Royal West Norfolk Golf Club, often referred to as 'Brancaster', is one of England's more traditional golfing establishments, and is certainly among the country's more unique. Wedged between Brancaster Bay and the neighbouring salt marshes, the course's character is inherently linked to the tide - in fact, during high tide, Royal West Norfolk becomes an island!

Founded in 1892 and granted Royal patronage by Queen Victoria, Royal West Norfolk has hardly changed from Holcombe Ingleby's original design. The course is one of only a few constructed before the 1920's to have kept the original sleeper faced bunkers and greens.

A round at Brancaster can be delightfully peaceful with only the sound of the coastal birds to keep you company but if the weather turns then the course can become extremely challenging. Royal West Norfolk is a classic bump & run links course and is a perfect addition to a golf holiday around Norfolk.

Royal West Norfolk Golf Club

This remarkable backdrop sets the stage for a thrilling and challenging test of golf, played over courses formulated by Holcombe Ingleby. The splendid isolation at this Royal course engenders a feeling of being at one with the course, and focuses the mind on the challenge at hand.

Royal West Norfolk can indeed be quite a challenge; the links design is at times quirky, a nod to the course's aged roots. But the setting is absolutely astounding, especially after you round the fifth - from here, the coastal views are tremendous, and all that is left is to tackle the inevitable wind that whips across the marshes.

This is a truly different and amazing golfing experience - be sure to pencil Royal West Norfolk into your next golf tour in East Anglia.
