Royal Belfast Golf club was established in 1881, when local man Thomas Sinclair, who had fallen in love with the game on a recent trip to St Andrews, decided to establish a golf course in his local town.
The scenic Harry Colt designed layout is located just 15 minutes from Belfast International Airport and deserves to be rated as one of Northern Ireland’s top golf courses.

The course is now one of only four in Ireland to be honoured with the ‘Royal' title.
Royal Belfast as it is now is based on the 1925 layout conceived by Harry S. Colt, and is set in a fantastic location, with unrivalled views of Belfast Lough and the Antrim plateau above. Arguably the finest hole on the golf course is the 415-yard opening hole, a challenging uphill par-4 which dog-legs to the left.
Royal Belfast is also fortunate to have an amazing clubhouse; built to serve as a private home for a Belfast linen manufacturer in 1852, the magnificent construction has been modernised to serve as a clubhouse, and is one of the luxurious around.
Royal Belfast Golf Club is located off the A2 between Holywood and Bangor, 25 miles from Belfast International Airport.

What a hidden gem. You’ll be hard pressed to find a better conditioned golf course that allows visitors to play!

This is great place to spend the day and play golf. Loved the long driveway up to the stunning clubhouse. Course was in immaculate condition. Quick forgiving given the open park land but I enjoyed the subtle greens. Some stunning views and holes looking out to the Irish Sea.

Glad we played the oldest course in Ireland. Good course but not as enjoyable as Ballycastle

Round was slow as we were behind four Americans who showed no signs of letting us through. No matter as course is beautiful. Very wet in places and indeed we were subjected to absolute drenching downpour for around 15 minutes. Course has apparently been closed several days this summer due to being too wet. Facilities were lovely although no atmosphere as nobody was in the bar during our hour there after we finished.

Yet another great course, found lies on fairways tough, all because of slopes and hills, nice place, nice people.

Stunning set up, course in fantastic condition snd a real challenge from the white tees. Club house is like a step back into a bygone era with it’s ‘Stately Home’ look. Club captain and staff were very welcoming. A special thanks to the restaurant staff for looking after our golf party. A truly memorable experience.
