Prince’s remains somewhat of a hidden gem but it is undoubtedly one of England’s finest courses, the newly refurbished Himalaya's 9 and short game area complete the golfing experience.
Found in Sandwich, nestled among the striking sand dunes of Kent’s east coast, Prince's is an excellent option for UK golfers looking to play some true championship golf. The Lodge at Prince's Golf Club provides top-quality accommodation for those staying nearby and is the hotel of choice for golfers taking on all three of the Open hosts at Sandwich Bay.

Prince's Golf Club is a rare golf links gem with three loops of nine holes. The Shore, Dunes and Himalayas courses provide a memorable golf trip experience that sits proudly within the Top 100 Golf Courses in England.
As a past host of not only The Open Championship but also of numerous key professional events and most recently as co-host of The Amateur Championship in 2017 and 2013, Prince's Golf Club is a course that can provide a mighty challenge for the very best golfers, whilst providing a playable test off the yellows for the many who visit for a golf break in Kent each year.
Henry Cotton and Gene Sarazen are not only among the game’s greatest names, but are also at the head of the lengthy line of Prince’s admirers; among the accolades these golfing legends bestowed were “the greatest links course” and “Britain’s finest course”.
The layout itself is a classic seaside course in character, reflecting the inherent features of the local terrain. The humps, bumps and hollows created by the Kent coastline’s myriad of sand dunes are heaven-sent for golf, and course architect Charles Hutchings (1902 Amateur Champion) took full advantage.
Prince’s, like its visiting golfers, is always at the mercy of the elements, and the character of the golf course can alter dramatically with the wind. Rugged and unpretentious, Prince’s is pure links golf, and is without doubt one of the country’s brightest gems.
Prince's Golf Club is ranked as one of the best courses in London and the South East
The Shore course is the longest of the three 9 hole loops and as the name suggests, it follows along the shoreline south towards the lodge which is located at the entrance of the course.

Bathroom was a little tired but otherwise what you need for an onsite accomodation. Other clientele at the venue were very drunk and disruptive but staff appreciated this and dealt with them as well as one would expect.

A little outdated in some areas, bedrooms for sure need sprucing up and the room I stayed in (Links Suite), although clean and comfortable, the hot water to the sink & shower took an age (if at all at the sink) to come through. I had it checked but advised as the room was at the end of the hot water flow, it would take time. That’s a hell if a lot of water wasted and the 5 nights I was there, there was no hot water at the sink (aside from wasting the water, the sink plug couldn’t hold the water in the sink). The shaver socket didn’t work either. So again a little refurb will go a long way. Staff were so friendly and supportive, the bar area is comfortable and the food very good, with a good selection on the menu to suit most needs. It’s pay as you go if booking through YGT as opening a tab is not permitted unless you book direct with Princes.

I would say we had a great experience as a group. However, service at the lodge was a lot poorer than expected. Despite having heard very good things, they were not the most accomodating. We had a table booked for 8.30 for dinner, and at before we even sat down and before some had even arrived at the restaurant we were made to 'hurry up and order'. We had to order before 8.30 as they said the kitchen would close. Despite on the phone 8.30 was totally fine, it was suddenly a problem on the day. When I explained that our table was 8.30 and we'll order as soon as we can, we got a response that was 'Yeah but we have some large groups so you need to hurry up'. we were all quite disappointed and felt like we were a nuisance rather than looked after.

Really enjoyable. Good choice of food. Lovely little bar. Comforting. Excellent staff. Only downfall was the bed, which felt like it needed replacing. It would also be nice to have drinking water in the room. The extra features in the room were also excellent, such as the golf bag caddy/storage, and it was incredibly spacious.

It was our second visit to the Princes Club. The 3 combinations of 3/9 holes were taxing, interesting and fun. All very well maintained by ground staff. The staff in the clubhouse were excellent. Free course guide and range balls. Bar staff were so pleasant and the food was good. Hotel was comfortable, again with helpful and attentive staff. The food was good and you could eat in the restaurant or the bar. We had one short downpour in 3 days on the course while the rest of the country was swamped. Great few days and right by the sea…a walk on the beach was lovely. Will go back for another stay next year.

Princes is the ultimate golf weekend. The courses are so good no matter what time of year you go. We went in a very wet March and the course was still in great condition. Then you have the lodge just down the road which has a great bar and restaurant on site. The staff are all so professional and effective it’s great to see. The food is brilliant as well. I was really surprised as I thought it might be the thing to let the trip down but it was absolutely superb. They whisky collection they have is amazing too. 100% will stay there again in the summer.

Easy to find - simples check in. We had an apartment for 4 of us and it was spotlessly clean. Two bathrooms with excellent showers. The appartment (No 5) overlooked one of the greens at Royal St George and watching the greenkeepers preparing the green first thing in the morning was fascinating.

The hotel itself is a rather dull but functional design, however the staff were lovely and the beds were sufficiently comfortable to enjoy a good night's sleep after a BIG night. The dinner was good without being outstanding, but the supplements and 3 bottles of a modest wine meant that we each paid an extra £74 for our meal.

Perfectly located with beach and practice green, restaurant and bar. comfortable. The staff were attentive, friendly and helpful. Generally exceptional. There was just one at breakfast who acted like I didn't exist. The evening meal was excellent and the beers are good! Our breakfast poached egg with avocado was vinegary, undercooked, and the avaocado not mashed. Esailiy remedied I'm sure. Could do with a drinking water fountain somewhere. Room spacious and comfortable.

The rooms were clean and comfy. The only real drama is breakfast as theres a lot of golfer to get through in a short amount of time and you must leave ample time from ordering to being served. This is all mainly down to the limited space in the dinning room and less a reflection on the staff abilities who were all very pleasant.

Exceptional golf across all three nine hole courses. Excellent fairways and greens and being a links course, stunning views and tough golf, especially when the wind blows. Practice facilities are excellent. The club house is wonderful with fantastic views across the course. Pro Shop staff were very supportive of our needs. A well stocked shop and reasonably priced. Definitely a venue to visit and play golf. It is a 4hr round of you have a clear run. However the moment you get a slow group the round can quickly turn into a 5+ hr round. The club would do well to have a Marshall on course to ensure golfers are keeping up with pace of golf.

My first return to Princes in 17 years (a fairly regular visitor between 1985 and 2006). Love the makeover in recent years including the slight redesign. Clearly investment has been made in the irrigation system. Tees, fairways and especially greens were all in very good condition. Clubhouse service relaxed and straightforward. Only grievance was that our booking for the final morning had been 'lost' somehow or we had been double-booked? ... Despite the fact it was very busy, we only had a short wait fortunately and then we were going. Would highly recommend.

True experience of links golf. The course is very well kept and the place has a touch of class about it. More than often the wind will blow which can make the course play difficult with every hole having long rough when you stray from the fairway that means you can spend a lot of time looking for your ball.

Excellent course and staff were great. Very friendly and helpful. I thought we had paid for the hire of our clubs but we had to pay for that on the day. Really enjoyed our round here.

Tough course and even harder with the wind but rough was cut to a sensible level so finding a stray shot was mostly possible.

Great golf course with enough variety and challenge to test the best golfer whilst remaining enjoyable! Greens were so consistent that putting was a joy and more puts holed than usual. Happy Days.

Id heard a lot about the courses and we were not disappointed in any way. Excellent condition and a real test, as long as on fairways all is fine lol. We loved all 3 courses, would definitely recommend

Courses were first class. Shores and Dunes on the first day. Some long par 4's esp into the breeze. Enjoyed the well-guarded par 3 greens. Usually a deep bunker in front of them, but I managed to avoid them. Putting surfaces were slick and true; run-offs to the sides of some of the greens made it tricky to decide whether to putt up the slope or chip. Himalaya and Shore on the Sunday and the Himalayas was equally as enjoyable. Well worth a trip and there are plenty of other courses nearby to add into the mix. Will go back to Princes though, any time.

Of the 3x Nine holes, we played Himalayas and Shore and we all loved this course. It seemed a little more natural and played a bit easier than Royal St. George's. The greens were very true and didn't lose too many balls in the rough! The staff were all very friendly but the clubhouse is inspiring and the pro shop looks a little down-at-heel. Nevertheless, we would happily return here.

We played all three nines over two days. All courses were excellent, the Dunes perhaps the hardest - it really helps to have played this nine before, to know where to go (and not!). Our mixed party of 16 all had a great experience.

Very lovely course, in excellent condition. We were very lucky with the weather, very little wind and beautiful sunshine so had probably the easiest conditions. SO SO disappointed to arrive and find the driving range out of action for the entirety of our stay, really put a dampener on the trip, as we all needed a bit of a warm up and practice after a 3 hour drive. But overall would highly recommend playing these 3 9s.

A wonderful links experience. We are low 20's handicappers and I'd say we were penalised quite harshly on some good shots. That's not a criticism of the course: it's just that I'd recommend a handicap of 18 or less to get a more positive outcome. Himalayas felt tight but great fun. Dunes bunkers and fairways can be punitive. Shore was the fairest. The whole experince was made better by excellent staff and a well arranged trip. Thank you. We'll remember for a long time.

✓23 May 2022
The Rain was hammering down as we arrived but we got lucky as after the first hole the rain eased and after 3 holes the sun was out and glorious weather although the wind got up a little on the back nine. This was easily the hardest of the three courses we played yet only had a stroke rating of 116 against mis 130's of the others very strange. The course was in excellent condition and all the staff we encountered were excellent which always makes the day better.

✓27 Apr 2022
4.5hr round but not really held up or holding others up. It was mainly 34mph winds that was doing everyone in! One or two hadnt quite taken and one or two bunker a bit thin with sand but the most part quality was very good. The value was however incredible.

✓21 Apr 2022
The course was in very good condition , the wind wasn't blowing so hard and the yellow tees were forward so gave the average golfer a decent chance to put a good score in. Very enjoyable and felt blessed to be able to play on at this venue.

✓14 Apr 2022
With any links course the wind dictates how easy or hard the course may play. If I had one small complaint would be the group ahead who were very slow but there were no marshals on the course to help to keep things moving along. Overall Princes & lodge is a perfect set-up for golfers.
Bob
✓6 Apr 2022
A most enjoyable but challenging experience. It is an exposed course so wind is always there at varying degrees and rain can make it uncomfortable but the courses themselves are fabulous and always in good condition.

Third visit for me, so you can see I like it. Facilities are brilliant. I could play on the putting green and short game area all day long! Three really nice 9s of great links golf. The dunes aren't quite so big as at RSG (or Cinque Ports) so less spectacular holes in general but all perfectly presented. Enormous and rapid greens with run off areas which would put most golf club greens to shame. Modern well appointed clubhouse. Nothing not to like

Polite welcome when we arrived, everything there you could ask for and the courses were great. We wanted to play a links so we could play a course that was dry, and this delivered as always. Fairways, tees and greens were as good as the summer season. As you'd expect, the courses are tough, it's links golf after all, so an approach that comes up short is swallowed by a bunker or ends up in a hollow and certainly makes it harder to get your par. Plenty of tee options depending on your ability, if you fancy 2 par 5's over 600 yards then take on the blues, but as we had 2 players playing off 20 something handicaps, the yellows were perfect. We'll be back for sure.

The pro shop and the bar staff are all very welcoming. The golf course takes the overall experience to a new level. Apart from some scarification on the fairways the condition of this course is immaculate. The green keepers deserve great applause. All three nine holes are very tough but so enjoyable at the same time. The layout is worthy of a top links course. Challenges around every corner make this a must play course.

Loved all three nines and had forgotten how stunning the location was. Shores proper wild links, Dunes more manicured and Himalayas challenging and tight. Not long which suits my game. Pro shop very friendly, helpful and knowledgable.Sadly the food offering in the bar was not up to the club standard and a simple cheese and pickle sandwich was the worst thing I had eaten in a long while, and at £8 more pain than pleasure. But a great outing overall and def on the repeat list. Thank you.

8 out of 10. Good course with some longer carries difficult for some of our members but adopting a drop system with one shot penalty made it possible to complete in a reasonable time. Not sure why Ham Egg and Chips we booked with your golf travel for after our round was not available. No doubt some administrative hiccup.

Pristine condition, take plenty of balls, rough ridiculously penal, I would recommend maximum 24 handicap as carry to fairways, would destroy a higher handicap.

✓1 Oct 2020
Strong wind and rain for part of the round made this course quite tough. Greens were good but some of the fairways were in poor condition. The rough was manageable and made it fairly easy to find everything except very wayward shots. A society out ahead of us were very slow and this caused some issues with the playing of the back nine as other groups were cutting in to start their round. Whether there was a mix up in the bookings I am not sure. A starter / ranger would have been useful.

From start to finish our experience was excellent. The staff were friendly and helpful. The greens and most fairways were also in great condition considering the storms and upgrade course work going on. My one moan would be the pace of play, which stretched to 4 and a half hours. Will definitely visit again.

I can’t give a full a account of the round as we did not finish the round Because of the dark ,we had an hour an fifteen minutes delay because of frost so by very careful if you book this course in the winter because they won’t let you out if there’s any frost of any description and they won’t offer and vouchers beware

The opening downwind holes can lull you into thinking it is going to be a walk in the park. Then you head into the prevailing wind and get your money's worth of golf! Nice variation of holes from Dunes to Himalayas, would have to play a few more times to see which I really prefer. Bunkers were fun to play out of, greens were slow compared to other courses we played but ran true. Staff in pro shop and restaurant very friendly and helpful. Look forward to returning.

Having seen the weather forecast for the weekend, thunder, lightning and strong winds (55mph). We tried to move the date but we were told only if lightning was around would that be considered. Thankfully the thunder and lightning did not appear but the wind was 50mph plus. It was totally ridiculous. You couldn’t keep the ball in play, even aiming 50 yds right would see your ball disappearing into the rough on the left. And putting was a joke, if you didn’t hit the hole you were off the green the other side. I even took about 5 minutes to get my ball to stay on the tee on the last raised teeing ground. Trollies were blown over on a regular basis, how we didn’t damage the batteries with them being ripped out is beyond me. In short it was one of the worst golfing experiences we’ve had. Princes were sympathetic (they had cancelled their members competition) but said because we had booked through you they were unable to give us free return voucher. Our feeling is it’s not worth risking £105 each to play there when there’s the fair chance of bad weather even in August.

Lovely links course. didn't get to play the Himalayas 9 but the Shore and Dunes were great. You could find your ball in the rough, but there wasn't much you could do apart from chip out at times. The greens and fairways were in beautiful condition. If you miss hit the green there was a good chance it would roll off down the side. A good test in the wind.

Three different 9’s. we played 18 on day one, 36 day 2 and 18 on day 3. If you like links courses then this is the place to play. The re-vamped Himalayas 9 was probably the most interesting and challenging and the Shore probably the easiest although not that easy! We both thoroughly enjoyed all the rounds. They allow 2 hours per 9 holes which is basically a 4 ball pace so if you are a 2 ball there will be some waiting involved which is fine, just relax and enjoy the experience.

✓25 Mar 2019
We played in March and the weather was cloudy both days with Saturday being very cold and having to wear multiple clothing & knitted hats to keep warm. The course played ok but I thought the fairways were not at their best & the greens could have been better for such a course as Princes. I put it down to both being tined earlier on over the winter. For the average golfer the 3 course of 9 holes play hard with unforgiving deep pot bunkers - go in a few of theses and it will more than likely ruin your score, as it's difficult, sometimes, to get out of them. But overall there great to play, but not in cold windy conditions, better to play in warm conditions as the sea winds cut through you. I'd recommend a weekend break here, with overnight stay, for a group of golfers looking who enjoy golfing challenge with very good facilities attached.
