Forming part of a magnificent 300-acre estate, including 50 acres of lakes, the highly acclaimed 18-hole championship course at Slieve Russell incorporates the lakes and hills of the County Cavan landscape beautifully. The main features of the course are two large lakes which are connected by a stream. Water is, not surprisingly, a hazard on a number of holes. Slieve Russell has recently been voted as the best parkland course in Ireland for 2016 by 'The Irish Golfers Guide' & 4th Best parkland course in Ireland by 'Golfing Magazine'.
At over 7,000 yards from championship tees, it is a challenge for even the best players, but there are multiple teeing areas to allow players of all abilities to enjoy a round. The 13th is arguably the signature hole. It's a fantastic risk-reward par-5 that winds around Lough Rud. The danger with the tee shot is how much water you should take on in order to reduce the distance of the hole and potentially reach the green in two. The Lough is full of balls from players who were too greedy!
The Slieve Russell has hosted some major Irish PGA Tournaments. These include The Irish PGA Championship in 1996, won by Des Smyth, and also the Quinn Insurance PGA Charity Pro-Am. The Slieve Russell has also played host to European Tour events - North West of Ireland Open in 2001 & 2002.

The rooms have been refurbished since the last time I was here which was a really nice surprise as they used to have a very dated feel to them. Staff/food/drink all excellent and they had several screens with Sky Sports showing the Ryder Cup which was important for us.

They were a bit sort staffed with regards serving in the bar, wasn't the end of the world as we doubled up on drinks. The hotel itself was nice, the rooms could do with a bit of a touch up but it was perfect for us. No complaints on our end

The course is fantastic. I only marked the overall condition down slightly as large amounts of rainfall had left the course with some standing water, but this had nothing to do with how it is generally kept. The greens where incredible. The multiple par 3s over water are beautiful, and the signature holes round the lake (12 & 13) are not only a great spectacle, but a tough challenge. I would never get tired of playing Slieve Russell.

The course was in excellent condition. I would describe the course as difficult in places but fair. It didn't seem to be too long in yardage. The course is in a beautiful setting with water hazards at several holes. I look forward to playing there again in the future. Thanks to Grainne and Ivor in the pro shop with assistance on buggies etc.

Excellent golf venue and hotel all reasonably priced. On the days that we played the course was very quiet each round taking less than 4 hours. Travelling without a car was the only downside. - 2 hours taxi drive from either Belfast or Dublin at a cost more than the flight. Probably best to drive or hire a car.

This is the 10th time that I've played the course and it never disappoints. As good an inland course as you'll play with a very good variety of holes.

Gorgeous course with some really nice views. I would give it an average/hard rating due to the length but it wasn't too tough once you kept the ball in play. Only issue was the staff in the pro shop, quite rude and a bit dismissive but sure you don't have to deal with them too much. Overral, great trip and big thanks to Sam
