1 Night, 2 Rounds
- 1 Night Bed and Breakfast at Woodenbridge Hotel and Lodge
- 1 Round at Woodenbridge Golf Club
- 1 Round at Wicklow Golf Club
1 Night, 2 Rounds
Tucked into the Vale of Avoca, Woodenbridge Hotel & Lodge is a quietly scenic base for a Wicklow and Dublin golf break. You're in proper countryside here, with the River Aughrim running close by, but you can still dip into Dublin for a night out if your group fancies swapping fairways for a few pints.
The big draw is the location for golf. Woodenbridge Golf Club is right next door, which makes early tee times painless, and you've got a strong shortlist of headline courses within touring distance. Druids Glen is an easy run from here, and Dublin heavy-hitters like The K Club and Portmarnock Links are very doable for a day trip. If you're building a multi-course itinerary around Wicklow and the capital, it works well as a relaxed hub where you can play, eat well and reset for the next day.
Off the course, there's plenty to keep non-golfers (or the "I'll-play-three-rounds-not-four" crowd) happy. The valley scenery is the kind you'll actually notice, even after 18 holes, and there's fishing on the River Aughrim or nearby at Lough Dan if you want a change of pace between rounds. The setting is genuinely beautiful, all rolling hills and river valleys, and it feels like you're properly away from it all without being stranded.
If you're after a golf tour of Wicklow that feels authentically Irish, without being miles from the action, Woodenbridge is a very safe bet.

Who is it best for?

The Woodenbridge Hotel has 29 comfortable en suite rooms with TV, direct dial telephone, complimentary Wi-Fi and tea and coffee facilities. A dozen rooms come with private balconies, which are well worth requesting if you want a quiet spot for a post-round drink overlooking the valley. The rooms are cosy rather than flashy, well appointed and designed for golfers who want a good night's sleep and a proper base rather than resort-style frills.
Next door, Woodenbridge Lodge sits beside the River Aughrim and offers the same core comforts in a slightly more tucked-away setting. If you're travelling as a group, splitting rooms between the hotel and lodge can work nicely, especially if some of you prefer an earlier night while others are making the most of the bar. It's ideal if you're after a bit more privacy or prefer to be a step removed from the main hotel's activity.
Food and drink are a key part of the appeal here. The Four Vales Bar is the social hub, serving hearty bar food from lunchtime onwards, with a friendly mix of golfers and locals. In summer, live music adds to the atmosphere and, yes, you'll find a bit of Irish craic if you time it right. It's the natural spot to settle in after a morning round at Woodenbridge, and the kind of place where you can linger over a pint without feeling rushed.
For dinner, the Redmond Restaurant offers a more formal option and has held AA Rosettes every year since 1995. Expect a confident blend of contemporary plates and Irish classics, ideal for rounding off a day when you've earned something a bit better than a quick burger. The food is genuinely good, the kind of dining experience that makes you glad you're staying on-site rather than driving somewhere else.
If you want to mix in something different between rounds, fishing on the River Aughrim or a trip to Lough Dan are both within reach, and the scenery is exactly what you came to Wicklow for. It's a genuine all-round Irish escape, built around quality golf but offering plenty more if you want to explore.

We have traveled many times as a group but this was the first time to leave mainland Britain. It would be fair to say that this was without doubt in my experience the best trip ever. Everyone we came into contact with was amazing, the hotel, it’s staff and the food were super, the golf course at Wooden Bridge is feature after feature with tricky greens and an wonderful river running through and around it. Would we go back? Absolutely!! Arklow Golf Links too was a fabulous golf course making the whole trip one that will live long in the memory.
