Malmaison Leeds

Very Good See all 1 review

Tucked into the corner of Swinegate and The Calls, Malmaison Leeds is a smart pick if you want your golf break with a bit of city buzz. You're a short stroll from some of Leeds' best bars and live music spots, many tucked under the converted railway arches that give this area its edge. It's ideal for groups who like a proper evening out after the round, without being stuck out on a business-park ring road.

When you've got time off the course, Leeds is a cracking city for a wander. Kirkgate Market is a classic stop for food stalls and local atmosphere, while the Royal Armouries is well worth an hour or two if you fancy some culture between tee times. And for the golfing geeks in the group, Leeds has its own slice of history too, with the first Ryder Cup on British soil played just outside the city.

If you're planning a Yorkshire golf break and want a base that mixes nightlife, good eating and easy access to quality courses, Malmaison ticks plenty of boxes. Just bear in mind that while Leeds is walkable, getting out to the golf is usually quickest by taxi or pre-arranged transfers, especially for early starts.

Who is this for?
Golfers or groups looking for a city-centre stay in Leeds with quick access to quality courses, vibrant nightlife and a hotel that feels more boutique than business. It suits those who want to combine golf with exploring a proper northern city, whether that's live music, markets or a decent meal out.

Who is it best for?
Groups and societies who want a lively base with plenty to do off the course, couples after a short golf break with good food and atmosphere, and anyone keen to play historic Yorkshire courses while staying somewhere with a bit of edge and character rather than a standard resort setup.

Accommodation at Malmaison Leeds

Rooms at Malmaison Leeds go for bold, modern styling with a quirky edge, and you'll appreciate the space after a day on your feet. Expect large, air-conditioned bedrooms and generous bathrooms, which is exactly what you want when you're back in the room sorting kit for the next day. There's proper space to stretch out, and the design keeps things interesting without tipping into gimmicky.

Food and drink is a big part of why this place works for golfers staying in the city. Chez Mal Brasserie & Bar has that relaxed, lively feel that suits post-round storytelling, whether you're debriefing the day's near-misses or planning where to play next. The menu is solid brasserie fare, nothing overly complicated, and it's an easy option for groups who want a decent meal without hunting for somewhere that can take a table at short notice. Pair your meal with a glass of wine or a cocktail and it keeps the night flowing if you're heading out afterwards, or wraps things up nicely if you're calling it early before an early tee time.

Location is the other win. You're close to the riverside paths by the Aire if you fancy a gentle leg-stretcher in the morning, and you're already in the right part of town for an evening out. The hotel sits in the heart of Leeds' bar and live music quarter, so you can walk to most of the city's best spots without needing a taxi. For golf logistics, it's also a handy base for meeting taxis or transfers, and it suits short breaks where you want to combine city downtime with rounds at some of Yorkshire's best-known courses.

If you're travelling as a society or a mixed-ability group, this is the kind of hotel that feels more fun than functional. It's not a sprawling resort with on-site golf, but for a Leeds city-centre stay with comfort, character and a strong bar and restaurant set-up, it does the job very well. The central location means you can keep the group together for dinner and drinks without anyone needing to drive, and the rooms give you enough space and quiet to recharge properly between rounds. Build Malmaison Leeds into your next Yorkshire golf break if you want a lively base in the city rather than a standard resort stay.

The hotel was comfortable and clean. We checked in early evening and found that the dining room was closed so went out to find somewhere to eat. Sunday in Leeds is not a lively place and we didn't find a place to eat until 22.40 - probably our fault looking in the wrong places. Breakfast was average but well served.
