Quay Hotel

If you want a North Wales golf base with a bit more polish, The Quay Hotel & Spa is a strong pick. Set right on Deganwy Marina, it offers one of the best post-round views in the region, with Conwy Castle sitting across the water and a solid mix of courses within easy driving distance. This is a four-star waterfront hotel that earns its place on a golf itinerary not just because of where it sits, but because of what it delivers once you are back from the course.

The hotel is compact and well-focused. Eighty bedrooms, a recently refurbished spa, a restaurant that takes Welsh produce seriously and a bar that works well as a 19th hole. Recent investment in the Hotel and Classic Estuary rooms has brought the accommodation up to the standard the setting deserves, and the newly relaunched spa adds genuine recovery value for anyone playing multiple rounds across a few days.

For golfers, the location is a real plus. Conwy Golf Club is practically on the doorstep while courses including Nefyn and Porthmadog are all within a reasonable drive, giving you a strong mix of coastal and inland layouts to build a two or three-night itinerary around. You can play different styles of course each day without constantly repacking, which is exactly what a good touring base should offer.

Who is this for?
Golfers who want more than a bed for the night. If your group cares about a good dinner, a proper spa and somewhere decent to sit with a drink after 18 holes, this ticks the right boxes.

Who is it best for?
Couples and small groups looking to combine quality North Wales golf with a waterfront stay that adds something to the trip. It also works well for society organisers who want a venue that handles the non-golf side of things properly, so the group can focus on the golf.

Accommodation at Quay Hotel

With 80 bedrooms spread across several categories, there is a practical range here for different group sizes and budgets. The recent refurbishment of the Hotel and Classic Estuary rooms has made a real difference, and the finish throughout is smart and comfortable rather than trying too hard. Soft coastal blues and neutral tones run through the colour palette, which suits the marina setting well without feeling like a theme.

All rooms include Egyptian cotton sheets, H²K toiletries and en-suite bathrooms as standard, along with complimentary Wi-Fi and 24-hour room service. Tea and coffee facilities are in every room, and the TV and workspace setup is solid enough for anyone who needs to check in with the office before heading out for a morning round.

The entry-level Cosy Cove rooms look out over the hotel's courtyard and are a good option for shorter stays where you are mostly out on the course. They are well-sized, comfortable and do the job without any fuss. Step up to a Classic Estuary room and the view changes things considerably. Bay windows frame the Conwy Estuary directly, and the extra cost is worth it if you are staying two nights or more. Waking up to that view before a day's golf is a decent way to start.

Executive rooms add a private balcony or terrace, which makes them a strong choice for couples or anyone who wants to sit outside with a drink at the end of the day. For golf groups, these also work well as a slightly more comfortable base when you are spending a few days in the area and want the room to feel like more than just somewhere to sleep.

For golf groups specifically, the room mix is helpful. Standard rooms work well for a quick two-night trip, while the suites are better suited to anyone wanting extra space after a full day on the course. The hotel has on-site parking, which makes arrival straightforward when you are travelling with clubs and luggage. If the budget allows, the estuary-facing categories are the ones to go for. The view is a big part of what makes this hotel stand out, and it is worth paying for.

Food & Drink

Although the hotel offers easy access to the charming town of Conwy, there is no need to leave the comfort of the hotel when in search of an evening meal.

The Ebb and Flow Restaurant is a proper dining room, and the kitchen earns its reputation. The setting, looking directly across to Conwy Castle, would be enough for some places to rely on. Here, the food matches it. Menus are built around Welsh produce with genuine intent, and the River Conwy's famous mussels appear regularly alongside mackerel, locally sourced meats and seasonal ingredients that reflect what is actually available rather than what is convenient. The cooking is contemporary Welsh, done with confidence, and the room feels special without being stiff. It is the kind of dinner that rounds off a day's golf properly.

The Cove Bar runs at a different pace. Warm lighting, relaxed surroundings and a good selection of Welsh gins and local ales make it the natural place to wind down after a round. There is an informal food menu if you want something lighter, and in summer the terrace opens up so you can take your drink outside. It is a very good spot for a post-round drink, especially when the terrace is open and the light starts to drop over the estuary. The kind of 19th hole that makes you glad you booked an extra night.

Leisure Facilities

The spa at The Quay has recently been refurbished, and the result is a facility that adds real value to a golf trip rather than just ticking a box. For anyone playing two or three rounds across a short break, the thermal suite is worth building time around.

The experience starts in the Himalayan salt-infused wellness room, where the warm mineral-rich air settles you down quickly after a day on the course. Foot baths follow, which are more useful than they sound after 18 holes on a hilly North Wales layout. From there, the infrared sauna offers steady radiant heat that is ideal for easing tired legs and backs, and the traditional sauna and steam room complete the circuit. By the end of it, the body feels noticeably better and the mind tends to follow.

Treatments use OSKIA products, a British brand focused on skin health rather than surface results, and the therapists work to what you actually need rather than running through a fixed routine. There is also a dedicated space for spa guests to eat after their treatment, which helps turn a session into a proper half-day rather than a quick hour in a robe.

Beyond the thermal suite, the spa includes a gym, hydrotherapy pool, rainshower and fitness classes, with club membership available for those who want regular access. For a golf group, it is worth flagging to everyone before the trip, because once one person tries the thermal suite after a round, the rest will wish they had booked in too.
