From the back tees, the par 71 Oitavos Dunes plays 6,970 yards which is plenty when the coastal winds get up. Sitting on the dramatic Atlantic Coast, this Arthur Hills course makes full use of the wonderful panoramas on offer from the ocean. Not only is the course beautiful, it is one of the most environmentally friendly courses in the world.
The course was carefully crafted within the Sintra-Casacais National Park and uses the pines and sand dunes of the land to perfectly compliment the coastline. The course is set-up like a classic Scottish links with nine outward holes and nine back.
The 14th hole is arguably the most memorable one on the course, although it is not an easy choice. A dramatic tee shot over a sandy gorge will test your nerve. This gorge stays with the hole and creates some danger to avoid on the right side of the hole. This 167 yard hole plays longer than the scorecard suggests so take an extra club.
The clubhouse offers a modern, warm and welcoming experience. The Verbasco restaurant is a wonderful place to have a bite to eat and a drink whilst reminiscing over the amazing course you just played. Sip on some local wine whilst taking in the views of the umbrella pines and the Atlantic Ocean.
You should take advantage of the well-stocked pro shop and take your chance to take home a souvenir of the trip. At the club you can also arrange for hire clubs, buggies and trolleys. You can even arrange yourself a caddy for your round if you call ahead before the day of your game. When you arrive at Oitavos Dunes, the caddie master and other staff will take care of every detail of your visit. Upon arrival, simply drop your clubs off then relax as the staff get your clubs ready for you. This gives you time to go to luxurious changing rooms to prepare yourself for your upcoming golf.
The attention to detail involved in every part of your stay at Oitavos Dunes makes visiting truly unforgettable. Many people who have been before talk of being able to remember the entire course long after playing. Treat yourself to some golfing luxury and arrange a trip this Lisbon golfing gem.

This golf course is spectacular from tee to greens. It was incredible golf experience and the views were immaculate. We were late in the season so the apres golf was lacking but we can't wait to get back.

I would play this course again in a heartbeat. Upmarket feel to the place. We played the course on a nice sunny but windy day and it proved to be quite a challenge. No one in a group of 12 hit more than 30 points which says it all. Great condition greens receptive and fine, if you were offline you could fine your ball but it was like playing out of a bunker. The only negative thing was the lack of toilets and the drinks trolley came round only once.

The big negative was playing early July greens on front nine were under maintenance. Scarified and sanded, with two holes closed. Never seen greens ripped up so badly. Back nine was better but greens a little slow. Nice design course otherwise.

A truly excellent golf course - a lot of fun to play ! We had very diffult conditions with extremely high winds which made for two different courses - one into the wind and one down wind !!!

Just a hugely enjoyable experience for the most part. There were 2 or 3 holes in the middle of the back 9 that put us in the firing line from other holes which detracted slightly but otherwise very very good

Good service on arrival, bags were taken from us and taken to the buggy area ready for loading. Pro shop, chipping area and putting green were all good. The course had a nice layout and some interesting holes. Chicken salad was a solid 8.5/10 with great service in the restaurant.

The best course in the area by far. With a 30 minute gap in front of our first group play was quick. The fairways are wide with sandy tree lined sides, miss the fairway and you will be hitting a 80yard recovery shot. We played in a strong wind making some holes feel short for the 18 handicap player but into the wind a par 5 took 4 excellent shot to leave 40 yard onto the raised green. The greens were best I’ve played in Portugal for several years. A most enjoyable, interesting and open course, a little more signage to the next tee the only improvement required.

✓27 Sep 2024
Very tough course and not advisable for high handicappers because if you are off the fairway at all then you are in real trouble with either lost balls in the sand dunes and gorse or thick bushes. Greens were very difficult to read and a real challenge

Beautiful course. It is a hard course but has plenty of room albeit the room is usually a sand dune. Well worth a visit.
Jeffrey
✓22 Sep 2024
Great views and some interesting holes but on the day we played there were some very slow groups in front who lost 4 holes before the Marshall moved things on. We played in very calm conditions so not a tough course but I’m sure it would be very different when the wind blows.

Overall golfing experience was excellent - the course was in good condition and the setting was spectacular. Facilities (food and beverage) were a bit limited, possibly as early season. The only downside was pace of play on some occasions - we endured a 5 hour round behind a fourball that lost 3 holes on the group in front of them. A Marshall was needed to move such groups on. Course was average difficulty of the yellow markers and significantly more difficult of whites or blues

I have played here a few times and love the place. The 11 others in the group all loved the place as well. The downside was they did not have enough buggies so we had to walk. Not their fault but yourself travel should make it clear that if you want buggies they should reserve them for you this was never discussed or any suggestion made. expensive bar!

Fantastic. Beautiful setting excellent condition. On course drink and food buggy. Staff seemed engaged and interested in golfers. The starter, in particular, was very helpful. Please note that the clubhouse bar and restaurant are closed on Mondays and you have to visit the on site hotel if you want a post match beer. The course recognize the difficulty and advise a pace of play of 4:28 which is approx the time we took without being held up or holding up anyone behind.

Oitavos is a challenging course. the buggies are expensive compared to the other courses but they were the best. however, the clubhouse is soulless. the bar is closed on a monday and yet the course was busy! they sent us to the hotel to get a drink after the round and that was like going into a clinic. it was stark and bare. also the person who took our drinks order just seemed to decide that he wasnt going to serve us because he didnt understand what we had ordered( a large beer,a small beer and two lime and soda!). |Oitavos is worth it for the course but thats about it!

Lovely golf course. A bit "up and down" on a few holes, but very well laid out. Excellent course if you like links golf, but it isn't as close to the ocean as I had expected.
Dirk
✓25 May 2022
Liked the course proper links feels wind and greens are the defense of the course. More open than others. Buggies were super expensive compared to other courses at Euro 58 each with no group discount. Restaurant was open only from 12 to noon so no breakfast or after game opportunity to eat if playing at noon. Food cart really limited and food in restaurant was expensive.

Great course but let down by a total lack of facilities !! Not able to even get a coffee / tea on arrival ! ( They did switch the coffee machine on when I asked but only black coffee was on offer). Expensive Buggies (58 euros per buggy) and the bar was not open so again no facility to get an refreshment when we had finished our round. 4/10

For an event on the professional tour I was disappointed with the overall experience. Extremely expensive for anything & it seemed the club was only interested in making money. There were no marshals on the course, hence a large group managed to hold us up throughout our round taking 5 1/2hrs to complete. Far far too long & it should have been managed by the club. Not as impressed as I thought I would have been & will not be going back.

✓21 May 2019
Very good golf course 4 of the greens had been oversanded hence the low mark of the greens. Hospitality was very poor was told to sit outside to eat before round and then told afte 1 drink that the bar was closed due to an event , although no-one had turned up by the time we left

We were delayed flying out and the staff were very helpful to facilitate later tee times. Lovely restaurant. Had heard so many good reports about this supposedly 3rd best course in Portugal. It really was in poor condition with lots of unattractive waste areas. Bit open double fairways which were congested. Greens not great. Very disappointing.

✓12 May 2019
great course sadly the weather was very bad when we played and the world amateur championship was being played the next day they were out practicing that day so the pins were in very tough possitions, all in all it was too diricult for us off our handicaps mid to high teens, although this didnt stop us loving it and wanting to play it again
