With the River Teviot flowing alongside, this picturesque track also has some teeth; at over 7,000 yards it is a course that is well-suited to those who hit the ball long and high, and also challenges visitors with Thomas' characteristically deep bunkers.
The course is relatively young, but has already entered the top 100 rankings in the United Kingdom, thanks to holes like number 14, ‘The Viaduct'. With an elevated tee perched high above the beautifully-mown fairway, this must surely be one of Scotland's most beautiful holes. The spectacular viaduct traverses the Teviot in the near distance, while the river hugs the left side, posing a genuine challenge to the intrepid golfer.
Ryder Cup hero Sam Torrance is a known fan of the Roxburghe, while Colin Montgomerie, Nick Faldo, and course record holder Sergio Garcia have also visited in recent times, so why not follow in the footsteps of the great?
The estate's soil is so bountiful that the head chef grows much of his own produce in the restaurant's garden.

A Memorable Stay for a Special Occasion We stayed at the hotel to celebrate my wife's 50th birthday, and it was an unforgettable experience. The staff were incredibly attentive to our needs, making us feel truly valued throughout our stay. The facilities, especially the spa, were outstanding—clean, luxurious, and relaxing. Every detail was thoughtfully taken care of. We would absolutely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a special getaway. Thank you for making our celebration so memorable!

The room was very comfortable with all amenities overlooking the gardens. Staff were all very welcoming, polite and friendly and we're pleased to help. The hotel is set in beautiful grounds right next to the golf course and the spa was luxurious. I'll definitely be taking my wife there for a trip. Special thanks to the barmaid in the whisky and gin bar for a memorable evening.

Simply amazing. What a jewel in the Scottish Borders. The facilities on offer were exceptional in every way and from a value for money perspective, its one of the best high quality resorts I've stayed at in recent years. I'd happily pay more for what is on offer at the amazing hotel and spa. As for the golf course, beautiful and pristine are an understatement. It was a pleasure to play and although challenging, it was fair and immaculately presented. We'll definitely be making this an annual event.

Beautiful hotel in gorgeous surroundings. Stunning room - wish there was a bath tub as well as a shower. Room boiling hot and couldn’t work out how to open windows or if they did open at all. Toiletries great, bed comfort superb. Woken at 7am by men delivering wood in a truck right below our room over the front door. Travelled on 3rd April - glorious weather but golf club wasn’t open “until end of April”. Paid summer rate so felt everything should be open. We would have loved nothing more than to sit with a pint afterwards and get lunch outside sporting a great view of the course and other players. Such a shame. There was nowhere to buy cold drinks to take with us onto the course - bearing in mind golf is a sport and the weather was very warm - this isn’t good. Food prices were expensive £18 sandwich - came with a few crisps. Good quality but not a great choice - same menu for dinner in the evening in that bar. The other restaurant was nice - food “ok” not amazing - which again for the price was disappointing. All restaurant staff were lovely, kind and the most polite I’ve ever encountered.

We have done many golf breaks all over the world and have to say this was one of the best. The hotel was excellent in all aspects can’t fault it but best of all is the restaurant the food is definitely 5 star and is a credit to the staff and chef’s. We also enjoyed walking the grounds and maybe next time would have a go at the fishing and the clay pigeon shooting on site. All in all a fantastic hotel with excellent facilities and we will definitely be rebooking.

This is the first time my wife and I had stayed at the Schloss Roxburghe hotel and we will certainly be back. We stayed there with friends and have to admit that we were treated like Royalty by the staff. It was our Anniversary and because of this we received a free upgrade to our room. The room we were given was fantastic, although I did have a glance at our friends room and this was excellent as well. It is strange times we are in just now because of Covid 19 but we felt completely safe in the hotel and Clubhouse. The food for evening meal was fantastic, as was the service. The same can be said for the morning, breakfast was served promptly and was very good. My wife and I hope to return there quite soon.

A Truly Incredible Golfing Experience An incredible course from start to finish! The layout was both beautiful and challenging, especially with the strategic placement of the bunkers that really tested our game. The greens were in top-notch condition—smooth, fast, and well-maintained. We used a buggy throughout the round, which made the experience even more enjoyable and comfortable. Having played this course in the past, I can confidently say it continues to impress. It was an unforgettable experience, and I’d highly recommend it to any golf enthusiast looking for a serious challenge in a stunning setting.

✓31 Aug 2024
The greens were amazing, really well kept and really enjoyable to play and look out at the amazing views. The only things that spoilt this were the pot holes in the paths leading from one green to the next and the pace of play / time between tee times which meant that we were all getting backed up. At one stage we were in the middle of 3 groups waiting to tee off from the same hole. This made us all feel very stressed out and anxious when taking our shots. I was also disappointed at the lack of ladies golf clothing and equipment in the Golf Shop.

✓24 Feb 2024
Although it was dry when we played the course was wet with very little run, but it was middle of February. Greens were fairly fast and the course was in general in good condition, some interesting holes with fairly big bunkers and a couple of water hazards to cross on the par 3’s.Maybe better to play it again in the summer to score better, but a lovely day and stay in the hotel.

Fairways and greens in summer condition. Some long walks between holes and strenuous up and down hills on some holes. Buggy requires for those less fit! Wide fairways - not a lot of trouble but a fair few bunkers. 2 water holes - but only lost 3 balls (in water) between us in 2 rounds. Course needs better signage between holes - wasn’t clear which way to go a few times! Golf club isn’t open until end April - nowhere to buy drink to take on course. No quick access toilets either (after 9 holes) - ladies above club house and difficult to find. Pro-shop staff not particularly helpful - no tips / advice when we asked as we hadn’t played there before. Course very quiet - hardly anyone out which was perfect for us. Paid a lot for one night stay and play - think could’ve got a better deal elsewhere but would return to play the course.

Roxburghe is a very challenging course and you have to be on your game to get a decent score. We walked both day’s and although it’s a long course we more enjoyable than using a buggy. The condition of the course and greens is a real credit to the groundstaff it has become one of favourite visiting courses to play.

We had a fun time on this golf course. We played two rounds over the weekend. The greens we still recovering from being holed and top dressed so they were rather bumpy. It didn't spoil the round too much. On the second day play was rather slow and as it wasn't too warm we decided to call it a day after about 11 holes. On the whole a very enjoyable experience and certainly a great place the play and stay.

We were warned a few days before (by the Roxburgh NOT YGT) that tining works were in progress and when asked, our buggy fees were reduced accordingly. We thoroughly enjoyed our round. ✓20 Aug 2021
We decided to walk the course for our 3 rounds rather than buggy which was fine there are a few long walks uphill between holes but not over strenuous. The course was in excellent condition, we are mid handicappers and found it a good challenge especially with the steep bunkers and the long rough so you need to be straight off the tee. Pace of play was good and it was nice to see some of the local golfers playing with there dogs walking along side. A great course with a fantastic hotel what more could a golfer want. Many thanks to John for arranging such a great break.

We played as a four ball and had the luxury of playing at our own speed. There was a two ball in front and we kept them in sight until the end. The two ball behind never got within a hole of us. We found the course in great condition, considering the rain the area had had the two days prior. There was no evidence of water on the course other than the fast flowing River Tweed adjoins the course. Found it easier playing the course on the second day but enjoyed the whole experience. Greens were excellent and bunkers were clean and tidy considering the lack of attention they get due to Covid 19 rules. The Clubhouse is quite small but we found the staff obliging and cheerful. Perhaps the Clubhouse might be altered once the renovations are completed at the hotel.
