Bowood Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort - Wiltshire

Top quality resort, cannot fault all the facilities, well worth a visit.

Always a pleasure staying at Bowood the staff are so friendly and always attentive and helpful.

A really nice hotel & spa with a nice golf course. I chose it because it was conveniently located for people travelling from the South West & South East.

Hotel overall good but evening dining experience poor - service, side dishes missed, filet steak had to be sent back. However very good remedial action - items taken off bill and complimentary drinks offered

Good hotel; could be a lot better with a more joined-up approach between departments and better staff training. Food was good, service was frantic. Golf course in summer / dry weather would be very good; after or during wet weather, best to avoid. Spa is a bit of an afterthought given the size of the hotel. Overall, a great setting, not a bad hotel, just felt a little short-changed

Excellent service above and beyond we were treated like royalty. There was nothing they could not do to help. They stored our golf clubs in a drying room and our overnight bags whilst we played golf on the first day. We were albe to check in prior to playing albeit the rooms were not available so early to give us more time after our golf game. Spa facilites excellent and the ladies who didnt play one day were taken to Bowood House to do a tour.

It was excellent. Very clean. Very helpful staff and amenities were very good. We enjoyed it all.

Excellent trip, loved the hotel and course. Only slight disappointment was the food.

Probably 4 and a half stars, only glitch is the incredibly slow service in the main restaurant when more than half full. On one occasion we waited over 50 minutes before even a basket of bread arrived. There is no buffet breakfast for cold items (all waited service) so be prepared to get there early or you might miss your tee time. Expensive but almost worth it.

Being 20 golfers we were never going to be quiet however we were not overly noisy or rowdy but we were told to quieten down within a very noisy restaurant which we all thought was unnecessary as we had to raise voices to be heard. Apart from that the ambiance was very good. The rooms were excellent and the facilities outstanding.

From the moment we arrived at the very impressive grounds we were delighted. The staff were excellent, with a warm greeting, and the rooms were superb. The food which was included in the price was way beyond what we were expecting. A very good choice and extremely good. facilities were great and I'm delighted we found Bowood!

Excellent hotel not matched by the quality of information from your golf travel about the course being under maintenance with half the course out of action.

The hotel was lovely and extremely well managed in this very difficult COVID time. We had a really memorably stay and and those golf players in our group enjoyed the golf. We were lucky with the weather. Well done Bowood!

Bowood is an excellent location, fabulous golf course, wonderful staff (in every area of the resort) and comfortable rooms. I would highly recommend this hotel and golf resort. We didn't visit the spa. (Travelled as 2 golfing couples).

We were upgraded so the rooms were large and very nicely appointed the food and service were excellent which made our stay very pleasant

Amazing golf course all ready for the PGA event, staff were so welcoming even the lady and man in the halfway hut. Good food choice and lovely room. The spa area and pool were also great lovely to get an early morning swim in. Very obliging also with an earlier tee time , the course was surprisingly quiet.

Room was great, a lot of our food wasn’t very hot - cold asparagus and egg starter ( no one even checked us ), cold steak for main which was sorted out and then not very hot breakfast !! The bar gents were amazing and were very helpful and knowledgeable, restaurant weren’t horrible or rude just look like they definitely need training. I had no tv remote in my room - again they were trying to sort out. I had to wait half an hour but it still didn’t work ( I just had to turn the tv over manually) , but just expect a bit More really to be honest.

Have to say that the one let down of the trip was the food. Chef was unable to cook a simple steak rare. I sent it back and the waitress returned it saying that this was as rare as the chef could get it...seemed very odd as it was clearly medium rare / medium. Order an accompanying peppercorn sauce and it was without doubt the worst sauce I have ever had. No flavour and basically the consistency of water. Very poor. Breakfast in the morning also a let down. All items stone cold. disappointing to say the least

A wonderful golf course in excellent condition despite the weather experienced in recent months. A lot of fairway bunkers made the course particularly hard in places.

Blessed with fabulous weather the course was in amazing condition. There were many pitch marks on some greens probably due to dry weather and neglect on players part to repair. Overall fantastic

A good course; challenging enough for lower handicap golfers but not too hard for the high handicap golfers.

All OK apart from admin error on buggies day 3. Had to involve hotel duty manager and Head of Golf to resolve. However was finally sorted

Got stuck behind 2x 4 ball matches that didn't reach a result until the 18th so very slow.

Generally a good test. Greens are well kept and mostly consistent. Course was waterlogged and annoyingly lost a few balls plugged somewhere in fairways. Rough needs thinning out; anything not on the fairway / green is almost always a lost ball. In dry weather / summer, would play very well, and take no prisoners. After prolonged rain / during winter, it’s a slog and best avoided. Apparently no management of handicaps - the course is set up for PGA competitions, yet many 4-balls ahead of us were hacking around in 4.5-5 hours, with general golfing etiquette to match - we waited a lot….great setting though, sure a 2-ball twilight, mid-week in summer would be lovely

Everything about it was quality, great test of golf , if you’re not on your game it is difficult. It tests every part of your game.. loved it .

Absolutely superb golf course. We played from the white tees, which is a real test of your golf skills. Will definitely be going back.

Excellent service from the pro shop delivered all the buggies to the hotel for us.. With our personal team name on each fully kitted out with towels water and spare tees ...Rojer Bully from the pro shop was so attentive even giving us some tips on the first tee about the course.Highly reccommend this resort.

We found it a long course and the first round took longer - but this was because we let others through. It was a pleasant course and you needed to be accurate. A challenge.

Lovely course, fantastic scenery, good condition and weather!

Unfortunately the course had been scorched by our summer. Needs time to recover, and a lot of work to bring back to condition it was before 3 months of no rain

Amazing course. Greens and Fairways, not at their best though.

August 2022. 33 degrees, so bone dry. Greens (and some bunkers) well watered and medium pace. Course is championship standard, the bunkers are plentiful and challenging.

This is a very challenging course but in great condition. For tired legs the 15th seems like a par 6, and then the climb to the ladies’ tee on the 16th is a shock to the system! But we love the course and look forward to playing it again.

excellent from the starter on the first through to the staff in the 19th. Really good value, cant wait to go again, would probably play this course twice given the option.

Due to the wet weather during the previous 2 days the course played long. But the greens putted very true.

We played the course twice and were very impressed. The condition of the course was great and there are some very good holes. The slope rating was accurate. All in all a very enjoyable experience and we will be back.

Had to ring to make sure they were available,found out only 2 had been booked,luckily they were able to save us 2more.

It would have been nice to know that no greens were in operation as the course was under maintenance, especially as we had to pay the highest fee to book the dates. Very disappointed in the service from your golf travel and will not be booking with them again. It was a quick round as no one else was on the course as it was not worth playing in the rain.

The only negative comment is the signage on the course especially concerning ladies tees and directions from green to tee.

Plenty of interest and options for length on the course. Good mix of elevation, water and isolated fairways. Greens are grainy (but true) which made them more tricky. Course guide a must given bunkering, doglegs and elevation changes.

Played 3 rounds. Second round was very slow but others were fine.

The course was in wonderful condition, aesthetically pleasing and enjoyable to play. The fareways are wide enough to be forgiving but beware of the bunkers protecting greens! We had a great time.

We all enjoyed the setting and quality of the course,I personally played well which makes the difficulty of the course seem easier! I must compliment Roger the starter who relaxed us with course info and sorted the buggies out for us. Also a special mention to the halfway house staff and that facility was very good. We will visit again I’m sure.

As fairly inexperienced golfers we found the course very challenging due to the number of hazards (particularly bunkers) and the length of the holes. However, it was an enjoyable challenge. The course is in fantastic condition and in a spectacular setting. Would recommend to anyone.

We played towards the end of Jan so the course was a little wet in places but perfectly playable. Bowood is a great track, some really lovely holes. It was playing very long due to the lack of run so if you are not a long hitter and play it in the winter be prepared to be hitting in rescues or long irons to most of the greens. It has without doubt the best positioned bunkers of any course I have played. You really need to drive the ball long and straight to avoid them. Rough was not too punishing but they tell me in the summer it is knee high. All in all a great course and we all agreed that we would like to return in the summer to test ourselves again when the course will have a bit of bounce on the fairways and hopefully the sun will be on our back
