The Manor Course, as it is now known, has seen a vast transformation in recent years when management wisely turned to Ross McMurray of European Golf Design, a highly regarded architect who was also commissioned to oversee improvements at Woburn, and the 2010 Ryder Cup venue in Wales, the Celtic Manor Resort.
The resultant 6,547 yards Championship Course, which is now regarded as one of the Norfolk's best courses, and have already hosted the PGA Europro players events. The challenge at the 7th, the Manor's signature hole, is to avoid the water that skirts the fairway.
The excellent putting surfaces are constructed in line with USGA principles, ensuring superb condition and adding to the terrific outcome. The golf course is ably assisted by Sprowston Manor's fantastic new practice facility, complete with a 26-bay floodlit range, which also incorporates the latest GASP tuition technology and the expertise of no less than 3 PGA professionals, all reputed for their superb tuition.

We had a great time away, but found the hotel a bit tired, had visited before when it was a Marriott and was great. The club house on arrival had little food and on bitter filter coffee available as the machine wasn’t working so we headed to the main hotel bar to see if we could get a bite to eat and the bar area was closed so no tea’s or coffees available and no food so we all headed out to a nearby McDonalds. The food for the evening meal was OK but just average. Value wise it was OK for what we paid but just found the facilities a bit lacking and tired. Service through booking via Your Golf Travel was great and couldn’t have been more helpful, polite and informative!

Lovely hotel with helpful staff. Room was comfortable and clean but unbearably hot even with the windows open. Dinner was an experience as it took three hours for a three course meal! Food was very good but the inexperienced, young staff were overwhelmed - thank goodness it wasn't busy.

Unfortunately the quality of food was poor. Chicken undercooked (bloody !! ) and had to be sent back. Main course overcooked and dry, overall a very disappointing evening meal. Pillows were far too hard, awful. Management seemed to know this.

Small but adequate room in old part of hotel. Was very windy so got rattle windows. Was a bit chilly so used the heater which was in room to make cozy. Tea, coffee and biscuits in room as well as toiletries so all good. Dinner excellent and several choices. Included 3 generous courses. Breakfast was good. My husband found the cooked breakfast a little in cool side as had been there a while but that’s only slight downside. He asked for freshly cooked eggs and they produced then quickly and without a fuss. Pleasant and happy staff.

Sprowston is a nice hotel,a bit tired in places but overall very nice. The staff were extremely polite and friendly, especially in the bar and restaurant. Reception wasn't always manned, which can be frustrating but I assume that was because there wasn't enough staff to go round. The food was OK. Because we had a package deal with the golf, we had to pre order, as there were 8 of us and the menu was extremely limited, only 2 or 3 options for each course. We saw other people were offered other more varied options. Portions were quite small. As for breakfast, this was poor. Dried up food, with grey looking scrambled eggs and leathery bacon etc and the continental breakfast not very enticing. However this wouldn't stop us coming again, as the gokf was great and it's proximity to Norwich park and ride is excellent (just a few minutes walk down the road) which was great for the members of our group that don't play golf. The ladies enjoyed that and also the spa facilities.

Great place with large pleasant room and comfortable beds. A twin gave us 2 double beds so a big bonus. Excellent food and plenty in restaurant with attentive helpful staff. Good golf course. Some delays on course due to slow play but this not the hotels fault. Possibly better if greater time lapse between tee times.

The hotel and facilities are on the whole nice, however the hotel offers no food during the day and neither does the golf clubhouse! Therefore having travelled for a few hours to get there before playing golf, we couldn't get anything to eat, not even a basic cold sandwich! This is not acceptable from a hotel which is advertising as a weekend resort.

✓24 May 2022
Look the Garry of course was terrific. The food overall was good. We were 12 for golf so the priority was socialising and golf. But the golf bar closed at 530 pm when golfers were still out. We teed off at 1115 so we're back in time other societies were not so could not get a drink or snack. The restaurant bar didn't open til 6 pm no lunch snacks or a lunchtime pint there. It also closed at 1030. So we could not enjoy the evening in the hotel. You can't put your expense on the room, cash or card only even though they took a card up front. Meals wer fron 630 to 8. We had booked meals through you. However on Saturday they forgot about us when we arrived at 730, all 12. They said it was fully booked even though we had paid already. After a fuss they found a side room and wavered the food cash supplements, you need to warn people that some meals have hidden supplements, £6.50 for beef wellington and £5 cheese board. actually the side room allowed us to be noisy but of course we were forgot so the meal took ages. The rooms on the whole were clean but really hot. The windows only opened an inch. Our room had a pungent smell all the time, no room service so we had to hunt down tea coffee milk toilet roll soap etc. A member of staff said the new owners, Britannia hotels, look them up, halved staff hence the closure of the bars and slow and short meal times. We've been here before and enjoyed drinking eating etc at the hotel but if that's what a golf society wants, and on the whole you do, you will be disappointed.

Despite seeing some bad reviews I had no bad experiences at all. The whole hotel was fine, food great, and the staff were brilliant. The two main bar staff Louise and Lauren were exceptional very helpful and always with a smile and chatty. The restaurant staff were always cheerful too, despite being understaffed nothing took too long. Onto the golf course, this was probably the best course we’ve played on our weekend trips away. Overall everyone in our party, 6 couples, said that we’d certainly go back.

✓29 Sep 2021
We recently stayed for a Sunday Driver, the course is in good condition and was a good challenge, however, the hotel restaurant was chaotic. Having booked a table for dinner at 8 pm we were finally served our starter at 8.55, we did receive an apology. The food was good when it arrived however the cheese board was disappointing as it contained "Babybel" which is very inexpensive. The staff tried their best but could do with more training. Breakfast was poor, with most things running out at the same time, coffee, bacon eggs, etc. After reporting to the staff that more was needed it took 15 minutes before it arrived. Conclusion, good course shame about the hotel.

✓20 Aug 2021
Overall very poor. No comparison with our previous two visits. Checked out at 18.55 on Monday 16th( our wedding anniversary)!! Two days early. Room was dirty. Safe did not work. No soap in bathroom. Nowhere in hotel or golf clubhouse to buy lunch. Dinner only available on Sunday 15th, though we had paid for 3 dinners. Rooms not made up during stay. Disgrace for a hotel of this type. Awaiting feedback From YGT on refund as hotel would not help. Will consult legal advice if a fair refund nut forthcoming.
Paul
✓9 Aug 2021
Room fine, queued to check in, lack of feeling welcome, lots of signs re mask wearing etc but it was not being enforced any where in the hotel. Restaurant a bit tired, dinner okay but not brilliant. No ice cream. Tried to add a supplement of £5 for cheese when it was not shown on the menu and also tried to overcharge for a glass of wine although this was eventually corrected. Breakfast chaotic too many people trying to use a poorly laid outbuffet, lack of small plates, many hot item not refreshed, most people not wearing masks or distancing. It is a shame the quality of the hotel is not as good as the clubhouse and golf shop. Staff in Pro shop were good as well.
Fred

As this is no longer a Marriott hotel it has gone downhill dramatically. The organisation was a shambles with no sign of any management to sort it out. Instead it was left to young inexperienced staff who could not really be blamed. We have been twice before when it was under previous ownership but would definitely not go again.

Nice rooms and settings. Sadly during COVID difficult to judge how nice it normally was before the restrictions. Evening meal was the downside. Four or us in the party I chose from a limited menu slow roast beef rib which was really nice but the 3 others all went for the burger. Diplomatically they chose not to complain as we only stayed for one night but the burgers were so overcooked they were virtually inedible

✓6 Oct 2020
Overall the hotel and rooms were great, especially at the price paid. The only negative was that the restaurant was fully booked on the day (book the restaurant in advance to avoid this) and then getting a taxi was a slow process and with the new 10pm rules it wasnt worth going anywhere else. The hotel is a taxi ride from anywhere else. The hotel bar was very slow for drinks due to table service, but the staff were really helpful and did their best with new covid rules in place. Overall a great night away.
Chris
✓6 Oct 2020
Staff great. Rooms very spacious and clean (we had twin room and got a double bed each). Due to Covid-19 there was a 45 minute wait for breakfast (due to limited numbers allowed in dining room). The hotel rooms were great very spacious clean comfortable. Plenty of toiletries. The golf course was great. Really enjoyed playing it. Pool area well maintained and clean. Enjoyed using it. The restraunt let it down. Very inexperienced young staff who need training. They did their best. Had to wait far too long for food. 45 mins for starter but 4th person didn't get her for another 15 mins. So had to eat it on her own. Then another hour wait for main. Breakfast OK but the scrambled egg was like rubber.!! They need to sort this out. We don't recommend it. Your golf travel organised everything well as usual. No prob with that at all... Just the restraunt..

✓27 Dec 2018
The room was actually very nice. It was large and well equipped with a spacious bathroom. Rated 1 star because of a mechanical noise which was at it's worse near the headboard of the bed. It was not our extractor fan/heating system/fridge. My family, who were staying, checked out and confirmed the noise existed (their room was the same without noise). It was a mechanical noise which in spite of us complaining was not dealt with in any way. Staff said that the hotel was old and had just changed hands and that a refurbishment was due in the next couple of years!! Do not allow yourself to be placed in room 107. You will not sleep!!!

The course wasn’t in to bad of condition for the time of year, we just found it very slow with the amount of people out. The Monday was particularly slow with having to wait at most tees. There was plenty of time between tee times so just down to slow play mainly from the groups ahead.

Enjoyable course with some great risk and reward holes. Fairways showed the effects of a dry summer but were in pretty decent condition. The greens were true and rolled well even when saturated following a cloudburst. The bunkers however, were a disappointment - too much sand in many of them and footmarks and holes from inconsiderate golfers didn't help

✓26 May 2025
The course was great, despite the fairways being very parched but that's not the green keepers fault, we need more rain, preferably not when we're playing golf. The cost of the golf was included in a package deal with our hotel stay, so can't comment on the cost of our rounds of golf but the whole package was great value. However, we thought the prices for food etc in the sports bar was a bit pricey. Staff in the clubhouse were not particularly helpful, although one new member of staff was very polite and came over to apologise when he got our order wrong and was very pleasant. Staff in the golf shop were very helpful and pleasant.

Food in clubhouse was restricted and poor. The golf on day one was very nice and round in just under 4 hours which the course advises 4hrs 10mins. Day 2 however was so bad we walked in after 7 holes. The bunkers have been placed in probably the best places I've found on any golf course very enjoyable time spent on the course

We all enjoyed the course tees & greens excellent, fairways dry because of drought conditions but were playable.

Obviously with the warm weather the fairways were really dry and u didn't know what way the ball was going to go after hitting the ground so had to get club selection spot on otherwise the bounce and roll could leave u short or over pitched was not happy with some club members telling us to speed up when it was the 4 ball and the 3 ball in front of us were slow

First round no hold ups but second round took an hour longer. Suggest the course Marshall could be more pro active

A good course for a golf break for a group with a range of abilities . Bunkers were a little inconsistent re sand but overall a really enjoyable stay

Course was great. Greens fantastic. Bunkers could do with a bit more sand in them. Overall great days play.

Absolutely beautiful. No hills perfect for a society. Great well stocked golf shop, buggies available helpful staff great bar when it was open but did not sell snacks to take round. No refreshment buggy either which would have done well.

Cannot fault anything about the course. The greens, the fairways, the clubhouse, putting green and driving range..... all perfect. A great weekend, wel shall return.

2 rounds throughout weekend, play was quick and course in great condition considering the recent rain and storms. Greens were well kept and fairly quick. Would recommend this course.

Described as hard as two rounds of 4 people and only one round to handicap. Greens had been treated but still played true so easily overcome once pace worked out.

Probably the best course we’ve played on our weekends away. In great condition but the greens had been spiked and treated which made them bumpy, just like all greens at this time of year. Quite slow at times, but it was very busy. More than willing to play it again.

Played 3 rounds, everyone thought it was a very nice course challenging but fair.Condition was good, the greens are undulating and a good challenge. One of the best courses I've played this year. Highly recommend

Golf OK. Only one round as we left early, as indicated above. Staff rather surly, though met our needs. Overall all staff in hotel and at golf centre seemed entirely disenchanted.

There were no hold ups from other groups and the greens and fairways were really good. However, the rough was very punitive. There was a problem with our start times but the prpshop shop eventually sorted it out.

The course should have been closed as it was waterlogged. We only played 7 holes partially due to the really wet conditions but also as we caught up a 4 ball of mature men who slowed the game but we’re disinclined to let us through.

Unfortunately we played in horrible conditions as it rained heavily throughout the first day and last part of the second. So the course was muddy in places. In better weather conditions it would be a pleasant parkland course to play on.

Unfortunately the weather was not good and it rained for half the round on the first day, and all day for the second day, so hence the ground was sodden and partially flooded in places. It would be great to go back and play under better circumstances, as it does seem a lovely course!

Considering how much rain there had been the course held up well. Overall the fairways and greens were in good shape. A good mix of holes and was a good level for us who are all 18+ handicap players.

Played 2 rounds. First was very slow (we were behind a society) but second was much better. Course took a lot of rain in the days leading up to our visit, so was pleasantly surprised that only a couple of holes had drainage issues. Greens were very good condition and diverse/challenging. Shame we couldn’t get buggies both days. Also disappointing that the club house didn’t serve food and closed very early.

Course would be challenging on any day but with the wet weather this weekend and no run on the fairways plus long par 3s as well it was a great course, shot a 90 and my pal 84 really enjoyed and a few beers in the zest cafe bar was a nice end to a great day😁👍

Good course , fairways were superb , tee box average , and the greens and been drilled in prep for winter so was tricky putting , lots of bunkers so that made it interesting

We played in very poor conditions wind heavy rain and were soaked through infact some of our group did not finish the round and only played one of the two rounds that we booked. The break was still good value and I am sure that we would like to play it again in the future

the course was a real gem! I have rated it as hard purely as the greens were lightening fast and I could not get the rub of them! tee boxes were in good condition, fairways were nice, but obviously dry. you could easily pick your way around with an iron all day, but there some good long holes for the driver. only 1 x par 3 of around 150yrd, the rest were all over 185yds long.

Food in the clubhouse was very poor quality and the selection poor. Both dining area and toilets in the clubhouse were dirty, and the changing rooms and passages needed a good clean. Both toilets were out of action with only the disabled toilet available for everyone it was dirty. Totally different to our last visit albeit some years ago.

A very pleasant away day round of golf. A very forgiving course which would suit beginner/intermediate players.

Really enjoyed the course that was ideal for a mid to high handicapper. Unfortunately on the Sunday [and we're not told] we were behind a junior competition that resulted in the first 9 holes taking two and three quarter hours! Not helped by the lack of course etiquette of the accompanying adults, marking cards on greens. parking up trolleys on the front. BUT Monday morning was wonderful and toatl package was tremendous value.
