The Lion Hotel - Criccieth

The hotel was absolutely brilliant, we pre-booked 20 meals before our arrival and everyone was absolutely made up with the hospitality of the place.

Really easy, nice hotel, right in the centre of the town, so all good.

The hotel was well situated , facilities were decent , staff very accommodating , breakfast buffet was OK however the hotel itself is slightly dated and bar closed early if no people in . We came back to the hotel at 11 o'clock so we could have a drink or two as the bars/pubs were closing but the bar tender had cashed up and said we couldn't get a drink...

The hotel is a bit tired and the car park is too small but food was good and staff helpful

The breakfast staff and reception were very good however some of the bar staff were ignorant and rude

Bed needs replacing, bathroom area grubby. Breakfast supposed to be served from 7.30 but more like 7.45 then only came out slowly, this matters if you are teeing off early.

My room was tiny and it was sold as a double room, however it was clean and functional. The staff were in the main, amazing. The evening meal on our last night was mediocre, however breakfast on both mornings was exceptional. Very old fashioned hotel with old fashioned ways. Absolutely Not worth the £480 I paid for a two night stay.

Great location and Criccieth is a really nice little town with a good choice of restaurants.

Perfectly adequate for a short stay

Good location if you’re playing Porthmadog and or St David’s and fine for a few guys on an away trip. Everything was clean and tidy. Breakfast’s are straight forward and set you up for a day on the course.

The hotel was great. Unfortunately no sky sports to watch the masters after our round. Closes for food at 8pm, also not many places open on Fridays for food in the town. Room was very clean, bed was comfortable breakfast was great. Staff very helpful.

Our party would rather have stayed at a more upmarket hotel and paid more money for the privilege. this being said the hotel did suffice.

2nd stay at this hotel, ideal location with everything you need close by. 16 of us went this time and there were no complaints….. lovely breakfast too.

Rooms a little dated but good location in middle of town.

Hotel wasn’t great, a bit dated and old. Breakfast was poor. Beds uncomfortable. If I was YGT I would look at another hotel in Criccieth.

We were 24 visiting golfers and to a man we were very happy with the overall package the hotel was central to our planned golf courses and the hotel facilities were excellent as were the staff -would recommend

Excellent stay at The Lion Hotel. Group of 24 served great food and quickly too! Rooms lovely and clean. Altogether a great central place to stay.

Solid hotel. Good location with fantastic breakfast and bar on site which was priced excellent. Comfy beds and rooms were clean and tidy. Just what you need for a golf trip!

The hotel is bang on the middle of town. It was spotless and the breakfast was lovely. Private parking too was a bonus.

Excellent from start to finish Thanks

Hotel was pleasant and had everything required. We went on the hottest 2 days of the year and there were no fans available, however the weather was extreme and we cannot fault the hotel for this! Criccieth itself is a lovely little town!

Mixed experience, breakfasts were excellent, room wasn't serviced on the first day, when we asked were told" we don't service rooms for the duration of the stay!. On the second night we asked to eat in the restaurant( at 6.00pm) only to be told quite abruptly " we are fully booked" despite having at our count 22 empty tables and only 4 occupied.No I'm sorry we are full, try x,y,or z nothing at all, dreadful service.

Nice hotel & friendly staff

Excellent hotel in a great location for all the courses we played. Nice comfortable rooms with all the amenities you'd expect. Fantastic, helpful staff and a great buffet breakfast.

Decent 3 star ensuite rooms, clean and comfortable, lift too. Excellent buffet style brekky, shame no evening food or sports on the telly. Only a couple more pubs in Criccieth so quiet if you like that.

An awesome golf escape, very smooth process and great tee times, blessed with the weather, but great choice of accommodation and golf courses - I'll be back for sure. Guy

Switched to another hotel on arrival due to an apparent leak, despite many people clearly still staying at The Lion. Alternative hotel was close by but basic budget hotel.

Accommodation was roomy and comfortable. Staff were very pleasant and breakfast was good quality and choice

Typical 3 star hotel - rooms not visited by staff during stay, bar only open in evening, no BT sport as advertised on website. Otherwise - fairly basic but comfortable nevertheless. Gwenda was most efficient in arranging for bookings some 2.5 hrs early on the Sunday to allow our party to settle in and make the trip to Porthmadog in time to have lunch and then tee off at 2.10. Good thing I rang the hotel as the room allocation was originally somewhat random !

The highlight of this visit was the Service. Excellent staff. Not too much to do in Criccieth itself. I wonder if Porthmadog would have been better.

A basic hotel with adequate rooms, which could do with some upgrade work. However, the staff could not have been more helpful and cooperative and this is the reason for the 4* overall rating. We eat once in the hotel and the food quality was good, along the lines of good pub food. The location in Criccieth is very central, however Criccieth itself has very limited options for food or drinking.

Hotel and staff excellent, nothing was too much trouble. Would recommend as a base for golfing holidays in this area.

Served all our requirements - never provided fresh towels etc thought that was poor - checked in friday - out sunday morning. Very accommodatiing - bar shut 11.30 sharp - a blessing as We were golfing - Breakfast great!

The Lion hotel is comfortable and run like clock work. Highly recommend

For a group of golfers away from home the hotel was excellent, good rooms and bars, Staff were superb, especially the waitress at breakfast, fantastic customer service. Curry house next door is recommended too.

Excellent hotel in lovely Welsh town. The Rooms are very modern, spotlessly clean and comfortable. Food in the bar was great value and very tasty. Breakfast in the morning was fresh and tasty. Overall a lovely stay and would certainly return.

Fantastic trip to North Wales. Played Royal St David’s, difficult course but stunning links golf, followed by Nefyn & District, the point was spectacular and Course was in great condition, an experience not to be missed. The final day was at Porthmadog and again the course was in good shape with the greens in excellent condition A contrast of heathland/Parkland on the front 9 followed by good links golf on the back 9. All the clubs were very welcoming from the pro shops to the clubhouse and the Lion Hotel in Cricceith was friendly, helpful and perfectly situated for the stay. The weather was perfect, sunshine ☀️ and gentle breeze throughout, this topped off a fantastic North Wales Golfing experience. Thank you Jack at your golf travel for organising and booking the great weather to go with the amazing golf.

A clean, tidy and friendly hotel a short walk from the town. Insufficient car parking for all guests so roadside parking was required.

Handy location for the courses we visited. Room compact but satisfactory, breakfast ok.

Very clean, comfortable rooms. Very friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast excellent, reasonably priced and good quality Bar Food. Location great for golfing holiday, central to accessing local courses. Would definitely stay there again and recommend to others.
