- 1 Round at Heritage Golf Course
1 Night, 2 Rounds
Designed by Seve Ballesteros and Jeff Howes, The Heritage is very much a modern resort test rather than a traditional Irish links, and that's no bad thing if you're after a fair challenge on pristine turf. You get room off the tee in places, but it's not a free-for-all. The interest is in the angles, the hazard placement and those approaches where the green looks welcoming until you're stood over the shot.
If you like plotting your way round, you'll enjoy this. Play from the right side of the fairway and the next shot opens up. Miss it slightly and you're suddenly shaping something in, or trying to hold a green edge you weren't expecting. The greens are a proper part of the defence too, so leaving yourself the right level matters.
It's also a great shout for mixed groups. You still get a championship feel, but without the full links punishment when the weather turns. In other words, you can have a serious game and still have a laugh doing it. The conditioning is what you'd expect from a top-class resort course, and the layout rewards thoughtful course management rather than pure length or intimidation.
Who is this for?
Golfers or groups seeking a high-end Irish golf break that pairs championship-standard golf with luxury resort facilities, fine dining and spa amenities. Ideal for couples, societies and mixed-ability groups who want quality golf without the severity of links conditions, plus access to top-class leisure and dining options.
Who is it best for?
Mid-to-low handicappers who enjoy strategic, well-conditioned parkland golf, and groups or couples looking for a complete resort experience where non-golfers can enjoy spa treatments, dining and leisure facilities while golfers play.

It may be relatively young, but the course has already been recognised as one of the best recent additions in the UK and Ireland, and visitors have already included John Daly and Vijay Singh. The layout can be stretched to over 7,300 yards from the back tees, but there are options to suit all standards of golfer.
Set against the backdrop of the stunning Slieve Bloom Mountains, there are five lakes and a meandering stream, that serve to challenge visiting golfers on no fewer than 10 of the holes. The gently undulating track has been fitted with close to 100 challenging bunkers, and 7,000 mature trees, which have helped to instantly establish the Heritage as one of Ireland's premier courses.
In addition to the golf course, the resort offers the ‘Natural Golf School', one of only three in the world to be inspired by Seve Ballesteros. The technology and tuition on offer are based on the golfing philosophy of the great Spaniard, so expect to develop your short game, if not your accuracy off the tee!
Multiple major winner Vijay Singh said that, "it was a pleasure to play the Heritage course. The greens were beautiful, and I think everybody is going to enjoy it."
Set in the village of Killenard, the five-star resort looks out over the championship course with the Slieve Bloom Mountains sitting nicely in the background. If you're bringing a group, it works well because everything is on site, so there's no messing about with taxis once you've checked in.
Rooms and suites are finished to a high standard, geared for golfers who want comfort and a good night's sleep after 18 (or 36), but it's equally suited to couples and families who'll spend more time in the spa and lounge areas. Expect modern fittings, proper bathrooms and the sort of quiet, switch-off feel you want on a short break. The quality is matched across the board, from the room furnishings to the leisure facilities, and when viewed as a complete package, there are few better destinations for a golf break in Ireland.
The Spa is a major part of the appeal, with 70+ treatments across 20 purpose-built rooms in partnership with Pevonia Botanica, a premium botanical wellness brand. If you've got non-golfers in the party, this is the bit that keeps everyone happy while you're chasing your handicap. There's also a health and fitness centre overlooking the course, plus a 15-metre pool and Jacuzzi, so you can loosen up after your round. The latest fitness equipment is on hand if you want to keep up your routine while away.
You won't be stuck for food options either. The Arlington Restaurant offers fine dining with a focus on quality ingredients and presentation, while Sol Oriens serves excellent steaks and Mediterranean-inspired dishes in a more relaxed setting. And when the day's done, the Slieve Bloom lounge is the obvious spot for a quiet drink by the fire, whether you're debriefing the round or pretending you didn't just miss a three-footer.
I'll admit it's a strong pick for shoulder-season trips when you want reliable conditioning and plenty to do off the course. The combination of championship golf, luxury accommodation and top-tier leisure facilities makes The Heritage one of the standout all-round destinations for a golf break in Ireland, whether you're travelling as a dedicated golf group or with non-golfing partners and family.

we had a pre-paid dinner and the reception had a problem tracking the payment. Not so good communication about the birthday cake as well. It was supposed to be a surprise for my husband, but it didn't work out. The staff was very unprofessional but otherwise everything was fine. If we paid everything at the hotel, it would probably be easier :-).

The facilities are very impressive and the staff in the pro shop were very welcoming. The members were also welcoming and we spoke to several before our round who were happy to give us some hints and tips - as well as welcoming us to play the course. The course itself is long - but fair. We all agreed it was a fair test and was scorable of playing well - while punishing you if you didn’t. Thankfully we didn’t lose as many balls in the various and numerous water hazards as we suspected we might. Will definitely return to play this course again.

Managed to get out even in bad weather and course stood up to the heavy rain. Would love to play it again. Need to golf your way around vs just smashing driver! Great overall test.

Couldn’t complain about the condition of the course but think it’s far too tough and long off the normal tees, some of the par 4s were unreachable in two after a solid drive. Wouldn’t recommend it to anyone above single digit handicap.

We played this wonderful course on a quiet Wednesday. No hold up and round in buggies in 3.5 hours. Great fun and a good test of golf

First time to play this course and loved it. It was challenging but fair. We had two members who scored 37 points and I was delighted to score 36 playing of 17 so it's doo able. It is a long trek 18,000 steps so if you are not fit you may need to book a buggy. Even more enjoyable to play on the second day when you knew where you were going. Some wonderful par fives
