Ratho Park Golf Club is one of Edinburgh's lesser known golfing delights, but it is well worth the short journey west of the capital as it boasts a lovely parkland layout and splendid countryside surroundings, as well as a magical clubhouse housed in a Grade I listed mansion house.

Sitting near Dalmahoy, it allows for plenty of golf in a short space of time. Ratho is so picturesque and allows any ability to enjoy their golf.

Ratho is only a short drive from Edinburgh Airport and offers the golfer a fantastic chance to drive a par 4, hit the green with water lurking but ultimately enjoy the surroundings and the immaculate presented course. With it only being 9 miles from the Capital city centre, easy access allows Ratho to be a must play.

Ratho Park Golf Club

The golf course at Ratho Park was originally laid out over the hilly parcel of land that is now home to Edinburgh Zoo. in fact it was in 1928 that the club relocated to the current site some 10 miles to the west. It was officially opened in 1929 and this was marked in a match between James Braid and Harry Vardon who were both in East Lothian for the Open which was taking place at the nearby Muirfield.

Thankfully the new course is considerably flatter, and although relatively short it provides a terrific golfing experience. Golfers can opt to try to drive the par 4 3rd as well as taking on the Par 3 15th hole, with water lurking, challenges lie unexpectedly around Ratho, but one you must take heed and enjoy. The course now measures just over 6,000 yards and is renowned for consistently having some of the best greens in the area.

In the shadow of the magnificent country house, Ratho Park's James Braid designed golf course is a gem and one that comes highly recommended for Edinburgh golf tour visitors.
