Stoneham Golf Club spans a parcel of ground that was actually worked over by the esteemed landscape architect, Capability Brown, in 1775. Since then there have been a few cosmetic changes, not least the addition of this wonderful golf course in the early 1900's. Willie Park Junior takes you on a true journey and one unique point is that the back 9 loops inside the front nine.
Southampton's premier golf course is steeped in history with many top Professionals walking the fairways as well as playing host to some major golfing events down the years. The course has had a regular spot in England's Top 100 golf course list for many years and the exciting future projects will see them stay high on everyones bucket list.

The golf course at Stoneham was opened in 1908 with a match between J.H. Taylor and James Braid, two great names of the era, having been designed by Willie Park Junior. Park’s portfolio includes Sunningdale’s Old Course, but Stoneham is among his less well known successes.
Stoneham has in the past held high profile events including the European Tour’s Dunlop Masters, but at nearly 6,400 yards, it is considered too short by today’s standards. Against a standard scratch of 70, Stoneham remains a stern test, and with a set of holes whose character varies drastically throughout, there is never a dull moment.
Set in charming surroundings, Stoneham is one of the south coast’s real gems, and is an essential part of any golf tour in the Southampton and Bournemouth area.

Our first visit to Stoneham and it certainly won’t be our last. Excellent layout, fairways weren’t in the best of condition due to the hot weather but lots of visually different holes and a really good test of golf. We had a couple of +25 handicap players who struggled to get on the fairway on certain holes, so it may not suit players who struggle to hit 150 yds plus off the tee. Overall, very good.

The staff were really helpful and we were even welcomed by the Club Captain, hoping that we enjoyed our day. The course itself was great and is a proper golf course, in an perfect setting. The condition of the course was outstanding. Would love to go back and play it again.
