Founded in 1890, Goswick Links is a superb seaside test on the Northumberland coast, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty that sits halfway between Newcastle and Edinburgh, just south of the historic market town of Berwick-Upon-Tweed and the England/Scotland border. The views alone are worth the trip: North Sea stretching to the horizon, Holy Island rising from the water and the unmistakable silhouette of Bamburgh Castle commanding the coastline.
This James Braid masterpiece is one of just 15 courses selected by the R&A to host regional qualifying for The Open Championship, a mark of serious pedigree. Golf World ranks it among the top 100 links courses in Great Britain & Ireland, while National Club Golfer places it in the top 50 courses of any kind in England. Fair to say, it's not just hype, it's a course with serious credentials and the conditioning to back it up. The pure fescue fairways deliver the kind of lively bounce you expect from authentic links turf, and the greens roll fast and true throughout the year, no matter the season.
If you're building a Northumberland or Borders itinerary, it's an easy stop on the main route north and a great 'links fix' without the fuss. Expect it to play differently day to day depending on the breeze, so it rewards creativity more than raw power. Pack layers, you'll thank yourself on the back nine.
If you're travelling between England and Scotland, or planning a dedicated North East golf trip, Goswick is an absolute must-play. It's the sort of course that reminds you why links golf exists: wind, firm ground, strategic angles and a landscape that feels largely untouched by modern development. You'll leave having hit shots you simply don't play inland, flighted irons, chased-up approaches and the odd putt from well off the green. If Goswick's on your radar, it's well worth including on your next UK golf break, especially if you're heading up to Scotland on a road trip.

The coastal location of Goswick ensures that it very rarely succumbs to adverse weather conditions, with good tees and greens year round. Arguably Northumberland's premier links course, the James Braid design traverses the humps, bumps and hollows of the Berwick shore, and is a truly pleasurable golfing experience.
Set foot on the first tee at Goswick and you’ll have taken the first step on a journey where you can lose yourself amid a vast natural canvas of tumbling fairways, rippled greens, natural bunkers, sweeping shorelines and panoramic views. This par 72 layout stretches from 5,709 yards from the forward tees to 6,803 from the tips. But a round on this championship track is far more qualitative than quantitative. It really must be experienced to be fully appreciated.
The award of the Open Championship regional qualifier will only serve to enhance the course's already excellent reputation, so why not experience Goswick yourself with a golf tour in the North East?
