Golf Courses at Oulton Hall Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort

Calverly Course

As you would expect, Thomas's layout takes in the natural undulations of the land, but he has used the inherent features of the landscape to create hazards. The greens are very subtle, a feature of the designer's ability to create a good challenge, whilst retaining the course's playability for golfers of all standards.

Dave Thomas has created many great parkland courses in the UK with The Belfry's Brabazon Course being the most notable one. Expect plenty of undulations and an emphasis on course management to play to your handicap on The Calverly Course at Oulton Hall.

Hall Course

Adding to Oulton's golfing repertoire is the 9-hole Hall course, which may not be long, but it will be an enjoyable experience for all those who visit on a golf break.

The investment programme has encompassed the clubhouse, which is now a superb two-storey facility with a restaurant and excellent corporate banqueting capabilities.

Popular with beginners and experienced golfers alike, this is well-recommended as a warm up or extension of your round at Oulton Hall.

Accommodation at Oulton Hall Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort

Oulton Hall is the only 5* golf resort in the north of England, and is currently benefitting from a £7.5 million investment programme. This will only serve to confirm the quality on offer at Oulton Hall, whose Grade II listed mansion is a truly stunning construction.

It has been sympathetically converted to boast 152 guest rooms, including 12 deluxe, and 7 suites. The building itself may be traditional, but the fittings and furnishings of the bedrooms are contemporary, ensuring that visitors receive the best of both worlds.

The surrounding gardens are expertly trimmed and manicured, testament to the attention to detail that allows Oulton Hall to stand apart as a destination for a golf break in the north.

Food & Drink

The elegant Calverley Grill has been recognised with an AA Rosette offering fine Yorkshire dining from the finest and freshest local ingredients.

The Claret Jug offers a relaxed atmosphere after a round of golf to enjoy players that are teeing off and finishing their rounds.

Leisure Facilities

The newly refurbished leisure complex features a sublime swimming pool, a steam room, sauna, gymnasium and aerobics studio. For something a little more sedate, there are a number of health and beauty treatments on offer.

Lovely hotel and the staff were great with top customer service in both the bar and restaurant. Lovely evening meal which all our party of 12 really enjoyed with lots of choice on the set menu for dinner. This was supplemented by a quality breakfast in the morning.

Hotel was clean, modern and comfortable. Food in the restaurant in the evening was good although a few of our group didn’t enjoy their steak and said it was frozen so not cooked as required. Breakfast was very good.

Angus The hotel and service throughout were fabulous. Staff could not be more helpful however the food could be improved with a little more attention especially the breakfast service area. The golf course was poor in relation to other golf clubs we saw or played in the area. We would stay at the hotel again but we would not recommend the golf course which was unkept. The tees were in a poor condition and there was a clear lack of definition between the fairways and the rough. As for the bunkers they had not been raked at all and we only noticed a few racks throughout the course for the golfers to use. Fr opinion golfers who play at there own club and who are not occasional golfers we feel would also not recommend this course. Whereas the Sandmoor Course was 5 star rating and a pleasure to play. We even spoke to the club secretary asking him to pass on our appreciation for such an excellently presented course. We would recommend Sandmoor to all our members at our club. The only other feed back would be to say the cost of the buggies at Oulton Hall was excessive at £44.50 whereas the buggies at Sandmoor were £30. For retired golfers this is a significant increase which in future we will establish before we book anymore trips away. As for the service of Golf Travel we are delighted with the arrangement and communication throughout We have settled our bills with Oulton Hall but we must say we feel short changed due to the poor standard of golf course which we were looking so much to play Thankyou for the opportunity to provide you with a review. We would ask you pass on our comments to the hotel and hope they address the standard of the golf course Kind regards Philip Enstone

Order buggies for the Sunday , Due to the wind conditions on the Sunday, weather No buggies in use. On the Monday evening someone on a motorcycle/ electric scooter had ridden over the 18th green on the Cavaliery course, number of times, the green staff out fixing the hole. It spoil the end of the round with all the sand on it. I would recommend Oulton Hall and the golf course. The food was ok, we had a set price £32 for evening meal, anything over you would pay the difference . The venue was full of golf parties. I would have been nice to have a drinks discount of 20% + the same other golf venues. My friends and I made a comment that the golf bar opposite the pro shop is only opened at the weekends. So to get a drink you have to go to the main hotel bar. Instead of sitting in the golf bar , having a drink watching other golfers come in.

The course was well presented, but probably due to the wet winter the greens were not at their best. There were quite a few bare patches on the fairways which again was evidence of the wet winter. An interesting layout on Holes 1 to 18 and the course was very playable for our range of handicaps in our party. Would be nice to play later in the year when the trees are in full leaf.

Greens were extremely sandy and bobbly. Possibly due to time of the year. Some very wet and muddy areas probably due to rain but drainage needs work in some areas. One disappointing thing with the club house was that after playing a round, there were 7 of us who wanted some food and a beer at the clubhouse but there was no food available….

Again bunkers and tee boxes in poor condition.A few blind holes with no hole layout on tee box.Looks like they find it easier to put bunkers as gur than do work on them.Overall very disappointed with course conditions.

The Sunday we tee up in the 1st at 14.20pm and ended our round on the 16th at 19.30pm. 5 hours and 10min. We ended our golf match on 16 hole due to having dinner at 19.00pm. Also it was getting dark. That’s the longest time I have been on a golf course playing in a 2 ball. I could have travelled to East Midlands Airport, flown to Tenerife and still had time to spare!!!

Lovely course. We had bad rain which spoilt it a little but very nice course. Quite a few of the tee boxes were quite worn but are surrounded by large trees so get very little sunlight. Around a very nice course.
