Crane Valley Golf Club

The Valley Course is the star attraction at Crane Valley, a stunning par 72 layout devised by Donald Steel in 1992, the architect responsible for some of the modern era's best new courses.

The charming Dorset countryside sets the stage for Steel's lovely course, which is a good test for players of all abilities. 6,424 yards is relatively short for a modern parkland course, but this ensures that Crane Valley is both manageable and enjoyable for everyone.

Crane Valley also sports an entertaining little nine-hole course, the Woodland, which is perfect for beginners. This Dorset hidden gem is an interesting new addition to the golfing scene around Bournemouth, and is a great choice for a stop on a Bournemouth golf tour.

Crane Valley is a great value option during a Bournemouth golf tour. Whilst on the shorter side, it features plenty of water to provide a challenge. Without doubt good course management is needed to avoid good shots becoming wet ones.

The two notable holes for me were the Par 4 10th, with water all up the right hand side approach and bunkers protecting the green. The 6th was also a fun one. Whilst the first par 3 on the course might seem easy in terms of distance, the slopes either side of the green make it Bournemouth’s answer to Troon’s postage stamp – aim to the right to avoid the stream on the left hand side.
