Tucked into the same towering sand dunes that shelter the legendary Portmarnock Golf Club, Portmarnock Resort & Jameson Golf Links is a brilliant option if you want proper links golf without heading miles out of the city. You're just outside Dublin and around 15 minutes from the airport, so it works especially well for long weekends and early flights home.
The hotel sits on the former estate of the Jameson family and it still feels like a coastal escape rather than an airport stopover. On-site you've got a spa and two strong dining options, so non-golfers or mixed groups are well looked after too. The setting is hard to beat, perched on the Velvet Strand with five miles of uninterrupted beach running from the hotel's doorstep.
If you're planning a wider Ireland itinerary, this is also an easy base for ticking off other Dublin-area golf while still getting that dunes-and-sea-air feel. The fishing villages of Malahide and Howth are nearby, both known for excellent seafood restaurants and harbourside walks, and Dublin city centre is less than 25 minutes by car. For more ideas, it's worth browsing our guide to Ireland's best golf resorts before you lock in dates.

Despite its relative youth Jameson Golf Links (formerly Portmarnock Links) has forged such a strong reputation that it is now held in the same high regard as other, more established, world-class links courses in the UK and Ireland. The course opened to great acclaim in June 1995 and has been receiving accolades from visiting golf writers and top professionals ever since. Bernhard Langer has used all of his considerable golfing experience to create a classic links of the very highest order.
Host to many top amateur and professional events including the 2008 & 2009 Ladies Irish Open, this championship links boasts all of the features inherent to a classic links course. Elevated tees, blind approaches, sweeping undulations, devilish pot bunkers and, of course, the typical links sea breezes are all present and they combine to offer golfers of all abilities an authentic and infinitely enjoyable test of links golf. As with many of the top class links courses around the UK and Ireland, Portmarnock was built on perfect sandy links turf and as such the course drains exceptionally well, thus allowing golfers to play all year round.
Following a day on the fairways, golfers can enjoy a light bite in either the Jameson Bar, that is situated in the Jameson House or retire to the Seaview for breathtaking views of the sea and golf course.

Set on a quiet stretch of the Velvet Strand, one of Ireland's most beautiful unbroken coastlines, the historic Portmarnock Resort has been completely reimagined. What was once the Jameson family home is now a modern, full-service golf resort that sits just 15 minutes from Dublin Airport, making it one of the most accessible quality golf bases in Ireland.
The resort caters to a wide range of guests. Business travellers use it as a coastal retreat. Golfers come for the links course. Couples and families are drawn by the spa, the restaurants and the five-mile stretch of pristine sandy beach that runs right from the hotel's doorstep. If you're an early riser or a sunset walker, that beach is genuinely hard to beat.
Rooms are modern and geared to golfers on a short break, with plenty of space to unwind after 18 holes and, in many cases, views towards the dunes or coastline. The resort's layout means you're never far from either the golf course or the sea, and the overall feel is calm and uncluttered. There's good storage for clubs and kit, which matters if you're travelling with a group or playing multiple rounds.
Food is a strong point, particularly if you're travelling in a group and want easy on-site options after your round. The resort runs two well-regarded restaurants, both focused on local and seasonal ingredients. Seafood features heavily, as you'd expect this close to the coast, and the kitchen makes good use of Irish produce. It's the kind of food that works whether you're refuelling after 18 holes or settling in for a longer evening meal with the group.
The spa is another highlight, particularly if you're travelling as a couple or planning a few rest days between rounds. Treatments are well executed, the facilities are modern and the setting, overlooking the coast, adds to the sense of escape. For golfers, it's a useful option if the weather turns or you need to ease out a few aches after a long day walking the dunes.
Beyond the resort itself, you're well placed to explore. The neighbouring fishing villages of Malahide and Howth offer celebrated specialist seafood fare and harbourside charm, and with Dublin city centre and Grand Canal Dock less than 25 minutes by car, there's quite literally something for everyone. It's a flexible base that works for pure golf trips and broader Irish breaks alike. Include Portmarnock Resort & Jameson Golf Links in your next Dublin Golf Break.
