The Gary Player Country Club is arguably the most recognisable course in South Africa, having been the host of the Nedbank Golf Challenge since 1981. Measuring in excess of 7,700 yards from the Championship tees, framed by the Pilansberg Mountains, it is easy to see why this is revered as one of South Africa's, and the world's, top golf courses.
Attracting a world class field of professional golfers each year for The Million Dollar Challenge, Sun City, and The Gary Player Country Club, has no less than 13 different Major Championship winners amongst its elite band of Champions. The course that can claim winners ranging from Seve Ballesteros (1983 & 1984), Ian Woosnam (1987, the first winner of the prized $1,000,000 cheque), Sir Nick Faldo (1994), Ernie Els (1999, 2000 & 2002), Sergio Garcia (2001 & 2003) and Your Golf Travel's Lee Westwood (2010 & 2011).
With scoring traditionally very good despite the challenge offered this can be one of the year's most exciting tournaments. Ernie Els claims the tournament record with an incredible -25 four-round total including closing rounds of 64 and 66 over the weekend.
Signature Hole: 9th - 596 yards
The 9th hole at Gary Player Country Club demands strategic play, most golfers take three shots to complete it, presenting a tempting risk-reward challenge. The standout feature is the island green, surrounded by water, which has captivated golfers for years.

Also within the renowned resort is the Lost City Course, a spectacular creation carved through the dramatic Sun City landscape by designer Gary Player. The diminutive South African is said to be extremely fond if his project at Lost City, which is known for some amazing holes, bordered by great expanses of water. Whilst it is often in the shadow of the tournament hosting Country Club layout, Lost City is by no means inferior, and is a delightful part of a golf holiday in Sun City.
Lost City's 13th hole is the resort's most amazing - should you find the water, as many do, you will have to contend with 2 metre-long crocodiles in order to retrieve your ball!

Lying at the heart of the Sun City Resort, the Palace of the Lost City is a base spectacular enough to equal its surroundings, and has been recognised by the Leading Hotels Of The World association.
Pure fantasy is the best way to describe the Lost Palace, where the inherent African rhythm complements the extravagant style and décor. Surrounded by great acreage of jungle, the hotel boasts 338 guest rooms and suites, whose obvious luxury is aided by in-room features such as armoires, writing desks, computerised safes, high speed internet access, satellite television, mini-bar, air-conditioning and a business communication telephone system.
Lavished in the utmost luxury, the hotel's public areas are truly resplendent, helping to underline the fact that the Palace of the Lost City is the ultimate golf and safari holiday destination.
Sun City offers a wide selection of restaurants and bars, a favourite is the Crystal Court Restaurant & the Tusk Bar, where you can watch the sunset over an early evening drink.
Located in the club house at the Gary Player Country Club, the resort's luxury new health spa offers indulgent treatments, including hydrotherapy, Vichy shower, massages, pedicures, facials and manicures. The complex also has a whirlpool bath and a sauna, but for something more exciting, head to the Valley of Waves, a 25-hectare playground of water-based adventure. You can have a go at water-skiing, parasailing and jet-skiing, or alternatively go on a safari adventure; Sun City borders the Pilanesberg National Park, a malaria free zone which is home to the sacred ‘Big 5'.
To enjoy the finest views of Sun City and the Pilanesberg, take to the skies for a hot air balloon ride. When the temperature rises, the Poolside restaurant and bar is the place to cool off and refresh. The Villa del Palazzo serves authentic Italian cuisine in the most elegant of surroundings.

Very enjoyable stay. The rooms very clean and tidy. There were problems with the lifts but as we were only on the second floor that didn't affect us, once we had found the fire escspe stairs. Breakfast served on the open air patio area which was very nice. We eat in all three restaurants as well as the hardrock cafe. All meals were of a high standard and worth the price paid. Hotel located within a short walk of the Gary Player golf course. Transport to and from The Lost World course was organised when required very quickly and without a fuss. All the staff were very helpful when required. We would highly recommend Sun City. Would suggest a 10 day stay rather than the 7 days one we decided on. Once again, overall a superb golfing holiday.

The accommodation is badly in need of a refurb. The carpets in the corridors were grubby and marked. The rooms were tired and dated but comfortable. Within the hotel there were various eateries. We had a lovely meal in the Asian restaurant-delicious. Easy access to the Gary Player course which was great. Lovely pool area but not the most comfortable sun beds!

Some parts a little tired, but great location for Gary Player and Lost City and if staying in Sun City why wouldn't you stay at the hotel with a casino. Great for our group of 8 - Hard Rock café bar a hard place to beat for atmosphere and a good time après golf!

This course was the harder of the two we played. Definitely needed the buggie provided in the green fee. Very challenging for higher handicappers off the tee. Very enjoyable rounds.

The course was in excellent condition. We had the same caddies for the two rounds. We both benifitted from their knowledge of the greens.

Really loved this course. It was interesting -beautiful scenery- definitely not a walking course! Hilly at times and long walks green to tee. The wildlife here was, again, interesting and the crocodile hole lived up to its name. The spotter was great and definitely earned his money!

Really enjoyed the course. I played with two men and felt that my caddy on the second day wasn’t the least bit interested in my game! I had to walk to him to get a club and return the one I had just played a lot of the time! Rather annoying to be honest. The first caddy was okay. The course was tricky at times but if you got a good caddy( which I think most are!) they give you good lines and good reads on the greens. I walked both days and was glad I did despite the heat! You need a medical reason to buggy but it is a nice walking course. Bring a camera-lots of interesting wildlife!

all good apart from the speed of play as we were a two ball and it seems you are just thrown in to fight your way through fourballs , the staff tried hard to give as hassel free golf and the best time is 8am or 11am

We were 8 and played it 3 times. Golfers from 28-9 Congu - no one scored over 29 points any time but we loved it. Caddies mean walking is OK. Was a real treat to tread path so many famous golfers have and do not just book 1 round as it will not be enough as you'll definitely want to go back and play a hole or two differently next time! YGT deal included food, which we were not even expecting - fantastic deal.

Lovely, lovely course & if you visit Sun City and only play GP then you are mad, because this is a different treat with great panoramic views and we (8 of us) thought better par 3's than GP!) Greens slightly slow if home course has decent greens, but that is a minor point - loved it.

As buggies are allowed it made the game quicker. As for the difficulty of the course it reflects if you have played it before. Again my second round was better than the first round. Fantastic views, i even had a crocodile next to one green fortunately the green was elevated. Many thanks to Richard Tidman at Yourgolftravel

The course was in a great condition constantly looked after. Again it was difficult because it was my first time, the second game was easier. You have to have a caddie, buggies/trolleys not allowed, info from the caddie helped with putting. Wildlife around but no issues. Fantastic views all around.

Loved the course in excellent condition. The greens were quick & true. The back 9 was very slow & we had to wait on every shot. Enjoyed the experience. Caddies were very good. Not a bad hole on the course Enjoyed the whole experience
