Roman Road Course at Celtic Manor

The course was water logged as it had rained the day before.

Not as hilly as the Montgomery course but still a good challenge. On the day the weather conditions were against us with some heavy downpours but this has to be expected for mid-October. Again the group enjoyed the course and would like to return in the summer.

A very undulating course with a lot of blind tee shots required, take that ways and it’s a very challenging course, same as the 2010 it had been aerated and top dressed but it didn’t spoil the enjoyment Again the price of buggies were £55 a round

Lovely setting and views trouble ball is always above your feet or below so makes it very challenging and very tiring as plenty hills

The Roman road presents a real challenge, but not impossible even for a 21 handicapper like me. The fairways are generous enough, but accuracy is the key. The greens, however are the real challenge!

3rd time playing this course in great condition. Fairways very green at moment getting little soft underfoot. Fair few mud balls. Greens still very firm and running fairly fast.

Took 5 hours and 20 mins not great with no one out on the course keeping play moving also looked like there was a lot of mo golfers on the course which wasn’t great to wait behind

Very similar to Montgomerie Greens outstanding some bunkers needed attention but overall a brilliant experience.

Little bit easier than the 2010 more chances but some big elevation holes so it really does make you think.

Great golf course with a lot of blind holes which makes it tricky if you have never played their before. The greens were superb. The only issue was very slow play with 18 holes taking 5 and a half hours, due to having to wait.

No Marshalls to make sure play wasn’t slow, had a 2 ball that jumped in front of us on an already slow round after being at the half way house for a few hours and fairways scorched but the course was still in very good condition.

Also a beautiful course. Greens where perfect just fairways needed watering.

Not as fiery as the Montgomerie. However some drainage work taking place. Whilst I understand why, it would have been nice to be advised of this prior to arrival

Need to play again to have a feel for the blind shots and slopes. More suited to the average golfer but still challenging and easier to walk round Greens fabulous

Course and greens where nice..took just over 6 hours to go round.we go on alot of golf trips...but Think it's really bad and alot of other 4 balls was mad. we paid £55 for a buggy witch Is alot of money then on the first tee we get told gotta stick to the paths.crazy!! bone dry the courses are in 25+ degrees mid summer holidays..for this reason we won't be playing here again.

A great experience on this course the only downside is using a buggy which you have to stay to the paths can slow you up as if you take the wrong club it’s a trek back to the buggy or you have to carry 3 or 4 clubs to your ball

Greens were in good condition. The fairways were patchy and the bunkers were full of stones and had very little sand in most of them. Very underpar for the price

More manageable than the 2010, still a great track - very enjoyable, beautiful greens which were super true. Lots of memorable holes. Really lovely golf course.

Fabulous greens, fairways were hard due to dry weather, it is a difficult course which tests your golf to the limit, but a fantastic experience. Definitely recommend hiring a buggy.

Not as good as the other two courses but still worth a go. Some great holes and some average ones. Easiest of the three courses.

You need a buggy

Some of the flag positions were very hard (on ridges) especially with the speed of the greens

Excellent course although the green keeper put a number of flags on slopes that were not possible to put to as the ball would run back off the green at times so that was disappointing for a resort golf that has a number of not so good golfers

Again the round taken way to long took nearly 6 hours again, which meant we missed our booking in the hotel restaurant for food so had to change all of our plans

A lot of the group enjoyed this course the most.

Had a bad experience going from 10 minutes a hole to 25 minutes a hole so we walked off after 9. Also driving range is far from pro shop it needs to be signposted staff very friendly though

I’m not quite sure why even in the dead of summer we still have the keep the carts on the path. It took a bit of fun out of the weekend but not enough to ruin it

A good Challenge and fast greens

Roman course was in pristine condition! Greens were unreal and the fairways like carpets. It was like that on all the courses! Greenkeepers take proper care and pride in all 3 courses which is nice to see and by the looks of it treat them all the same with care and attention like the 2010 course.

Very attentive Staff who make you feel very comfortable on arrival and there is always a staff member available to answer any questions or help with any concerns.The club house is great and has great food and drink to match and its just what you expect and hope for.The facilities in the club house are top notch and the club shop has everything you need. As for the course its a great test for any standard of golfer and the greens take it to a different level, very quick and a proper test of your judgement, so make sure you use the putting green before playing. The only negative is that all buggies have to stick to the cart paths which does make the round a little slower. But overall for a group of 24 golfers its a great course with top draw facilities. Loved it!

Pace of play on these courses ruins the whole experience. Roman road was 5 hours 30 mins, they over pack the courses so much there’s 2 to 3 groups waiting in every tee box, also the cart path only rule for buggies slows down players massively. I wouldn’t return to this venue as 5 hours 30 mins to far too long to be playing a round, especially when you’re waiting ages to play every shot.

Really poor experience, card states max round time of 4.45hrs, slow play will require groups to skip holes etc. My round took over 6 hours due to a society day in front, some groups over 3 holes behind as informed by the Marshall on course who did nothing to amend the issue. Ruined the experience at the end of a very hot day, maybe a drinks buggy could have been sent round as we all sat on tee boxes waiting to go.

My one criticism was the slowness. It was 5 hours 10 minutes and we were constantly queuing behind the group in front. Having buggies on cart paths only doesn't work for those of us who were walking as people were constantly zigzagging back and forth to their balls.

More forgiving than the Montgomerie course. Not as hilly but quite a bit of elevation and descent. Greens were great although birds had had a go a quite a few of them. Not much to be done about that. Overall excellent.

Really enjoyed this round found it alot easier than the Montgomerie and even won a free round entering a par 3 competition on the course!!

The Roman road course was a fantastic course to play and was in top condition, thanks to the ground staff working tirelessly throughout the day. The round was slower than im used to but is to be expected at a busy time of year and didn’t impact my experience (we weren’t in any rush to get off the course). The greens were immaculate and the nice weather played its part. The course is definitely more difficult than a lot that I play regularly but is still suitable for all levels of golfer. I’ll definitely be back!

Once again trying to Pair members with groups Wasn't happening, refused. They said its because the time slot is always for 4 ppl

Great course but round ruined by slow play. The refreshment buggy was seen but unfortunately No course marshallers seen. We did raise this point a couple of times but no action taken. Course was in good condition, greens were very challenging and a good speed.

This was out favourite course at Celtic Manor. Greens were in good condition and some challenging pin positions.It can get compact in places so keep an eye out for stray balls! Had a great time on both courses and everyone said they would come back to play again which is a good sign as we live nearly 4 hours away.

Much better than Montgomery. The last 3 holes seem out of place. Overall a more enjoyable round for the average golfer.

Great course, really slopey greens which made putting tough but a great course nevertheless.

The course was in quit a poor condition for the time of year and if we had known, infer we would have avoided the complex. I understand the greens have to be prepared for the season and I understand we haven had much rain in the previous weeks. But the greens had sprinkler systems around them that clearly hadn’t been used. The mad the greens over difficult and you couldn’t control your ball on second shots.

Roman Road easier of the two we played & we all enjoyed. The front 9 are pretty easy but the back 9 challenging. Greens again dressed but overall great value for the cost we paid

Some really brilliant holes on this course, it doesn't look much as you drive in but it was a great challenge and completely different from the 2010 course.

It was an amazing experience. The weather was cloudy and windy on the day so that may affect my rating. Got the halfway house at 2pm and they ran out of everything and it was £7 for a small beer. Bit expensive but besides from that - It was amazing (so the beer was worth it ahaha) Would go again.

Only given the greens 3 because had been spiked. Course actually very good condition for November. Mud but no real soggy bits .

The course was basically unplayable , there had been some rain in the morning but the fairways were like rivers and greens like ponds. We quit after 9 holes as it wasn't an enjoyable experience. For a resort that charges a lot of money for rounds/ packages we expected the drainage to be better.

Considering the heavy rains we had beforehand the greeens were soft a lightening fast. Bunkers were water logged. 5hrs 45 mins to get round. Long walks from some of the greens to your next tee

Greens very good fairway very poor.

Having played the Twenty Ten course the day before in high winds and rain, the conditions were a lot calmer. The course is a lot more open and forgiving which allowed for better scoring. Lots of beautiful scenery, really nice holes from either elevated tees or elevated greens. Scoring was a lot better on this course and would definitely go back.

Great course I thoroughly enjoyed the bourse greens were really fast and tricky again I would definitely recommend. Very good value for money.

2nd time I have played here. Always a very slow round as they always cram in 4 balls.

Due to the weather forecast we were able to change our tee time,the earlier time allowed us to follow the the members and we finished before the heavy rains

Very enjoyable round, the course was in great condition, the greens were lighting fast, which was a challenge. Which resulted in more laughing than saying good putt well played.

Only four and a half hours to get round. This course probably more like a "normal" course but a few tough holes. A couple of holes run along the access road which disrupts play a little. Maybe because we played this course after the 2010 and the Monty we were a bit more warmed up so had better rounds.

The facilities for the Roman Road course are still impressive, but seemed a bit lacking having been treated to the royalty of the 2010 the day prior. The more gentle of the three on site courses, but still an incredible test of golf. The 7th, with the back shelf pin position, was unplayable to anything left short of the pin on the second or third shots, due to the speed of the greens. Plenty of de-greening between the group, but more open to feel free to let the driver rip a bit more than the 2010 and the Monty. Superb value for money and a great way to start or end your golfing experience at Celtic Manor.

The course was really good, bit soggy still in.places. surprisingly hilly, quite a walk. Greens really fast. Very undulating. The starter was very chatty. Had good laugh with him. Took time to make us very welcome.

Excellent course overall, slightly slow, but not unexpected for this resort course. Minor confusion on tee time.

Greens were brilliant. Fairways need some attention but this maybe to do with the weather we’ve had. Didn’t like that the buggies had to stick to the paths.

Slow play, but overall a very nice course and cheaper then the other 2 on site.

Want a refund

This was our second day of playing (played Monty day 1 which was in poor shape). Ground staff managed to get the mowers on the course so there was much better definition between rough and fairway. While the greens were in great shape the fairways were still very boggy resulting in zero carry from drives and multiple lost balls through plugging.

Wasn't able to play due to conditions. Didn't want to give a poor rating so put all 4s. Visually looked good from the clubhouse. Flatter than Montgomery course.

Playing conditions almost unplayable due to weather. But the team at the pro shop recognised this and made some nice gestures to compesate. James was great and helped out.

Sorry guys, the Celtic Manor courses are to be avoided in the winter. In one of the highest rainfall areas of the UK, the courses have been built on a clay base with no drainage ditches on the fairways, despite being part of the Celtic Manor Resort which requires that the courses are open regardless of the weather. You know that after you have hit your opening shot on the first, slightly offside of the fairway in what was good looking grass, to find your ball had imbedded itself angled in rather than just plugged and looking back across at your partner in the centre of the fairway with soft ground / water over her laces in her shoes, trying to hack the ball out with a big chunk of mud every shot, that this wasn't going to be a great round. We played the second, looked ahead to see none of the players ahead on the third, I guess they all did what we did and walked back to the clubhouse. Really poor guys, these courses are badly in need of investment of drainage ditchs to be considered worthy if you want to play them at all in the winter months.The Pro and managers all agreed that the courses shouldn't be open but are obliged by their partnership with the Celtic Manor Resort to be open 365 days a year. Will we get our money back, I would doubt it, we were offered another freebie winter round as compensation but who will pay the travel costs to get there ?

Complete waste of time. All 3 courses were so wet they were completely unplayable. Should have been closed but remained open so refunds didn’t have to be given obviously. Gave up after 3 holes

Great course, played this on the dryest day we had, good weather. Greens were immaculate considering, fairways were sludgy in places, but we got round really quickly. Great course.

We had 50 mph winds and driving rain for most of the round but it played well except for bunkers which were sodden. A tough course.

Roman Road exceeded our expectations. Where as we went into 2010 expecting the wow factor, this one was a very nice compliment. Long in places and not as open (more trees, less water!), but challenged you particularly with some of the complex green and up and down nature of some holes. I had arguably more fun. I'd recommend playing this particularly if you have 18+ HCPs in your group.

Much better than the Montgomery

Well, where do I start? It seems hot summer conditions confuse Welsh grounds keepers. The greens were okay and quicker than the Monty, the fairways hard, bumpy and like concrete (good luck getting a club under the ball), all of the bunkers were clay with no sand, and likely to damage your wrists, your clubs or both. Play was glacially slow and we heard from the group in front that the players in front of them were, to a man, all drunk even before they teed of at 11.30am, which clearly contributed (why did the resort staff not step in and refuse to allow them to play?). We gave up after 12 holes, disappointed and frustated. Venue seems more keen to take money off you (55 quid for a buggy!) and get as many out on the course at a time (in whatever condition) than to provide a great golfing experience. Nice bite to eat on the clubhouse patio afterwards, though!

General condition of course was excellent, some greens had been attacked by the local crows with severe peck marks on them. Round was very slow, however the course Marshall did give the group holding everyone up a bit of a Gee up and the pace of play improved for the back nine.

As with the above very poor course maintenance - One other item that was very bad was the ruling on buggies basically you were not allowed to take the buggy off the roads around the courses - which was & is totally stupid - reason's 1) you'd be walking a further distance to the ball from the buggy than you hit your golf ball ! 2) you would have to carry 3 to four clubs every time to ensure you had the club you needed and avoided slow play for the golfers behind 3) you get to see or experience the course layout and views which is the only thing going for Celtic Manor - Crazy

Great course but found the 2010 better which is expected. As per comments on 2010, there could be more ball cleaning stations given the wet/muddy conditions at times.

over 5 hours, course was soaking wet and muddy, no buggies on the fairways, i know you cannot control the weather but buggies not being allowed on the fairways just made it so slow, sometimes people were walking 100 yards to their ball.

Weather was awful persistent rain which made the course very boggy and difficult so unfair to judge but some lovely holes which on a better day would have been fun to play

Soft, but not wet, conditions meant no run and so long par 4s became even longer.

It was unplayable - I don't think losing your ball in the middle of the fairway because it had gone underground is acceptable! How come every other course in the area (which had exactly the same amount of rain) was either shut or was in substantially better condition? the fairways hadn't been cut either, so across a lot of the course it was impossible to tell the difference between fairway and rough. Celtic Manor seem more interested in their profits it appears - £55 for a buggy as well, really?!?!

The golf course was in terrible condition and should have been closed, it was like a bog and far too wet!.. I’ve played it before and it was great but it was borderline non playable this weekend

It was very very wet but it is mid March and so no surprise. Greens however were in great condition considering. Not the hardest of courses for 12, 15, 16 and 18 handicappers but still a nice day out. Clubhouse is lovely.

Course was okay, but the pace of play was absolutely not acceptable and I would not recommend anyone else play because of this. It would’ve been nearly a 6 hour round (as a 2 ball) if we hadn’t of walked off from the 16th tee, where there were 4(!) groups on the par 3. Shocking. Unfortunately the resort did nothing to compensate as a GOG.

Good test at the end of the trip! Certainly worth playing all three courses when you go here!

Good test of golf for our standard (Mid HC) the greens were easily the toughest we've ever played! Don't get short sided!!!! 😳🤣

We had 2 people who required buggies due to disability but the buggies are on a gps grid run down paths, so cut out if you go on the fairway. They had to give up after 2 holes as they were nearly walking as far as the walkers. Show your blue badge and they make an exception but we did not know this. A tough interesting course with some good holes but needs more time to mature. Good fun though, but we were spoilt by the Rolls of Monmouth the previous day.

Pin positions couldn't have been harder. Sand hazards galore.....we found them all.

Very slow round, took over 5 hours waiting on every tee from 3rd !! Course was great, fairway’s obviously a bit brown and dry due to the recent hot weather but greens were fantastic condition, very quick too.

much better course to play wouldn’t need a buggy. Lovely views and fair course.

enjoyable. you need a buggy as quite hilly and long-ish walks green to next tee. But having to use buggy paths do mean some awkward walks to your ball

Good fun course in great condition. Personally I preferred this to the Montgomery.

An easier course than the Montgomerie for the hard of walking. The fairways were not as wide so with a buggy you should be ok. The course itself was great.

An OK course, but some quirky holes which made for course knowledge to get the ball direction right. Quite hilly, so buggy would be handy, but not for ‘cart path only’, so a tiring walk, especially on a warm day.

We enjoyed this course, though nothing particularly memorable.

Greens Well undulating and quick

Course condition again better than the twenty10…the only downside was a lack of stock in the halfway house.

Having played the Montgomery course the previous day, this was a big improvement, nice course with some really nice holes.

Great course, greens were fast for time of year.

When we arrived, the pro shop didn’t have our group down for any tee let alone our tees we had booked, this happened on the 2010 cour the previous day. We had to take an earlier tee which meant we were all rushing our breakfast and know warm up before the start, again didn’t go down well with the group.

It was a great experience for our group playing this course, although, just like the hotel, we had no tee time booking and at one stage we were unsure if we were going to be able to play this course. Full credit to Celtic manor for sorting this for us efficiently and couldn’t fault the staff throughout the trip.

If this was a members club this would have been closed. It was impossible to access some of the tees without getting covered in mud and our 4 ball lost 18 balls in the fairways. Due to the ground conditions the fairways had not been cut and some areas of the tees and greens had standing water. Wales in winter - what can you do?

Greens were in poor condition. Patchy & uneven. The fairways were wet underfoot. Difficult to get a stance on occasions. Risk of slipping over. Bland layout. Uninspiring. Not marshalled. 5 hours plus round. Unacceptable. The terrain dictates its an undulating course. Conditions made it tiring. I would not recommend playing the course. Especially not in the winter months. Underwhelmed.

Great course but very voggy, expected at this time of year.

Front 9 felt very hilly with the soft course conditions and was a difficult walk. Because it was so hilly the run off areas were very boggy. Greens were in perfect condition and couldn’t ask for more. Back 9 is a very fair test with some picturesque holes.

Obviously we were aware that playing in January runs some risks but the course was struggling. Water logged. Boggy in parts. Running water on two fairways. Shame because there were some great views and good facilities.

The course was very very muddy and the greens were very rough. The couple we were with were in a buggy and it was a long walk from the buggy path across the course. If we came again it would have to be in the spring summer when it is dry - coming in the autumn/winter is not to be recommended

Nice course but waterlogged. Bunkers a mess. Very few distance markers, no indication as to pin positions. Overall disappointed. Whilst appreciating the weather had been very wet and the water logged course unavoidable, we expected better course management. Wouldn’t return.

5900 yards or so. More open than the Montgomerie Course. Greens in good shape and quick Tee boxes above average. Being ryder cup weekend the course was very busy indeed. Our round wasn't far off 5 hours. Buggies at £38 didn't seem great value, especially having to keep them on the cart path the entire round.

A good warm up course the Roman Road, play was about right with very few in front of us on this round.

The course like Montgomerie was in excellent condition and it is a difficult but very fair course. We look forward to playing again next year

We had a great experience on the Roman Road. It was a good layout and the pace of play was fine. The course was challenging but fair and was in excellent condition throughout. Would definitely play again.

Course was in great condition but pace of play was ridiculous- 6 hours for a round and no Marshall in attendance. Two groups in front were more interested in drinking, talking and taking selfies. They needed chivvying along.

Really good course,unfortunately the service in the clubhouse was again terrible and the prices was shocking,they were more interested in the diners,than a few golfers who want a beer after their round

Could not even get a coffee before play or hit balls as the range opened at 10.00 and clubhouse 11.30 so bring your own !

Bit hilly if your carrying Buggy would be something to consider next time

Course was in good condition however be warned they are pairing up 2 balls with other 2 balls- paired up with an older gentleman that could let even bend down. Made the game around 5.5 hours. Wasn’t expected to be paired up with complete strangers.

Tees fairways and greens all well kept. Beyond the fairways the rough was a bit unmanaged.

Fantastic course, tough walking and really tricky greens that take some getting used to, but very rewarding when you do. Weather was bad but still did 18, testimony to the challenge of the course.

Brilliant

First time we have played the Roman Road, really enjoyed the course, greens are fastest here. This was our favourite of the three.

The Roman Road course is a beautiful one located in the Welsh hills. We only got to play the front 9 due to the started not being able to find room for us in a bust schedule to be able to out and back in time for the football on the evening. Greens were immaculate, even in the soggy weather. The clubhouse is classy and welcoming, the staff there were great too. We are mostly high handicapped golfers, but got around the front 9 in just under 3 hours. It was a little slow...but the tee times were full and this wasnt a suprise on a Saturday afternoon.

Good course more forgiving. A good mix of holes. We reserved buggies but the staff tried to say non were available. We stuck to our guns and showed the email they then gave us buggies.

Great opener if you are going to play the other two courses, great course, only disappointment was the very slow play from two four balls in front of our 3 ball, took far too long to complete the 18 holes and never much fun with stop start golf. Course was in great condition.

Didn't even get to play told it was really bad gave us a second round on the 2010 but walked after 9 holes not playable

The course was wet underfoot due to the extensive rainfall, however this could not be helped and tricky at times, good course.

Slightly easier than Montgomery but still a good challenging course very enjoyable

Heavy rain on the day forced us to quit early as it was becoming waterlogged.

Very wet under foot, we all lost balls on the fairway due to conditions, enjoyed the course though and look forward to playing it again in the summer months

Lovely course but 100% get a buggies it's very long from some of the holes to holes other than that beautiful course

Immaculate course, greens exceptional. More forgiving than the other two courses which is a great starter if you are doing all three. My recommendation is to walk the course if you can as buggies are strictly on paths and scenery is fab.

Brilliant course

This ,in my opinion. Is this is the easiest course of the 3. Again good fairways , quite wide , a lot of bunkers, greens are quick, with different levels.

Enjoyed every minute Be back next year at the latest

Excellent

Got there at 1.20 ready for our 2pm tee time which had been confirmed well beforehand by yourselves. We were met by the golf crew saying where had we been your tee time is at 1pm, I argued that it wasn't etc. They rushed us all out to the tee, we had no time to look around or practice and we all teed off being rushed. You hadn't updated the course that our tee time was at 2pm so another cock-up by yourselves.

The Roman Road course is a lovely rolling landscape and more suited to the mid to high handicapper. The course was in top condition and the marshals were exceedingly helpful. All in all four hours of genuinely fine golf.

Great day and always love playing this course. Greens were very very fast too. Hats off to the green staff. Great job.

This a brilliant course although my golf wasn’t quite up to it, I play off 24 and I felt the greens and pin positions were too tough, We played in torrential rain and the greens were still lighting quick, even with standing water on some parts, and I just felt that the pin positions could have been put in slightly easier positions.

Probably the most interesting course to play on

Part of the overall wonderful experience of three days golf (obviously 2010 was the jewel). This course had a bit of everything and more like a home course. Almost impossible to lose a ball and easier to play to handicap. So our final day made us feel like decent golfers again - fter concerns about our abilities after 2010!!!

On a par with the Montgomerie but a different kind of course can be unforgiving if you get it wrong :) still excellent though

My partner & I would describe ourselves as midrange handicappers, 18 & 20, & found the course long & challenging, although thoroughly enjoyable. The scenery is stunning & the variety of holes exceptional, although it is very hilly & I would suggest a buggy is an essential for all but the fittest. We had booked a two-ball but were paired up with another pair, nice enough lads, but they had a buggy so did spend a lot of time waiting for us at the tee, there is quite a long walk from green to tee on a fair number of the holes.

Delay through fog. Chaos! Eventually teed off as a two ball in a buggy ( cost £38 ) amongst 3 & 4 balls. People were impatient to the extent a ball came over our heads on a dog leg and was so close to be dangerous. Buggies were only allowed on cart track making it slow. Many ‘ hackers’ were evident. Altogether not a happy experience.

Played the Roman Road first, course changed and in my opinion slightly ruined due to an overflow car park, which has altered the layout. But still a decent challenge, and clubhouse always up to a high standard.

Blobbed the first 2holes my fault,the wind didn’t help .its a bit hilly so if you struggle walking then book a buggy,other than that its a great course

It was amazing to play such a course.

Only downside was the ground was a bit soggy of the fairways, but in great condition for time of year

Just short of 3 hours to complete 9 Holes. The Marshall didn’t hurry up slow play to the groups in front at all and we ended waiting longer and longer to tee off. We complained and had nothing until the other 2 gents who were paired up with us managed to complete 1 more hole in 45 mins so as they were offered a free round we eventually had to rebook but on another course not the one we paid for. We also booked becausea free buggy was offered and when we arrived to check in for the golf the buggy wasn’t added( I don’t normally mind but when away we like to have a buggy)

November and tge course was in excellent condition. Got lucky with the weather 😁

Greens very fast with pins in ridiculous positions

Thought this was a very good and testing course. Hit it straight and you have a good round in the making but veer offline and you find trouble as it should be. Greens have a lot of slope and the pin positions on the day made putting a real challenge (but a very enjoyable one!!)

Very nice fairways to hit off if you miss the fairways the grass was a few inches long could easily lose your ball but a greatime course to play
