Tucked away in the majestic Vale of Avoca is the Woodenbridge Golf Club, which is a true treasure of a golf course that must be seen to be fully appreciated. Founded in 1884, the course is carved around the Avoca and Aughrim Rivers, which converge in the midst of the back nine, and is an astounding feat of golf architecture.

Woodenbridge has remained under the radar of most golfers who visit Ireland's east coast, but while the great names around Dublin and County Kildare attract the lion's share of the attention, this Wicklow gem is an undiscovered delight.
The par 72 layout is a serious challenge, even for highly skilled players, but the beauty of Woodenbridge is that it can be enjoyed equally by the average golfer. Dubbed ‘Ireland's Augusta', the course was formed into a full 18-hole layout in 1994, but the two halves gelled instantly to form an astonishing course.
Into Ireland's golfing landscape are tucked some extraordinary hidden gems, and if you delve deep the results can be astonishing. Woodenbridge is the perfect example of heading off the beaten path to find a real golfing delight in Co. Wikclow.

A friend said that if there was one course in Ireland that he could retire to it would be this one, while I wouldn't go that far,it is a beautiful gem,set in a valley, surrounded by trees, and even if your golf is poor the beauty will ease the pain. It's mostly flat which is easy for the older golfer. Some lovely holes over water. The greens are very challenging. Delighted to have played it and hope to return.
