Dundonald Links is located at the very heart of Ayrshire’s golf coast, effortlessly combining heritage & tradition with contemporary surroundings as well as luxurious finishing touches.
Following the £25m development, this Scottish Gem is fast becoming one of the most sought-after golf resorts in Scotland. Designed by Kyle Phillips, Dundonald Links has already hosted numerous tournaments most recently the Freed Group Women’s Scottish Open in 2023 and The Open Final Qualifying in 2023 and will continue to stage this event until 2026. In the past Dundonald Links has also been home to the Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open, the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open and the Trust Golf Women's Scottish Open.
Like many of his other projects, think The Grove, Yas Links and the aforementioned Kingsbarns, Phillips’ Dundonald Links has been quickly recognised by many as one of the best “new builds” in world golf and since its unveiling in 2005, it’s only matured, getting even better along the way, recognition of which came with the fact that this marvellous course hosted the Scottish Open in 2017.

Phillips' mandate was to create a championship links course that would reflect the traditional character of seaside golf on Scotland's west coast; but one that would also benefit from the newest construction techniques.
The new links has already matured well, and is attracting plaudits from far and wide with many calling it one of the best in Ayrshire. A welcome addition to the already impressive repertoire on the west coast – Royal Troon is just 10 minutes down the road – Dundonald Links is a majestic links that thoroughly deserves its place inside the UK's top 100. Dundonald’s most recent coup came with hosting the 2017 Scottish Open which was won by Spain's Rafael Cabrera-Bello.
The Dundonald experience begins at the main gates where, like Loch Lomond, you’re greeted by security who in all likelihood know exactly who are. This treatment continues throughout and the “member for a day” experience certainly makes everything more enjoyable.
The course itself lies between the impressive trio of Kilmarnock Barassie, Glasgow Gailes and Western Gailes so it is clear that Dundonald lies on hallowed golfing turf and while in its formative years, drainage was a problem during the wetter months, no such problems exist today. This is pure, firm and fast links golf in its finest form.
The total yardage can range from 5,560 yards from the Reds to a challenging 7,100 yards from the Blacks. One thinks the course might be stretched further when the Scottish Open comes to town but nonetheless it can offer an enjoyable and testing challenge to a great array of golfers.
Signature Hole – No. 12: Par 4, 350 yards (Black Tees)
While some would suggest the par 3 11th at Dundonald is the course’s signature hole due its resemblance to the famous Postage Stamp at Royal Troon, it’s not quite the real deal. The short par 4 12th though, is a cracker.
Most players won’t need much more than a long iron for their drive here as placement, rather than power, is paramount due to the hog’s back fairway which will dispel all but the truest of tee shots. The fairway is at a subtle angle to the tee and once safely in play, the approach is played to a well guarded green that may seem closer than it really is due to some dramatic runoffs in front of the green.
With the Firth of Clyde and the distant Isle of Arran acting as the backdrop to this strategic and tricky little hole, this is an amazing spot on the course.

Could not fault the accommodation or the course both to a very high standard We arrived to check into the lodge after playing our first round of golf and asked to book into the restaurant earliest time 20.15 which wasn’t a problem, to then be told 40min later that the chef had said they were to busy so cancelled our booking ! Not happy but we managed to find something in a nearby town. The next morning we tried to book into for that night only to be told they were fully booked ! Staying on a golf complex you would expect to be able to eat in the restaurant being residents! Had we known that bookings were restricted in numbers prior to going we would have made advanced bookings! We played the Dundonald links course twice whilst there the first time was bitterly cold and was told the half way house was open for warm drinks and snacks only to get there and find out it was closed this was at 14.20 which in isn’t late! We played it again the next day and yet again after being told it was definitely open in the Pro Shop when we arrived it was closed! Like I said the coarse and accommodation really good but let down by food side

Everything was brilliant throughout the weekend, however we got informed when we arrived that the booking was for Mon, Tues, and Wed instead of our actual dates. We therefore had a delay as they had to move rooms around and 2 people had to move rooms after the first night. Dundonald were great with the situation but flagging the issue we encounted.

The on site accommodation had no way of ventilating the room short of leaving the patio doors open all night. This made it quite uncomfortable. Unusual to find a room with such design limitations.

Great new style links. Perhaps a solution needed about the crows. Our group lost 6/8 good drives to crows swooping off with the balls. Funny once or twice but ….

Hard because of rain and wind but course in good condition despite 2 days of heavy rain. The course is great but not memorable, each tee is the same, low level but the course with the stadium design gives some challenging tee shots to shape if you are going for distance. Mac cheese pay at the Bothy was great
