Designer Fream was aided by multiple major-winner Nick Price in creating the Gramacho Course, the second at Carvoeiro. The Gramacho is unique in that it has 18 sets of tees, but has 27 greens, making for a welcome variety. The 6,679 yard layout features many obstacles, including lakes, rocks and walls, as well as the almond, fig and olive trees that help to make the course so beautiful. The Gramacho has been selected to host the Ladies European Tour's finest players, and is a fascinating challenge.

Silves Course
Just ten minutes away is the Silves Course, the third on offer for guests at the Carvoeiro resort. Silves is a typical resort course, with generous rolling fairways, and a number of large water hazards. Bordered by palm and olive trees, the course affords terrific views of the mountains and the valley. The main difficulty is the severity of the green-side bunkers, so accurate approach shots are crucial around this delightful Algarve track.

Alto Golf & Country Club
Situated in a stunning private community in the Western Algarve, Alto was the last course to be designed by the legendary Sir Henry Cotton. The winding fairways and elevated greens are typical of Cotton's architectural philosophy, and ensure that there is a stern challenge for the low handicap players, whilst remaining fair for the average golfer. Set across two rolling hills, visitors will enjoy beautiful views of the Lagos Bay.

Great stay at the hotel. Staff were brilliant
8 / 10
A nice hotel. Very friendly and helpful staff and only a short walk from the town centre. Only thing that would detract is that the beer was not well maintained and the breakfast a little bland, albeit I would comment that there was good choice.

All ok apart from the bar doesn’t take cash and also adds 10%service charge to even a beer!

Hotel is in a good location within easy reach of Alvor centre. Rooms are comfortable but very basic. We had a twin deluxe room (all rooms are titled deluxe and are identical) with full sea view balcony including breakfast costing an extra £148 for the 7 nights over the standard “deluxe” twin room which all overlook the car park. The room was tired and in need of a refresh. For the time of year the hotel was very comfortable and the buffet style breakfasts were very good with ample selection of hot and cold foods. I get the impression though at the height of season the breakfast would be very crowded and long queues would form at the toasters, coffee machines and omelette counter. Rooms were made up each day and fresh towels provided. Overall an excellent 7 days stay.

Could have been better.
We arrived early on day one and as we had B&B the breakfast didn’t start until the following day, as we were leaving in the middle of the night on our last day I asked if we could swap our booked and paid for breakfast to our arrival day. Refused! So we had to pay €14 each for breakfast being promised a continental breakfast at 2:30am on our check out day. They left a mountain of butter a bit of cheese, some meat and some stale bread. No milk, no cereal, no tea. Very poor for 12 people.
Watch your bar bills as service charge is added to your drinks very upset when you ask for it to be removed.
The great thing is the location and the rims are comfortable but could do with a kettle.
8 / 10
We were on B&B basis so not too much time spent in hotel but the pool, grounds and beach bar after golf were great. Looking to go again (with wife) as boardwalk to town and beach bars in early evening were amazing.

Good value for money overall. The staff were very helpful, and the proximity to beach was very good. Close to some nice beach bars, just a few minutes walk. Walking into Alvor took about 10-15 mins. The pool area was clean. Only had breakfast and drinks in the hotel - plenty of choice.
Downsides - our room was quite small for three - two single beds and a sofa bed, but for all the time we were in there it was ok. Only two lifts to service five floor (we were on the 5th floor) meant there were often some queues to use the lifts.
Overall, a pleasant experience

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Perfect hotel for 8 guys golfing. Short walk into town or 5 euro taxi. We have stayed a number of occasions. Staff are friendly and helpful. Rooms are fine nothing too fancy, but perfectly adequate. Breakfast just OK, but adequate. Nothing bad about this at all and would recommend for golfing break.

Hotel is well appointed and in a great location for an easy walk into Alvor along the boardwalk. The rooms are comfortable and clean with fridges and balconies.
Down side is noisey guests with no consideration for others, especially getting out of Taxis and in the corridors.
The few of the staff need some serious customer service training.
Overall I would still recommend staying here.

This is the second year we have stayed at this hotel and the only thing you could possibly alter is been a little closer to the town centre. Having said that a taxi was only £3.50. We walk in and taxi back.

Superb location on the beach. Very big pool and plenty of shaded areas. Buffet breakfasts were excellent and we ate once at an evening Italian buffet which was OK although not very Italian - only 1 strange pasta dish. Only down side - the towels had seen better days.

only stayed one night - location is right on the beach

As always the Dom Joao is a great place to stay. Close to the boardwalk into the village of Alvor a 5€ taxi fare. Breakfast is superb with lots of fresh fruit and choice of cooked food. The only disappointment is the fruit juice which is very weak and tasteless.
Rooms are extremely comfortable and plenty of hot water. Would recommend as a great place to stay.

A very good place to stay in Alvor

We couldn't have received better value anywhere. I booked for four of us, so I was trying to keep the price as low as possible. For the price it was spectacular.

This a a good value hotel.
An upgrade to rooms would make a difference.
6 / 10
Room was standard but hotel is tired even though it had a refurb 2019/2020 there are broken tiles in the toilets the laminate flooring on the 4th floor has buckled which could be a trip hazard and the large restaurant mirrors are broken and cracked? The breakfast was cold or like warm because the baymarie wasn't working properly only good thing was I was away from storm arwen.
8 / 10
On arrival they had everyone of our 12 rooms all under the name of our group organiser. This hardly gave the best impression of efficiency. What made it worse was that two days before our arrival I had written to them confirming all those who were to arrive and highlighted that the name of the organiser should be excluded from the arrivals list as he, poor chap, had to go into hospital.
Equally on the admin front, they tried their best to charge extra for a late arrival of one of our member’s wife who was booked into his double room and it took ages to get that sorted because they would not read the booking form correctly, just what someone had keyed onto their system which I suppose was sacrosanct.
Finally, given a little over a fortnight’s notice, we had asked for score cards at each of the courses to be available for output arrival, but no one knew anything about that request despite my showing them the original e-mail to the front desk!

Have stayed at the Dom Joao for the past 18 years and am always satified. Pestana have a great business model and it shows in their properties and staff. The hotel has undergone a makeover during the Covid lockdowns and it bright, modern and airy looking.
The breakfast facilities have been improved with additional service stations anf extra equipment.
However, there is still room for improvement with regard to the hot buffet. I like my food on the HOT side and the temperature of the hot buffet is just not quite there.
That said, I do enjoy the fact that you can get omlettes and fried eggs cooked fresh.
A great place to stay.

Been to Hotel last 4 years, it has had an upgrade in the public areas and rooms nicely done, could do with bathroom upgrade to walk in showers and cushions for sun beds. Overall a great hotel for golfers, superb location if going back to region would certainly be first choice.
8 / 10
Really enjoyed our stay. Every think catered for. Couple of our guys found the 15 min walk into town a bit far but a taxi is only £3.70.
8 / 10
Very nice simple but stylish hotel. Food and bar facilities very good. Comfortable rooms.
8 / 10
The room was a bit tight for 3 adults but would have been great for 2.
Great choice for breakfast but ‘hot’ food offering was like warm.
Excellent systems in place to mitigate COVID transmission
Excellent and friendly staff throughout.

Fantastic location on the beach and within a lovely 10 minute walk to the centre of Alvor. Nice rooms, excellent staff and great facilities. Excellent 4 star accommodation.
Would definitely recommend.

Never stayed there this year but good last year
6 / 10
The room was fairly standard but nice and clean, the staff were friendly and helpful. The outside areas were clean and well maintained with plenty of loungers around the pool and gardens, the spa us tired and not very welcoming and the steam room didn't work while we were there. The breakfast were usual buffet type breakfast but the standard of cereal and jam and those kind of things did seem poor. The town of Alvor is a 10 minute walk away and has a fantastic choice of restaurants and bars with great service and great atmosphere. The boardwalk and the beach are superb so the town and beach area more than made up for the little let down of the food and spa.
10 / 10
We actually got upgraded to the Pestana Blue hotel and resort complex in Alvor a new 5 star hotel all inclusive.
The facilities and rooms were fantastic Food and drink also brilliant and plenty to do around the hotel when waiting to play or not playing golf
Would highly recommend this hotel to anyone
Staff friendly and helpful also

I was bitterly disappointed about our room (N0 207). We had paid extra for a Sea View, however when looking from our balcony the view was blocked by some concrete construction, which I am still not what it was and large trees. We could just about see the Sea but I would say it was less 10% of the overall scene (picture available if you want it). I did complain and was willing to pay extra for a room on a higher floor but was told the Hotel was full. Over the week I asked a few guests who were on the 3rd and 4th floors when they booked there holiday and about 50% of them had made reservations in the past 3 months, which seems to me there is no advantage in booking early as you will only be allocated a poor room. As to the room, it was kept spotless by the cleaning staff and they are to be congratulated. The bars and restaurants were Ok but nothing special. The hotel want 25 euros for an evening meal (20 euros) if you book the day before for a buffet type service. As you can get a very decent meal with a drink for two in Alvor (15 mins away) for less 40 euros, I would avoid the hotel. If you are having breakfast, get there before 0800 as after then it is a bit of a "Bun Fight". Next to the hotel is the Pestana golf shop and the staff in there were excellent. We needed to change some dates and times for our vouchers and nothing was too much trouble for them, once again the staff should be congratulated, as with all the general staff of the hotel.

Great location, clean and good breakfasts. Rooms are comfortable with plenty of room. Easy walk along the lovely boardwalk to the town, where there are plenty of lovely restaurants and bars. Great beach just outside hotel or plenty of free sun beds by the pool.

6 / 10
Hotel ok as usual, car park rammed full every night which can be a pain. Breakfasts good enough, snacks and beer expensive other than happy hours. Rooms good enough, cleaned well each day. Staff chatty and smiley .

Room was light and nicely laid out...wish I'd asked for a sea view though! Breakfasts were amazing...so much choice. Bar area was nice and enjoyed the entertainment on several nights we were there. Also uses the pool and sauna in the Wellness centre. Pool was too cold first few days then it heated up and was much more pleasant. Would certainly stay here again.
