- 1 round at Roman Road Course (Roman Road Course at Celtic Manor) or Montgomerie Course (Montgomerie Course at Celtic Manor)
One of the few golf resorts in the UK to boast three championship golf courses, Celtic Manor offers golfers an experience they will remember. Catapulted into the spotlight by the Ryder Cup in 2010, Celtic Manor has been a favourite among UK golfers ever since, the phenomenal accommodation and facilities adding to the allure. The three courses are, of course, headlined by The Twenty Ten following Europe's heroic victory in intense conditions, however, the Roman Road and Montgomerie are great courses in their own right.
Located just outside of Newport, surrounded by the rolling Welsh hills, Celtic Manor can be easily accessed by golfers across the UK. For accommodation, the Manor House is the perfect option for those who don’t need the extravagance of the main Resort Hotel but still wish to be within a short walk of all the facilities, restaurants and bars. The 19th-century property is gorgeous inside and out, with its own options for drinking and dining, including the Cellar Bar, a lively sports bar popular with groups.
Celtic Manor prides itself on being able to accommodate the needs of every guest and group; check out the Resort Hotel, Coldra Court and The Hunter Lodges for other fantastic accommodation options.

As the first course to be purpose built for the Ryder Cup, the Twenty Ten was under some pressure when the world’s best players arrived to do battle in late 2010 but with great variety and countless risk vs. reward holes throughout the course, it certainly lived up to its billing and is now seen as one of the best and most entertaining courses in the UK. With Ryder Cup mementos at every turn and a ‘member for the day’ experience that includes a personalised bag tag and post-round club cleaning, a day at the Twenty Ten at Celtic Manor is a really fun experience and a must for any golfing aficionado.
Designed by Robert Trent Jones Senior, the Roman Road Course was the first built at Celtic Manor and has been thrilling visiting golfers since opening for play in 1995. From the tips the Roman Road Course stretches to about 6,600 yards which is enough to test even the most experienced golfers and with forward tees that bring the yardage to a more manageable 6,000 yards, the higher handicapped golfer can also enjoy the challenge. The course is American in design with large bunkers and the odd expanse of water providing much of the challenge and with a fantastic variety of holes, some of which take you right past the imposing Resort Hotel, all aspects of your game will be tested.
Colin Montgomerie’s name will of course forever be associated with Celtic Manor following his team’s famous victory at the 2010 Ryder Cup but his association with the resort began long before then when he designed his championship layout that has become one of the best resort courses in the UK. Like the Roman Road, Montgomerie’s course scales its fair share of hills so taking a buggy is advised. With deep, links-inspired bunkers and plenty of elevated tees shots, not to mention the exciting par 5 3rd which drops away in front of your eyes into the Usk Valley, the Montgomerie is a golfing thrill ride from start to finish.
Since the early 1980s, The Manor House at Celtic Manor Resort has been recognised as one of Wales' finest places to stay and was awarded Egon Ronay's top prize for five consecutive years. The 70 guest rooms and suites have retained the character of the 19th-century property itself, which sits amidst beautifully manicured gardens.
Inside the Manor, guests can choose to drink or dine in The Patio Restaurant, the Cellar Bar or Hedley's, the Manor Bar. The Cellar Bar is a particularly popular sports bar with groups, showing a host of live sporting events.
Guests of the Manor House have access to the resort’s fantastic array of facilities. For the ultimate way to relax and unwind, head to the Forum Health Club and Spa, offering the some of the best luxury treatments in Wales.
As well as the swimming pool, there are saunas, jacuzzis, plunge pools and steam rooms, whilst the state of the art gym boasts 54 workstations and a dance studio. Treat yourself to a hot stone massage or an exotic Rasul Mud Ritual in the Forum Spa, an award-winning facility that attracts guests to the resort itself.

Facilities good. Vfm certainly not, booked half board, but you have to pay an additional £10 per head food supplement and you have to convince the staff you are half board, even though I have proof of half board and then eventually staff acknowledge this after a 30 min wait , only to be billed for dining at the restaurant!!!! Felt we were being ripped off constantly.

The buildings are dated and not looked after in areas. The service provided to get you from accommodation to the golf course is limited, we nearly missed our tee time because the shuttle bus didn't turn up. The staff tried adding a gratuity charge to our rooms even though we already tipped, this was VERY sneaky and lucky we spotted this, I can imagine many people don't spot this. Everything on resort is overpriced, £8 for a pint and £3.50 for a bottle of water, £2.50 for a snickers! Taking the Mick. I wouldn't recommend Celtic Manor any more and won't go again. On the plus side the courses are good despite all the walking between holes on the Montgomerie

Rooms dated and need refurbished. Shower leaked and flooded bathroom. Food in cellar bar very poor No choice, you had either pizza (with strange toppings) or nothing One Barman who had to keep going upstairs to other bar for lemonade as soft drinks dispenser not working.

Overall this was a brilliant place to stay and has everything you need, a very large site which can get complicated to find your way around, they also take a deposit from your bank account when you check in. dinner bookings were all a bit messy they had booked me in for a date i wasn't staying and then there was no availability at the place we wanted to eat.

Nice hotel, looks a little tired and in need of some tlc. Car parking it’s crazy, expensive and you have walk some distance to get to your car unless you wish to wait an age for a lift. Paying for car parking at a hotel your staying at is not cool Breakfast was terrible, ran out of choices and it was cold.

Lovely place, all the bars and restaurants are over in the main building which fine as there is an excellent link between the two areas a mere 5 minutes walk. My only gripe is the cost of parking. Not many places you stay at where you pay for overnight parking as well. Given there is nowhere else you can realistically park it feels like they are taking advantage big time.

The Manor House Hotel felt like a derelict, soulless place with very few staff around and not many guests. We actually thought it was closed when we first arrived. Misinformation regarding need to book breakfast and impossible to book dinner using the app, which seemed to be the preferred option. Hugely disappointing.

When originally booking the golfing break I expected to be in the main hotel which I had stayed in before but was happy to accept the Manor as I thought it would be of the same standard. WRONG. The room was of a poor standard, food and drink unavailable and a 10-15min walk to the resort hotel. At the age of 76 and not in the best of health this was not an option. Sorry but you won’t be seeing me again at the Manor.

✓12 May 2022
The hotel and resort were very good. However a number of things were disappointing.... - the lack of food options after golf (5.45 on a Saturday and we couldn't get a burger anywhere) - check in was a chore, as was booking breakfast - expensive golf buggies with the leather torn on the seats of half of them - rude staff in certain areas from main reception to halfway house on course We felt that in the main hotel, there was far more concern for corporate guests, than golfers.

First time to this hotel, might of been different from before pandemic but the lack of staff is noticeably. Room not ready until 16:30 is ridiculous! Only having a bar in the main hotel that you can’t be served at unless you have a table is madness, even when you get a table they have no clue who is next, table service is a lottery. 40 minutes to get a drink!!
Oliver
✓10 Apr 2022
The hotel was fine but we specifically booked the night away so we could watch the first day of the masters in the evening. There was one small to in the Grill restaurant (17 inch) and no other place on the whole resort was showing it which is mind blowing. The staff didn’t seem to know the masters was on or care

Ordered a double but got a twin, seeing I’ve not slept in a single bed for nearly 35 years it wasn’t comfortable. Shower had no power whatsoever. Distance from lobby of the hotel to the room was ridiculous carrying clubs and luggage. I know you can’t control the weather but the course was totally unplayable, £38 for a buggy is totally overpriced as you can’t leave the paths so they were totally useless I walked further with a buggy than if I’d taken my trolley. My golf partner’s room leaked from the roof all over his clothes so we couldn’t play on day 2 of our trip which considering the amount of rain we had would have been pointless.

Our experience over the 2 days was excellent. The weather was very good the food once again was outstanding. On the downside though it took an age to check in as the hotel could not find all the names of our party in particular those who were sharing rooms as according to them only one name per room had been sent. Also it would have been useful to know in advance some of the changes that had taken place due to the pandemic ie the restaurant by the pro shop not open for breakfast, no longer storing clubs and trollies overnight, the cellar bar closed no happy hour

Communication with Your golf travel took a long time to finally get through, asked about the need to pre book breakfast and told not to worry, then told upon arrival that we should have pre booked!!! Our room was clean, but the hotel staff were not the most helpful. The breakfast staff didn’t supply us with any spoons and when asked for some it was like we were asking for something special! There was complications ordering a taxi so took too long on first night had to get room service which consisted of a very over priced boring pizza. Following night had a taxi which charged us £9.10 to go half a mile Outrageous! Clearly a taxi firm affiliated with the resort! Ate at Beefeater, nice meal very reasonable prices and very nice staff. Also couldn’t amend tee times at all.

This place is amazing and had everything, most staf are very helpful. There are loads of restaurants and bars and the rooms are excellent. The only bad thing would be the prices. Its very expensive for drinks and is like being in the centre of London. 4 drinks cost me £25, so I'd highly recommend drinking and eating in one of the near by towns rather than here

In room 112. Dated, tired and looked my Nan's house in 1985. I was expecting Derrick Accora to jump out the wardrobe at any minute. It might have been a 4* in 1985, certainly not now. Premier Inn is cleaner, more modern and functional. Shame!!! It needs a refurb. Stayed with my wife in January the room was better but still tired

Hotel was fine (once they corrected the beds to make them two singles as we were a group of men). Last time we stayed there, parked in open-air free car park which is now a building site. You have to park in the main underground car park for £15 which I thought was excessive and quite a trek from the hotel.

Rooms in the Manor House not up to it anymore. Shower pressure almost non existent and in one of our rooms the water stopped altogether leaving my father in law covered in soap and his head in shampoo. Not good while in your 70’s. Breakfast was ok. Lift and lift lobby area on our floor very tired and scruffy.

Just back from a fantastic stay at Celtic Manor, we stayed in one of the lodges on site which are spectacular, the lodge has four great sized rooms, and an amazing area for sitting around for dinner and in the evening. We made full use of the hot tub and steam room in the lodge to relax after the golf. The lodges overlook the Twenty Ten course which is a great view. I can’t speak highly enough of the lodges and am already planning to go back.

Golfing fiasco! Just returned from an overnight family break booked with yourgolftravel .com. We have stayed at the main hotel several times and also in the Hunter Lodges. We were staying at the manor house this time which is a little tired decorative wise but rooms service, breakfast all fine. My husband and son were booked to play golf on the 2010 the first day and the Roman Road the following day. All fine until they turned up for their round at the Roman Road course. The day before, as they came off the 2010 course, the staff offered to clean their clubs and deliver them to the Roman Road ready for the next day. Service you would expect from an establishment like Celtic Manor. My husband said they were even attaching the red label to his clubs whilst they were still on his back as he was walking in. Fab! Next morning they turn up at the Roman Road course 20 minutes before their tee off time and not the recommended 30 minutes, naughty naughty, but they were relaxed in the knowledge that their clubs would be waiting for them only NO GOLF CLUBS. Obviously the staff had to do a bit of chasing about to locate their clubs which meant they missed their tee off time. This was sorted but they were chastised by a staff member in white t-shirt with white hair who told them "well you should have got here sooner". The clubs duly turned up via shuttle bus with the driver removing them from the bus saying "well we weren't sure which course you were playing". So there was no explanation and no apology. The clubs weren't cleaned and the tags had been removed bizzarely!! My husband and son aren't the type to complain and I think in the moment they were just relieved to see their clubs safe and sound but on reflection after their round they quite rightly felt annoyed about the whole incident.
