Located in the heart of the beautiful seaside town of Criccieth, The Lion Hotel offers the perfect combination of comfortable accommodation, great food, excellent facilities and a warm Welsh welcome. Ideally situated for golfers exploring the spectacular courses of the Llŷn Peninsula and North Wales, the hotel is the ideal base for golf societies, touring groups, couples and individual golfers alike.

The Llŷn Peninsula is one of those corners of Britain that rewards the golfer willing to make the journey. Nefyn Golf Club is an easy drive from the hotel and a must-play on any Llŷn Peninsula itinerary, its clifftop fairways delivering the kind of views that make you forget what you scored. Royal St. David's at Harlech is also comfortably reachable for a day's golf and brings a very different championship links test, one that has hosted the Amateur Championship and demands serious respect. For a touring group with a few days and an appetite for proper golf, this part of North Wales punches well above its weight.

From a warm welcome on arrival to a comfortable night's sleep, exceptional dining and the perfect 19th Hole experience, The Lion Hotel Criccieth is where great golf days begin and end.

Who is this for?
Golf societies, touring groups, couples and individual golfers looking for a well-run, sociable base with genuine Welsh character and strong access to the courses of the Llŷn Peninsula and North Wales.

Who is it best for?
Groups who want variety on the course and comfort off it, particularly those building a multi-day itinerary across the peninsula's links and parkland layouts. If you want a proper 19th hole experience at the end of a long day rather than a soulless hotel bar, The Lion Hotel is your place.

Accommodation at The Lion Hotel - Criccieth

The Lion Hotel offers 34 en-suite bedrooms spread across the property, each one comfortable and well-appointed for the needs of a travelling golfer. The rooms are individually decorated, which gives the hotel a character that larger chain properties rarely manage. The beds are the kind you actually look forward to after a long day on exposed links turf, and the en-suite bathrooms are well set up for a quick turnaround on an early tee time. There is nothing fussy about the décor, which suits the mood of a golf break well.

For golf groups, the split between hotel rooms and self-catering apartments is one of the biggest practical advantages the property offers. Six self-catering apartments sit alongside the main hotel accommodation, each with a modern living area and a fully equipped kitchen. That combination gives organisers genuine flexibility when it comes to matching rooming plans to different budgets and group sizes.

The en-suite rooms work well for couples, twin-share bookings and shorter stays where you want the simplicity of a hotel setup. The apartments come into their own on longer tours where extra space makes a real difference. If your group likes to gather before dinner, sort tee times over breakfast or store kit without feeling cramped, the apartments make the whole trip run more smoothly. They are particularly well suited to groups of four travelling together, where the shared living space becomes part of the experience rather than an afterthought.

Practically speaking, the hotel's location on Y Maes, Criccieth's central square, means you can park up, check in and walk into town rather than needing cars for every evening plan. Free on-site parking is included, along with EV charging facilities, which takes one more logistical headache off the list for groups driving to the peninsula. The town's pubs, restaurants and seafront are all within a short walk, so the evening does not have to start and end at the hotel unless you want it to.

For society organisers putting together a rooming list, the combination of 34 hotel rooms and six apartments gives you enough flexibility to accommodate groups of varying sizes without having to split across multiple properties. That is a genuine advantage on a touring trip, where keeping the group together matters as much as the golf itself. The hotel team is experienced in hosting golf groups and understands what that means in practice, from early breakfasts before a morning tee time to a relaxed check-out when the final round runs long.

Food & Drink

Three dining venues under one roof is a genuine point of difference, and The Lion Hotel makes the most of it across breakfast, dinner and the post-round wind-down.

Llewelyn's Restaurant is where the day begins and ends properly. Breakfast is a hearty Welsh affair, the kind that sets you up for 18 holes on a breezy peninsula course without any danger of flagging on the back nine. In the evening the kitchen leans into locally sourced ingredients, and the menu reflects the quality of what this part of Wales produces. The atmosphere is relaxed and the service is attentive without being overbearing, which is exactly the right register for a group of golfers who want to eat well and talk through the day's round.

The Ruby Room takes a different direction entirely. The Ruby Room gives groups a welcome change of pace on a multi-night stay, especially if you want something more memorable than a standard hotel dinner on the second evening. Authentic Indian cuisine, prepared with care and built around traditional recipes, makes it a firm favourite for returning guests. For a group celebrating a good round or simply wanting something different on night two, it earns its place.

The Mane Place Sports Bar is the 19th hole that every golf hotel should have but many do not. Sky Sports and TNT Sports cover the screens, which means major golf tournaments, Premier League football, rugby, Formula 1 and whatever else the sporting calendar throws at a given weekend are all accounted for. The beer selection is solid, the atmosphere is easy and sociable, and the casual dining menu means you can eat without having to move to a different room. When the weather is generous, the spacious beer garden extends the evening outdoors, with the kind of light that lingers on a Welsh summer evening in a way that makes you reluctant to call it a night.

The owners and their family were lounging around in the hotel reception on the Saturday night where there was a TV so it was difficult to watch the Champions League final , there was no effort from them to put guests first. The food first night was lovely but the second we all had some snack samosas and all 4 of us had stomach issues that night and the next day. I am still suffering 2 days later.

The holiday was a gift so I didn't choose the hotel but it was perfect for our needs.Wr ate dinner there which was lovely and we spent an hour in the bar afterwards which was quite lively. My only drawback would be that the water in the room was not hot enough. We both had cool showers which was ok as it was a lovely sunny day

This hotel was really good value with spacious single rooms, en-suite facilities in a central location to play our chosen courses. The food was really nice and service quick - we would certainly use again. Single room required a nominal surcharge - worth every penny! Can I just add that the YourGolfTravel staff Angus & Karen were really informative and arranged the accommodation and games really well - good communications, value for money, free dozen high quality golf balls for us to lose asap - can say no more!
