The Old Course at Nefyn is one of the UK's best kept secrets. Set on a tiny promontory jutting from the Llŷn Peninsula into the Irish Sea, it's the definition of golf on the edge of the world.
The routing is as clean as it gets. You head out along the headland, turn at the tip and work your way back, with the sea in view for much of the round. When the wind gets up (and it often does), you can feel like you're playing a different course every few holes, so a bit of imagination and proper links know-how goes a long way.
Expect firm, fast turf, some tight driving corridors and plenty of moments where you're picking a line more than a target. It's not polished or showy either and that's part of the charm. This is proper Welsh coastal golf: big scenery, honest shot-making and a few "did that really just happen?" swings when the gusts arrive.
The standout section is the Point, where holes cling to the clifftop and the views do most of the talking. One of the late par threes, played to a green perched above the rocks, is the postcard moment. Just make sure you've got your camera handy, then keep your ball below the wind.
If you're building a North Wales run, Nefyn pairs brilliantly with nearby options around Abersoch and Porthmadog. Include Nefyn on your next UK Golf Break and you'll come away with stories, not just a scorecard.
Who is this for?
Golfers who want a genuine links experience in a dramatic coastal setting, away from the crowds and the big-name courses. It's ideal for those who value character and scenery over modern facilities and don't mind a bit of rough around the edges in exchange for something truly memorable.
Who is it best for?
Mid to low handicappers who can handle firm, fast conditions and enjoy strategic shot-making in the wind. It's also perfect for anyone ticking off hidden gems or building a North Wales golf tour around Abersoch, Porthmadog and the surrounding area.

Similarly to Old Head at Kinsale, Nefyn offers amazing sea views on three sides from the promontory, and keeping your eyes on the course in front of you can be the biggest challenge. Originally a nine hole course, Nefyn was extended by the revered duo of James Braid and J.H. Taylor, and now boasts 27 holes. Unusually, Nefyn has a standard outward ten holes, and two different inward sets of 8 holes, which adds much to the experience.
Heather, blind drives and devilish bunkers are among the hazards that await the hardy Nefyn golfer, who on a clear day may be able to spot the peaks of the Wicklow Mountains across the Irish Sea. There are few more amazing places to enjoy links golf in the UK, so make Nefyn Old Course a priority on your next golf tour in Nefyn and Harlech.

Nefyn is an absolute jewel of a course. From the very beginning of dealing with pro-shop staff, the couse itself & the bar afterwards. The staff in the shop went above & beyond to help us enjoy our time there. The course was in immaculate condition. From the tee boxes, the fairways to the greens. The signage telling you where the next tee box were, was clear & easy to follow. We played the full 27 holes in very windy conditions. It was a challenge to say the least. But the three of us in our group all had a great game. We all lost balls to the course & the irish sea. But we all said we woukd come back in a heartbeat. We couldn't reccomend Nefyn Golf Club highly enough. Infact we are looking to going back next month.

Brilliant staff across both the pro shop and the clubhouse facilities. Course is in immaculate condition. The point holes are certain worth playing, as you will find out yourselves. The holes or the point are difficult, yet majestic.
