Historically, golf has been played on the site since 1910, but the course as it is now was established in 1951. Though shorter than many of its Ayrshire neighbours, including sister course Lochgreen, Darley was exceptionally tight and unforgiving, with banks of heather and gorse lining the narrow landing strips. However this course is now a must play for all golfers as the green staff have done a great in creating a playable course for many a handicap golfer. Troon Links sits at the Train Station and has easy access from Glasgow. Darley is one of 3 courses and allows the golfer to walk from the town centre and experience the Open town of Troon. Darley heads East towards Kilmarnock Barassie with great views of the Isle of Arran.

It has been asserted that Darley is the fourth hardest course in Scotland at which to play to your handicap, with the emphasis placed on accuracy, patience and strategy. Faced with this proposition in a stiff wind, it is easy to understand why. Darley forms part of Troon Links, 3 courses serving the town of Troon. Darley could be described as the toughest with challenging tee shots, testing par 3’s and small greens. Recent course maintenance has allowed for Darley too become more friendly for us golfers, yet not taking away anything from the course. Heading North the course will take you close to Kilmarnock (Barassie), on occasion you will see the beautiful coastline that Troon has to offer.

Troon Darley was a decent layout for a public course, some of the tees looked a bit bare and there was a general council maintained feel about it, greens on the slow side, having said that would return.

Not a long course but you need to hit the fairways otherwise trouble awaits. Greens had been dressed but ran true

Course really enjoyable couple of holes work going on but was fine as we asked as yet again we were not told when booking in, and as when playing lochgreen on completing the round no cafe open very disappointed

Great for a municipal course. 4.45 hours though was a bit long. Very playable though.

Recent weather has affected some parts of this course, still worth a visit though.

An unrelentingly hard course to play from the 3rd to the 15th tees. Back course fairways pretty scarred with divots, over grown gorse and any loose shot immediately punished. I wanted to like this course but I can't say that I did despite not scoring too badly.

What a let down, tees scruffy, fairways full of weeds and greens needing work badly on them. Rubbish lying around all over place. Really disappointed that your golf would suggest this place to clients......
