Plenty of courses in North Wales have the views. What sets Maesdu apart is that the golf more than lives up to them. Yes, the scenery is extraordinary. Standing on the 15th tee as the whole arc of Conwy Bay opens up before you, Snowdonia rising in the distance and the Great Orme standing guard to the west, it is difficult not to stop and take it in. But Maesdu is not a course that leans on its surroundings. The golf is the thing.
Founded in 1915 when Llandudno Town Council purchased the ground formerly known as the Maesdu Estate, the club brought in five-time Open Champion James Braid to advise on the layout. Braid shaped what would become an 18-hole championship course measuring 6,448 yards from the Gold tees, carrying a slope rating of 132. It is a layout with serious credentials, having hosted the Ladies Golf Union Seniors' Home Internationals, the Welsh Open Youths Championship and, in 1938, the very first Professional Home International Series between England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
The course sits on gently undulating ground between the Victorian resort of Llandudno and the walled town of Conwy, and the character shifts noticeably as you move through the round. The opening holes have a parkland feel, soft underfoot with tree-lined corridors and a sense of shelter. Then the layout opens up, the turf firms, the wind arrives from the bay and the greens acquire a speed and severity that demands real commitment with the putter. It gives you two different tests in one round, which is a big part of Maesdu's appeal.
Maesdu Golf Club is the kind of course that stays with you. It has the history, the design credentials, the scenery and the challenge to stand alongside the best in North Wales, and it does all of it without pretension. The James Braid connection gives the club genuine architectural pedigree, the shift from parkland to links keeps the round interesting from start to finish and the views across Conwy Bay are a constant reminder of exactly where you are.
If you are planning a North Wales golf break, Maesdu is an easy course to recommend. It gives you history, variety and standout views, all in a location that works brilliantly for a multi-course trip.
Who is this for?
Golfers building a North Wales golf break who want a course with genuine history, proper challenge and scenery that earns its reputation rather than relying on it.
Who is it best for?
Mid-handicappers who enjoy a course that rewards course management and precise iron play, and anyone who appreciates a club with deep roots in British golf history. The variety of tee options makes it accessible to a wider range of abilities, but from the back it will keep even low handicappers honest.

Maesdu is a course of natural beauty and thoughtful design, where every hole presents a new challenge. Known for its impeccable, fast-running fairways and greens that demand precision, the course will test your shot-making abilities and course management. As you make your way around the stunning layout, you'll be treated to a constant stream of magnificent scenery. The course provides panoramic views of the curving Conwy Bay, the imposing Great Orme Head, and the dramatic, sweeping mountains of Snowdonia National Park.
The severe slopes on the greens make putting crucial to success on the scoring front, but even if your touch deserts you, Maesdu is sure to provide an extremely pleasurable round as part of a golf tour around Llandudno.

The experience at Maesdu extends far beyond the course itself. The traditional and welcoming clubhouse offers a place to relax and reflect on your round. Step inside to find superb facilities and the James Braid Restaurant, where you can enjoy a delicious meal while recounting your best shots from the day.
For visiting groups, the clubhouse works well. There is plenty of space to relax after the round, the atmosphere is welcoming rather than stuffy and the views keep the experience feeling special long after the final putt. It is the kind of place that rounds off a good day of golf in exactly the right way, without any of the formality that can make visiting golfers feel like an afterthought.

Excellent course, unfortunately greens had been treated just before our round so they were not a true reflection. All of our party enjoyed the views & the course.
