Firstly, the club’s name is merely a tribute to the home of golf – suffice to say that the course itself has nothing in common with that of St Andrews. The par 74 creation measures an astonishing 7,777 yards, and Muirhead has gone to town by fashioning some truly remarkable holes.
There is a fairway shaped to reflect the curves of a woman’s body, canyons, boulders, split-level and split-tiered fairways, and of course, the jaw-dropping par-6s! These measure 878 and 861 yards respectively, and demand four of your Sunday best to get home.
Whilst it may teeter on the edge of crazy golf on a larger scale at times, St Andrews 2000 is truly one of the world’s unique courses, and is a remarkable golfing experience.
There’s a free pint for anyone who hits the green in two shots on either of the par 6s!
