- Bed and Breakfast
- 1 round at Ashburnham Golf Club
- 1 round at Machynys Peninsula Golf & Country Club
The Machynys Peninsula boasts the first Jack Nicklaus signature design to be completed in Wales, which in its short existence has established an impressive reputation. The Golden Bear's creation may overlook Carmarthen Bay on the South Coast, but any preconceptions about a links course will be quickly confounded on first glance.

The 25 acres of new land has been sculpted into an incredible resort style course that would be more at home in America, but still draws influence from classic seaside golf. Great swathes of rough are complemented by enormous water hazards to present visiting golfers with more than a little to think about, not to mention the championship yardage that tops 7,100 yards.
Very much in the style of a stadium course, Machynys has already hosted prestigious events including a Ladies European Tour stop, so follow in the footsteps of the professionals at Wales' newest star attraction.

A nice contrast to the mostly links style the group played during our week in south Wales, so a welcome change. Resort style coure in very good condition. The pro allowed us to tee off early to try to finish before the wet weather, the group were very grateful for. Lovely course.

Course and facilities look excellent prior to getting onto the course itself. Quite boggy in places on the fairways. No run on the fairways and needed to clean ball after every shot. Greens were in poor condition - had all undergone some treatment in the days prior to our round, bumpy striations all over the greens. Made it very difficult to put with any consistency - ball changing direction due to striations and bobbling around. This aspect very disappointing.

Course was a little wet in places which meant some fairways hadn't been cut. Still think it's a great golf course though having played there before.

It’s a decent enough track but you really get no sense that you are by the sea or on a peninsula until the last couple of holes. Most of the course runs alongside a ‘modern’ housing estate so you really don’t get any sense of place at all. Nice clubhouse and practice facilities. Enjoyable game but if you only have two games in the area then make them Porthcawl and Pennard, this place ranks a very distant third in comparison.

I have played Machynys several times before and this was the worst condition by far. The exceptional rainfall has had a bad effect on the gold course. Is was scruffy wet and the greens were slow and bumpy. This was poles apart from Ashburnham the day before. We were not allowed our electric trolley's due to the soft condition. After completing the front non we could see that the back nine was on temporary greens. This was not indicated to us by the pro shop. Fortunately we call ed the pro shop who gave us tee times for the first nine once more. As we came to the ninth this was now a temp. 6 out of the 8 golfers had not played Machynys and this was not the golfing experience they wanted. As the organiser of this trip with the hotel not having a reservation and not being able to play Machynys back nine is embarrassing. We got away with it but only just. I think Your Golf Travel should do something for us?

We played this course on a Sunday and were disappointed to discover that between 11 and 12 no food was available! It was a very windy day so scoring was tough

American style course and greens - played very tough in the wind. We played off the yellows, good luck if you're playing off the black tees!!

We played Machynys on a very windy day with rain threatening and while conditions were brutal we all thoroughly enjoyed our game. This is a proper test of golf on a very challenging course that was superbly presented. Definitely a don't miss venue if you're playing on the Gower peninsula.

A really enjoyable round with some fantastic holes. Greens on the front 9 really good, unfortunately back 9 recently had maintenance done on them. Didn't spoil the day. All staff really helpful and friendly.

A resort course, new and a very flash club house...but the course just lacked something special. Still, a good contrast to the others and enjoyable.

Mixed reviews from the group on the course, however overall it was a success. It worked very well for our group and despite some inclement weather there was enough variety to the course and interesting holes. The round was too slow at almost 5 hours again.

Great course offering a different experience to your normal course. Very well kept and there is more room to play your tee shot than it looks, but you will need to bring your A game, it will test your skills, just enjoy the experience.

Beautifully presented course with a lot of interesting holes, hard but fair until you get to the 18th! The wind wasn't from the prevailing direction which made clearing the lake beyond all but our single handicapper! The staff were very friendly and efficient. The fairways were lush, the greens true and the wildlife was varied with Cormorant, Heron and kingfishers all spotted on the way round. Only downside was the tees which were being tined and sanded with several of the ladies tees needing to be avoided. There were no tee marker placed anywhere so we had to find a fair spot for the ladies to tee it up.
