As you would expect, Thomas's layout takes in the natural undulations of the land, but he has used the inherent features of the landscape to create hazards. The greens are very subtle, a feature of the designer's ability to create a good challenge, whilst retaining the course's playability for golfers of all standards.
Dave Thomas has created many great parkland courses in the UK with The Belfry's Brabazon Course being the most notable one. Expect plenty of undulations and an emphasis on course management to play to your handicap on The Calverly Course at Oulton Hall.

Adding to Oulton's golfing repertoire is the 9-hole Hall course, which may not be long, but it will be an enjoyable experience for all those who visit on a golf break.
The investment programme has encompassed the clubhouse, which is now a superb two-storey facility with a restaurant and excellent corporate banqueting capabilities.
Popular with beginners and experienced golfers alike, this is well-recommended as a warm up or extension of your round at Oulton Hall.
Oulton Hall is the only 5* golf resort in the north of England, and is currently benefitting from a £7.5 million investment programme. This will only serve to confirm the quality on offer at Oulton Hall, whose Grade II listed mansion is a truly stunning construction.
It has been sympathetically converted to boast 152 guest rooms, including 12 deluxe, and 7 suites. The building itself may be traditional, but the fittings and furnishings of the bedrooms are contemporary, ensuring that visitors receive the best of both worlds.
The surrounding gardens are expertly trimmed and manicured, testament to the attention to detail that allows Oulton Hall to stand apart as a destination for a golf break in the north.
The excellent Brontë Restaurant has been recognised with an AA Rosette, and serves superb French and English cuisine.
The Blayds Restaurant offers diners something a little more informal throughout the day.
The newly refurbished leisure complex features a sublime swimming pool, a steam room, sauna, gymnasium and aerobics studio. For something a little more sedate, there are a number of health and beauty treatments on offer.

Angus The hotel and service throughout were fabulous. Staff could not be more helpful however the food could be improved with a little more attention especially the breakfast service area. The golf course was poor in relation to other golf clubs we saw or played in the area. We would stay at the hotel again but we would not recommend the golf course which was unkept. The tees were in a poor condition and there was a clear lack of definition between the fairways and the rough. As for the bunkers they had not been raked at all and we only noticed a few racks throughout the course for the golfers to use. Fr opinion golfers who play at there own club and who are not occasional golfers we feel would also not recommend this course. Whereas the Sandmoor Course was 5 star rating and a pleasure to play. We even spoke to the club secretary asking him to pass on our appreciation for such an excellently presented course. We would recommend Sandmoor to all our members at our club. The only other feed back would be to say the cost of the buggies at Oulton Hall was excessive at £44.50 whereas the buggies at Sandmoor were £30. For retired golfers this is a significant increase which in future we will establish before we book anymore trips away. As for the service of Golf Travel we are delighted with the arrangement and communication throughout We have settled our bills with Oulton Hall but we must say we feel short changed due to the poor standard of golf course which we were looking so much to play Thankyou for the opportunity to provide you with a review. We would ask you pass on our comments to the hotel and hope they address the standard of the golf course Kind regards Philip Enstone

Order buggies for the Sunday , Due to the wind conditions on the Sunday, weather No buggies in use. On the Monday evening someone on a motorcycle/ electric scooter had ridden over the 18th green on the Cavaliery course, number of times, the green staff out fixing the hole. It spoil the end of the round with all the sand on it. I would recommend Oulton Hall and the golf course. The food was ok, we had a set price £32 for evening meal, anything over you would pay the difference . The venue was full of golf parties. I would have been nice to have a drinks discount of 20% + the same other golf venues. My friends and I made a comment that the golf bar opposite the pro shop is only opened at the weekends. So to get a drink you have to go to the main hotel bar. Instead of sitting in the golf bar , having a drink watching other golfers come in.

I had a great stay at the hotel. The reception staff were very helpful and quickly answered any queries we had about parking etc. The room was functional and clean and value for money. The restaurant was great and the food very good. The champagne bar was good with a wide range of drinks which were slightly on the expensive side. The bar staff were very polite and helpful if not just a tad inexperienced. The venue is grand and sits in impressive grounds. We had a very enjoyable stay as a small party of 3 even when there were much larger groups and events occurring.

It's a beautiful hotel. Reception area very smart, fantastic lounges with very comfortable sofas and armchairs, the dining room was lovely and there was a really nice fragrance throughout the reception and lounge areas. However, once up in our room things change. Tbe room in general needed a redec, it looked very tired and appeared very dark. This was because the bottom half of the window was in a ridged non see through glass, which meant we could only see the top if a tree and very little sky. Upon climbing on a chair to see what view we had, I understood why. Down below our window was the extensive bin area. Nit a pretty site. We decided not to complain because you don't spend so much time in your room. However, our room also gad an adjoining room door to the next room. The guests tge other side were very loud getting ready to go down to dinner, but hey ho, we all like to gave fun but when that fun, laughter and noise extends to 12.30am and then again at 3.30 am, it becomes a nuisance. To top all this off, at 6am the bin area was a hive of activity, with bins being emptied, talking etc. Luckily the room guests were either gone the next morning or were a lot quieter. On our last morning, we went down to breakfast and on returning to our room, there was the mist disgusting stench of sewage in our room and once again, noise coming from the bin area. On climbing on the chair again, there was a lorry either emptying the septic tank or unblocking drains. I literally wanted felt sick. I loved everything about the hotel and would return but definitely not in any of the numerous rooms that look over this disgusting area. We often go away with other golfing couples and I would recommend Oulton to them but only if we were away from the rooms overlooking the bin area.

The hotel was perfect got our golf break but we encountered a couple of minor issues. On day 2 of our visit everyone was locked out of their rooms during a very short window between rounds; thus causing a little bit of disruption in preparing for the afternoon session. Additionally on our second night several of our rooms had no running cold water - this was fixed overnight.

We paid extra for a garden room and the room was on the third floor over the side of the hotel. The bathroom was tired. There was only hand soap in the bathroom, no shampoo or conditioner. It was a very basic hotel room experience but the rest of the hotel was nice. It was a good stop over from london to Scotland for one night but don’t go there to specifically play golf.

Oulton Hall was an excellent venue for a stay and play. The guest experience manager Ellie Charles was very informative couldn’t have been more pleasant. The lady behind the bar in the Claret Jug did let the team down a bit with her unpleasant attitude. The golf course was a lovely layout but understandably a bit boggy after all the rain fall there had been. Overall I would definitely recommend Oulton Hall.

The staff and venue were top notch with a lovely evening meal and good selection of beverages to choose from across a number of bars within the hotel and grounds. The staff were helpful and friendly and seemed rightly proud to be working for Oulton Hall The course itself was a victim of the recent and persistent weather which left it weeks behind were it should be and saturated fairways common place We only played the first round due to the conditions but a revisit will most likely be on the cards

The hotel was very good but we had an issue with out overnight package including the “ 3 course meal”. We were booked into the main restaurant so when got there we were told we had £28 spend each off the main menu. When I asked about the 3 course meal we were told that was only in the Claret Jug in the golf club bar. The cheapest meal in the main restaurant was above £28. I was then told to try the Claret Jug. We walked over but we’re told as we were a party of 2 we couldn’t have the deal. It was for parties of 4 or more. This was very frustrating and annoying. The staff were very nice but this didn’t help us feel like we shouldn’t be there. We were allowed to use our £28 on the bar menu so we managed a main meal within the price. Not very good service.
Simon
✓6 Jun 2023
The hotel is fantastic… what lets it down is the prices for a drink in the hotel £14 for a vodka and lemonade and £1.50 for a dash of blackcurrant is nothing short of extortion.
John
✓5 Jun 2023
On arrival at the hotel, our experience was not good. Two of our party of 28 did not have a room allocated, this was rectified without too much fuss. The clubhouse bar on arrival was chaotic, too many people, not enough staff, all they could offer to eat was a bacon sandwich. The Sunday evening meal was good and the service. Also good, unfortunately we were housed in the claret jug clubhouse and not the excellent setting of the hotel dining room. In summary, we would not wish to return to this venue.

✓22 May 2023
Hotel was good, food in Claret Jug bar was nice but limited in choice and portions sizes not good for hungry golfers. Buffet breakfast was ok. We were very disappointed that our group of 24 golfers were shuffled into any available room to get us out of the way so that the hotel staff could focus all of their efforts and attention on a group of several dozen ‘gay pride’ vintage car enthusiasts. We were not even allowed in the hotel Champagne Bar because these enthusiasts had it occupied. We are as important as they are. After being ousted from the breakfast room into a separate conference room for breakfast some members of staff thought they were not allowed to serve us? It was them who put us there!!! The bar service at the Claret Jug was very slow and for some reason we had to stand and wait for 10 minutes whilst they cashed the till up, in mid afternoon. The male members of bar staff were very rude however the females were very hard working and generally pleasant.
Paul
✓2 May 2023
Staff at the hotel service areas are very slow and not always there ready to serve, prices are ridiculously expensive I know hotels are a little more but £6 for a pint and £17 for a steak sandwich is insane. Did not get the opportunity to use any of the facilities at the hotel due to a cock up at the clubhouse and our tee off time. Our party was extremely disappointed

Great friendly welcome, and to be honest all the staff inside the hotel and on the course were very friendly. Upgraded to deluxe room but when we arrived several items, water, robes missing but soon sorted by reception. Loud music from function suite kept us awake on first evening. Tried to ring reception but no one answering the phone. Reported it as not working. Food option is £28 per person allowance. A sirloin steak was £28 so only one course free first evening. Bottle of still water was £3.95!! All Drinks highly priced better if you travel in a group and get the discounted rate. Perhaps all YGT customers should get the reduced pricing? Overall a great two night, three round break from my wife and I and will probably return in the future. Thank you to YGT for their help finding us a break at short notice.

The main bar and restaurant areas are very nice, as are the gardens. The evening meal was very disappointing. You get an allowance of £28 towards your meal, which will barely cover the main course. We asked for bread to go with the soup, and was presented with a slab of 12 slices on a plate. The side plates were roughly left on the table next to one of the party, and expected to pass round. Very poor service, and the food itself was poor given the high prices charged (£28 for a steak with chips charged extra). Rooms could do with updating - the light switches had the brass peeling off them for example. Spa and swimming pool areas are nice.

✓1 Sep 2021
The only good comment I can say about this venue was the course. The clubhouse pro’s disorganised, informing the group that their system had double booked our tee times. Also arranged on the first day for buggies for following day but when we checked in on our second day we were told they were not available?! Not told to pre book restaurant tables for group of eight? We then had to negotiate with the restaurant manager for us to eat in the hall? Service in the restaurant and bar was very slow? The only consolation was the spa, nice way to relax after a hard round of golf. We won’t be arranging another golf weekend at this location very disappointed.

✓29 Jul 2021
Lovely old building with very comfortable and good sized rooms. Very nice toiletries provided in the bathroom. The food was very good - the choice at breakfast was as good as it gets. We were on DBB rate and were given £28 each food allowance for dinner. This was fine as we only wanted two courses but would not have covered three. The only slightly disappointing thing was that the dinner menu was quite limited in choice. Overall a very enjoyable stay and I am sure we will be back.
Martin
✓21 Jul 2021
The overall experience in the dining room was chaotic due to young staff that had no guidance due to lack of managers on duty. On the first night we were booked in for a 9pm dinner. Our order was taken 45minutes later which in turn was not commissioned by the kitchen. We finished our meal at 11.30pm!!! Probably the worse thing that could have happened on a blistering hot weekend was the fact that there was no draught beer from Sunday with no delivery due until Wednesday. The hotel itself was beautiful inside and out but was totally let down by staff leadership.

The hotel is beautiful and has everything you need. Unfortunately it is badly understaffed with 1 girl serving at the bar (who was brilliant) meaning you had to queue for 20 mins+to get served.this was the same for breakfast with no real structure. Aware numerous staff had resigned leaving the hotel under pressure but why. A friends son getting married at Oulton next year - hope they sort out the problems they have. Our first visit to Oulton Hall but certainly not our last. The building was very impressive and the rooms excellent along with the food. The staff were first class and service brilliant. The Virus protection was very well organised with plenty of Sanitisers.

The hotel could do with a few things really. Or if the rooms had room service trays outside it for nearly a day, the cleaners for the rooms didn’t even take them away. For teas and coffees in the morning we had to use plastic cups which is obviously dangerous. Other than those 2 little things it was great

Lovely Hotel. Lounges, bar area and dining lovely rooms but they could have been slightly warmer. Maybe some of the entrance doors should have been closed as the first set of doors were automatic and the cool wind at the time was blowing right through the lower hotel areas. Probably okay in warmer weather. Dining menu very good and food excellant as were the staff. Rooms good with lovely beds.

The hotel was Brilliant, would have been even better had the clubhouse (Claret jug) been open. This would’ve given us a more relaxed environment to drink and eat in

We experienced many disappointments during our visit Having phoned ahead to arrange certain things (eg. Coffee & cobs on arrival) we found that this request had not been passed on. We were finally able to access these once we had made someone aware of the situation. However, these were extremely expensive. The clubhouse was not operating when we arrived or even on the Monday afternoon when we left. One or two staff were very helpful but, overall, we experienced a distinct lack of service. After not being able to access a drink at the clubhouse before departure, we adjourned to the hotel to experience an unacceptable wait for service. We left after half an hour without being served. The rooms were comfortable. The evening meal was acceptable if not fully catering for the dietary needs of our party. However, the restaurant staff were the most helpful staff that we encountered & they made good efforts to cater for us. Overall, I would have expected much better service & amenities from a venue that is set up to cater for society groups.

Rooms excellent large and airy very clean, staff very good, food first class, drinks a little pricey.Golf course mmmmm,a few of the tee boxes were a disgrace, greens could hav been better, bunkers, they were something else.... The course was fine holes 1 to 18 ,19 to 27 not so good .The staff at the clubhouse were very rude and miserable for the 2 days we were there ,the pro was a nice chap very helpful. The staff at the hotel were nice and the rooms were clean and comfortable, the food was very good in the hotel and the clubhouse it was just the staff in the clubhouse which got everyone's back up from the first moment we set foot in the place.

When we booked in we were told there was a £10 surcharge for eating in the hotel restaurant rather than in the club house for our evening meal. The staff told us this was a condition in the small print. However when I retrieved the email no mention of this could I find. Whereas eating in the clubhouse is fine for a group of men etc , we were a group of 4 mixed couples . We managed to get it rescindedbut thought you should know for future reference . We discussed this as a group and decided this condition might prevent us booking oulton hall again as a future venue. However we enjoyed it this time.

Hotel in parts is fantastic with good leisure facilities, but let down by tiredness of carpets, bathrooms new staff with limited training and poor restaurant service. No gin glasses available on 2 consecutive nights in bar - drinks were served in 2 half pint mugs !! With drinks costing over £10 each this is not acceptable for a hotel of this standing.

The Hotel facilities and rooms are top quality - but each time I have been (this was the third time) little things seem to go wrong. This time it was double bed configurations in our three twin rooms and our booking for 20:30 for dinner didn’t seem to have been auctioned. Both of these were on our booking confirmation and acknowledged by the reception staff as being booked.

Final day tee booked for 9am. Set off on time so would expect to arrive at the 10th hole around 11am. We did arrive at the 10th but the course had allowed a group of 12 to state on the 10th hole. These guys couldn’t apologise enough and agreed they should not have been allowed to start on the 10th if the club knew there were groups due to arrive on the 10th at that time. This spoilt the day and tarnished the weekend all because the course got greedy. Never again for me at that venue.

✓18 Aug 2025
The general view from our party of three was that with some more care and attention, the course could be very good. There are some challenging holes and the course seems quite long. Most of the tee boxes were in a poor state of repair and the bunkers seemed to have been ignored with lots of damage around the edges. Some bunkers were missing rakes. On our second round there was a lot of waiting on the tee due to slow play. We felt this could be remedied by stopping the starting on the 10th tee for some of the groups and also a possible increase in time between groups. I u destined the need to maximise profits but this had an impact on the enjoyment of our round. There was a Marshall who was on hand but I felt he became a little too visible during our round and this again reduced our enjoyment. I feel a little more attention payed to the course would go a long way. I believe if the course is in tip top condition then it would dissuade people from taking that short cut or not picking up divots which was witnessed by our group. The addition of no go areas for buggies clearly marked would prevent the ground being damaged. Lastly the cart paths between some holes are very rough and may damage some trollies.

Loved the course. The day before we played there was a deluge if rain butyou'd never kniw, the course had drained really well. The fairways were good and the greens were great and ran true. The tee boxes could probably do with a bit of work but overall an excellent course. We really enjoyed it. We saw one of the groundsmen and congratulated him on how well the course was playing. The clubhouse was also very nice and comfortable. We, along with 4 other couples often have one night breaks away playing golf and I would recommend Oulton.
Brian
✓11 Jul 2025
Some of the greens were scarred and some looked to have mosses etc. A few were decent. Too many people allowed on the course which made the rounds very slow. Poor etiquette due to the majority of these groups being visitors.
Brian
✓11 Jul 2025
The course was ok but the tee boxes were the worst I’ve ever seen. The starter explained this was due to it being a municipal course run by Leeds City Council and the club staff aren’t allowed to do work on the actual course conditions. The club were telling people that booked they’d have buggies but then there weren’t enough. We saw numerous arguments in the pro shop yet the club staff didn’t seem to care.

Day 1 was tediously slow as we were playing as a2 ball & they had us behind 2 societies totalling 14 4 balls. Came off after 12 holes & 3.75 hours They changed our time for day 2 which was much better & gave us a true chance to enjoy the course. Also gave us Q hotels vouchers as an apology which was a pleasant way to compensate for the shorter round on day 1

✓15 Apr 2025
The golf course was the worst I had ever played from a condition point of view. Played it back in 2018 and it has obviously been neglected over recent years. The tee boxes and fairways were scruffy and needed cutting. The greens were simply awful - barely any grass and bone dry. The bins around the course were over flowing. The hole which was cut on the 15th green looked like it has been dug by an animal. It was so disappointing that we gave up our tee time on the Monday (14th) and went and played another course in the area.

Staff were all amazingly helpful. We had booked buggies for our two rounds but due to the condition of the course these were not allowed. This proved a challenge for our party as we are a group of older golfers with several medical conditions. Electric trolleys were available. Greens were on the main in good condition, two appeared to have been vandalised by scramblers, with one not in play. On the whole course was in acceptable condition apart from tee boxes which were mainly mats but very muddy. Only a few of the mats had pegs to place your tees which was disappointing.
Paul
✓14 Nov 2024
The course is in poor condition, with many holes using temporary tees and mats already. Mostly all of the fairways are cordoned off, which made it difficult for following and finding balls, selecting clubs etc because trolleys are not allowed in the cordoned off area. Also, very little attempt by the club to remove leaves from the course. The leaves are just piled high off the fairways, so kiss your ball goodbye if it goes in the leaves. The clubhouse and bar were closed, so no coffee or bacon butty. And any drinks had to be taken in the main hotel, which is a pain and expensive. And very few staff present in the shop. On day two we teed off without being able to find a staff member.
Lucy
✓15 Oct 2024
Alot of areas sectioned off by rope due to recent bad weather which made the course even longer as we were pushing trollies, bunkers not raked and some bunkers didn't have a rake! Bit untidy. Greens are flat and easy to read and for time of year not bad condition. 27 holes in total 19-27 the most scenic and rememberable. Couple of blind holes.

Excellent golfing trip ,was a bit worried after seeing reviews, but went with an open mind as reviews differed at different times on the year! So,it was great ,played the calverley first 18 holes with a buggy ,greens had been treated (very green colour)but were nice and cut.tees were a bit worn ,but ok.not much signage between holes but followed another group so ok.need more bins as looks like some so called golfers like to hide beer bottles/old gloves, and chocolate wrappers in the trees! Fairways were cut so no problems there,a mix of sand in the bunkers but again ok. Overall 9/10 ,golf shop was a 10 ,really helpful and friendly, asked if we could play the 19 to 27 holes the following day they made this happen then 10 to 18 again ,we had the electric trolleys for second day,all were brand new ,fantastic, very good stocked shop and reasonably priced as well! Overall course was in the best condition its been for a while ,my group will be definitely be back at this time of year again, and great thumbs up to the pro shop.

Calverley course is excellent. Very challenging and some great looking holes. The course was not in A1 condition after a wet winter & spring meant they were behind schedule on course work. Again, we were off the front (blue) tees. We all thought that we would be happy to return and play the Calverley course when it was back to normal.
Nicholas
✓21 May 2024
May 2024. So course was recovering from a wet Winter and Spring. Course was nowhere near to being 'ready'. The fairways were like the first cut of rough. All the bunkers were GUR. We had to tee off on the forward (blue) tees which were often in front of the red tees. We all thought we should have been paying a reduced green fee or been given a credit for the bar. We all also agreed that, if we were to return to Oulton Hall for a Sunday Driver, we would insist on 2 rounds on the Calverley Course.

This course has suffered greatly from the wet weather over the last few months. It should have been closed as underfoot conditions were terrible. First five holes were closed but all eighteen should have been closed! Noticeable that the clubhouse was closed presumably because the members were not interested in playing on a course best described as a 'mud heap'. Although the pro shop was contacted a few days before our arrival nothing was said about the state of the course and we were led to believe golf trolleys could be used only to discover on arrival that it was carrying only!

Lovely course. Very friendly staff pro shop. Unnecessary on course Marshall hurrying us up when our two groups were more than one hole clear of any groups behind. The Marshall then appeared again on the 15th tee. Just sitting there watching.... For most amateur golfers that's off putting and so unnecessary. The rest of the staff and hotel was so welcoming and friendly. What is the point of starters and on course marshals when the vast majority of courses in the country seem to manage without them... Of note one of our group was 88 and another is having treatment for cancer... But don't worry we kept shouting at them to hurry up to ensure no-one was delayed. Rant over...

We played all 27 holes and were very happy with the individual holes as a test. Most of the bunkers were in a shocking state and totally unplayable. Obviously due to the previous weather they had had, this effected the course and the upkeep and after speaking to a few members they told us the course and in fact just reopened so we couldn’t really complain too much. Quite a long track from hole 27 to hole 1 (if playing duel course) The Clubhouse looked impressive but was unfortunately closed which just meant we ate and drank in the hotel

Course was good but a real lack of signage to guide you round an unfamiliar course. Some holes had no boards at all to indicate which hole it was and distance etc. From 21st to 22nd hole was an experience. Took us over5 minutes to find it !!

We thoroughly enjoyed the mixture of the three 9 hole courses and lovely tree lined Parkland Course. Quite a number of Bunkers had very little sand and needed attention but we did not find them too often fortunately.

Bunkers poor but otherwise great course would recommend

19th to 27th course, long walk between holes 21 and 22 nobody told us to follow the Blue line through car park, apart from that everything was fine. Thoroughly enjoyed the golf break, have recommended this to other people.

Played holes 10 to 27 both days- no option. Holes 10 to 18 far superior to 19 to 27 (previous 9 hole course). Buggy charge at £35 excessive and had problems with Buggy on Sunday. Will not be returning to Oulton Hall.

Tee boxes were in poor condition. There should have been more sand in the bunkers.

No Sand in the bunkers No Buggies available 2nd day as it was corporate day and we were placed on the Hall course and it was very slow play this was our third visit here and we will not be going again

Overall all 27holes were great to play, perhaps just lacking a few more carries to bring it up a level. Some interesting views from the tees and although a good walk from green to next tee sometimes still took under 4 hours. Several bunkers still GUR but in far better condition than July 2020. Very friendly starter on hole 1 who got things moving again after being held up on holes 19-27. Definitely worth a visit.

The fairways and greens were good, but the rough had been allowed to grow, making it a difficult shot out. The first round was slow because a party of 30 visitors teed off just ahead of us.

Great set-up of course 1st 18 holes but last 9 not so much by far the lesser 9, that bit extra TLC (sand in bunkers & fairways could’ve been mowed down as very long) but overall very enjoyable.

Some good, some bad about the course (3 lots of 9 holes). Generally a nice layout, with some interesting and challenging holes. It has obviously gone downhill in recent years as some of our party had played it several years ago and raved about it. The bunkers were absolutely shocking - worse than most municipals. Full of stones, virtually no sand, which looked like it had come off a builders yard. Many had a G.U.R sign placed in them, with lots of weeds in them so its obvious little has been done recently. Tee boxes also disappointing. Greens quite good, if fairly slow and flat. The deep rough is exactly that, so good luck if you end up in there, but a cut of the medium rough wouldn't go amiss either.

Three 9 hole courses so we were able to play half a different course on round 2. Overall the courses were in good condition / bit hilly in places. Only draw back a long walk from the 1st to the 10th or 19th.

We were late to tee off due to the groups in front of us holding us up, which then had a knock on effect and meant some of us felt very pressurised and came of the course after 9 holes due to people behind being intimidating.

Course ok. Fairways and rough quite long. Layout good with interesting holes pace of play quite slow with no etiquette to let through. Claret jug very nice and friendly/comfortable

There are 27 holes at Oulton and on booking we were told we'd get to play all of them over the 2 rounds, after the convenient location this was the main reason we chose Oulton in order to get some variety on the course. However we ended having to play the same 2 loops of 9 twice! (19-27 and 1-9 both times). On the 1st day we were sent to the wrong tee and had to walk ages to get to the right tee and ending up in a big queue to tee off. This was all a bit of a farce and didn't get us off in the right frame of mind. On the course the greens were in excellent condition which was in stark contrast to the shockingly long and fluffy fairways, poor tees and every single bunker was GUR! There were a lot of very friendly starters on the course but not many greenkeepers! This was all really disappointing for us and would put us off booking again.

Thought hire of trollies too expensive. Also it would have been nice to play holes 10 to 18 again on the 2nd day but we were told this was not possible even though we were happy to change our tee time

Saturday went to clubhouse to book in and get buggy. No buggy for any of 4 rounds of golf booked. after hip replacement can't walk the course. thank goodness you have Ellis there as he sorted me a buggy. After telling all about our previous stay and to look into it I can't now tell them not to come - they will have to find out for themselves. I have members of my club coming to you soon so I hope you can get your act together. Again its a good job you have Ellis and you keep him.Golf course no way up to standard as when we came 5 yrs ago

A great couple of rounds on an interesting course which was in good condition. Some of the tee beds were not as level as would be ideal but generally the course was very nice. There are 27 holes but we played 1 - 18 both days so I cannot comment on 19 - 27. The clubhouse was very impressive and the staff very welcoming. There is a lovely patio seating area overlooking the 18th green. Practice facilities are excellent - there is a driving range, a chipping area (accessed from the driving range) and a large putting green. Looking forward to a return visit as soon as is possible!

The fairways were fine with greens being on the slow side. The tee boxes needed cutting and tee positions had not been altered for several days. Several bunkers were gur due to damage by children from the surrounding houses during look down. The remaining bunkers contained no sand at all!!

Low ratings for greens as the course has struggled with the reduced greenkeepers from the covid situation. Holes are very nice but is just let down by the condition of the greens.

Unfortunately the bunkers were in poor condition following recent heavy rain and the greens were a bit patchy. All the holes were brilliantly laid out and each one surrounded with lovely woodland.

The greens where shocking and even the pro shop said that they were bad. Holes 19-27 where the worst. Took us about 10 minutes to find hole 22. One sign next to the 21st green but nothing after that

Our 4 ball enjoyed the 2 games we had although a little wet when we commenced the first day and the ground in places became quite sodden in places. My wife required a buggy each day and at the end of September the price was rather high at £35.00 each day. (average prices at golf clubs is usually around £25.00)The greens were not true when putting as tining and sanding had started on the greens. My wife spoke with the golf shop person in charge but to no avail because he said this was there rates at this time of the year but he would speak to somebody about this a ring my wife in a couple of days. That was 6 days ago. Weve heard nothing! As yet.

This course could be brilliant if the greens and Tees had more attention. The setting is great and the holes were a good challenge.

On the Sunday, we had to wait on the first tee due to congestion & misinformation about tee times with the society in front. Once on the course, the round flowed well. Having played the course 3 years ago I was extremely disappointed with the quality of the tees & especially the greens this time around. The greens had lots of infection on them but they had also been recently hollow tined. Apparently they do this in September every year. It would have been good to know this so that we could have adjusted the date of any proposed visit. This element had a distinctly demoralising effect on the members of our group who were looking forward to playing the course as I had described from my previous visit. As organiser I felt responsible for this disappointment. All 3 nines have interest in them but the enjoyment was totally undermined by the state of the greens. We understand that there have been problems due to Covid-19 but all courses have experienced this and yet have been able to produce greens of good quality. It’s fair to say that we won’t be coming back.

Sunday was slow because there were a lot of 4 balls playing but Monday was quieter and we went round fairly quickly. The course reflected the amount of use on it and there were 27 holes to play round. Some of the holes were fairly ordinary and a few were challenging and interesting. We would go again!

Tees in poor condition and non existant 1st cut rough - if your ball was a couple of feet off the fairway you were struggling to find it. Greens in good condition, but no semi rough meant that play was very slow with lots of waiting for players to find balls. Better course management required. Allow at least 4.5 hours for a round !

Sunday was a disgrace. Nearly 5 hours to play 12 holes .we had enough and walked off .we were told yourgolftravel messed tee off time up .my email clearly stated 2pm tee off .they said we were booked in for 12pm .and this caused problem. Really annoying I had my relatives from Australia with me .although when we started our round they said we were 2pm tee off. Only when I complained later in day did they say yourgolftravel was at fault. Very disappointing and no apology.

Played the championship course for two days, but mixed in the nine hole Hall Course with the first nine of the championship course on the Tuesday. The back nine of the championship course and the Hall Course are far superior than the 1st nine on the championship. Some tees are very, very poor and bunkers are full of stone.

✓29 May 2019
The course was in excellent condition. I didn't have a single bad lie on the fairway. the greens were true and well looked after. My only criticism would be of the bunkers, there was too many stones and not enough sand, but that didn't spoil two really enjoyable rounds with some testing holes, but some fair ones. I will return to play again.

✓21 May 2019
We went around holes 19 to 27 first and then onto 1 to 9. There was a noticeable difference between the quality of the main course and holes 19 to 27 and if you book suggest you keep to the main course.

Very helpful staff in the Pro shop and in the clubhouse bar. That said the course was lacking in available buggies and/or electric caddies. The greens weren’t in great condition in comparison to some other courses played and some of the tee areas were in poor condition, but that didn’t prevent us having two enjoyable rounds.

Greens a little uneven on our first day but thereafter no problem. Pro shop staff very pleasant and helpful with a good range of products available. Fairways lacked some distinction but it was late Sept early Oct so perhaps not surprising. Bunkers vary quite a lot and could be better but overall an enjoyable three days.
