The course has recently been used for a PGA Challenge Tour event, and despite its youth is a fantastic mature test. Set against the astounding backdrop of the Atlantic Coast, the course measures 6,419 yards from the championship tees, and is a terrific test for every player, be it the professionals or the average golfer.
The par-71 layout is undoubtedly a hidden gem of Europe, where you can enjoy an outstanding round of golf while you gaze over the rugged Atlantic coastline that makes Portugal's Western area so special.
Quinta da Marinha is a great place for some tuition, where the resident PGA professionals use the same technology that Tiger Woods utilises to streamline his swing.
In 2007 Quinta da Marinha hosted the best from the Challenge Tour as the venue of the Estoril Challenge de Portugal which was won by Surrey golfer Ross McGowan. McGowan's -12 total, which included a 66 in the final round, was good enough to claim the title and the 20,800 euro first prize.
Signature Hole: Hole 13, Par 4, 334 yards (White Tees), SI 8
While much of Quinta Da Marinha is threaded with beauty, boasting some stunning scenery of the Sintra mountains and the Atlantic Ocean, the 13th deserves a special mention. The luscious fairway rolls down towards the sea, before you are greeted with a green possessing some spectacular panoramic views. This picturesque par 4 is one of the most famous holes of Portuguese golf and it is to no wonder that the hole was used for many years to promote “golf in Portugal”.

The accommodation suited us well with 2 twin bedded rooms and a single room. The breakfasts at the Boutique hotel were excellent with a wide range of options to suit every taste. Bed linen and towels were changed on 3 occasions during our stay. We mostly ate in the Clubhouse bar which was very welcoming, reasonably priced and offered our party a sufficient range of culinary choice. All of our party thought the package excellent value for money.

We stayed in the villas which I wouldn’t describe as villas. They were 2 bedroom apartments which were clean and adequate for our stay.the shuttle bus which was always available took us to the hotel for breakfast and the drivers were very friendly and cooperative.drinks and food was expensive which we expected being 5 star hotel plenty of choice at breakfast.

Very comfortable hotel. Staff super friendly and helpful. We upgraded to a suite in the hotel for convenience rather than stay in one of the villas which are 10-15 mins walk away. Excellent breakfasts. Lots of other guests - golfers and non-golfers, mostly aged 40+ - so the hotel had a very good vibe.

Although only a 3 ball the round took 5 hours to complete. Luckily we were in a buggy. The people in front were incredibly slow and not sure they even had handicaps (this was never asked for and maybe should be ). Still had a nice time despite this.

✓26 May 2025
Been playing in Cascais for circa 7/8 years and first time on this course as we wanted a change from Otavios, would not rush back as basically it’s a “resort” course and unless you have played it before then you will struggle as good shots are not always rewarded, etc - also needs investment on the course infrastructure as paths / tracks are all over the place.
Andrew

Please warn other golfers that you will be required to give reception your credit card details in case of damage to the buggy booked by yourselves. We were concerned that they insisted on writing the card details down before we were allowed to play. We believe this is a high security risk which we pointed out to the reception but they were not interested.

A good course with good greens and a number of interesting holes. Well placed water will catch out many first timers. The unusual layout means the walk between holes often requires crossing fairways the final 4 holes are squeezed into a small area. We played at a steady pace with the occasional wait on a par 3 tee. Would play here again but not at €200 on the day green fee.

✓30 Oct 2024
We payed the course on 4 occasions in mostly sunny but at times breezy conditions. It did not appear overplayed and the greens were in good condition although difficult to read. We found the aprons around the greens very sticky and difficult to penetrate and as a result rather frustrating as often a lofted approach shot was impossible because of the overhanging pines. It remained a challenge throughout our stay!

Course has been turned around again, second time in the 6 years we have been going, but it now has a decent clubhouse rather than the ‘shed’ which now is the main shop for the driving range. Some good holes here with water at times. Maybe becoming too corporate, focused on income rather than golfing experience.

✓12 Sep 2023
Where do I start. The course is not having basic maintenance tasks completed such as cutting grass, raking bunkers, moving pin positions, and repairing tee boxes. The layout of the course is good but the lack of investment by the owners means it is one to completely avoid. We arrived at the club or be told our six tee times had been split with a 1h 30 gap. The day was a total disaster golf wise.

5th visit here and have noticed that it has become a little more of a business in the last couple of years where the focus seems to be to cram as many people as possible onto the course which is a shame as it is a nice course. As a two we were paired with some non english speaking people (not their fault i know!!) but it does detract from the overall experience ( in my opinion)
Anthony
✓10 Oct 2022
It appears that the course has been set up with limited space as it has five par 3’s and an excessive number of cross overs with a number of holes going off in different directions! As with Peña Longha the course was not in the best condition with many area parched and dry with no grass to play off!!

Buggies we’re requested but we’re not available. Fortunately the course was easy to walk around as very compact which isn’t always the case in Portugal! Michael

Enjoyed the course but tough to score well - especially when the wind was in your face. Speed of play ok on first outing but very slow the second round. Could have done with some marshalling. sadly this course is getting too many groups playing on it. held up on nearly every hole due to slow play ( mainly French and Scandinavians who don't really let you play through when they are looking for their balls)Very tight fairways which means a lot of lost balls and people playing 3 off the tee which as I say slowed the whole round up.Would be a great course if it had say 15 minutes between tee time not 10 minutes. Less would be more enjoyable.

Massive and speedy greens in good condition. Not so keen on the layout of the course as lots of crossing over - so very confusing. Club house very basic - no locker room. This is a longish course and provided decent holiday golf. We were coupled with partners who regularly played the course - fortunate in one way as they navigated us around however they actually played speed golf which lessened our experience.
