This wonderful golf course has been sympathetically built into a protected wildlife area, where many rare bird species make their home. Salgados has a tremendous variety of holes, ensuring that it is an intriguing test for golfers of all abilities.
The layout has, in fact, a distinct links feel to it, but it features an intricate network of lakes and streams. Along with the 13th, the signature hole is arguably the first, where there is no easy opening - golfers must thread the ball onto a fairway bordered on both sides by threatening water features.
Signature hole: Hole 1, par 4
The signature hole is arguably the first, where there is no easy opening - golfers must thread the ball onto a fairway bordered on both sides by threatening water features. In addition to this, the beautiful par 5 6th hole is said to be on of the hardest holes in the game of golf with plenty of water lining the fairways and when the wind is blowing it can play very long.

A beautiful location with a modern clubhouse. The course is flat with lots of pine trees and water on most holes. The fairways and greens were immaculate. Our tee time was delayed due to overbooking and the pace of play once we did get underway was glacial. We ended up abandoning our round after 9 holes (nearly 3 hours) once it became clear we would not be able to finish before it got dark. My request for a refund fell on deaf ears.

The toughest of the 3 courses we played on our trip, make sure you have plenty of balls as there's lots of water. The start of the round was a little bit slow as the course seemed to be very busy but this seemed sort itself out after about 6 or 7 holes. The greens were in great condition, any missed puts were due to the player not the course. We would all definitely play this course again.

This course is absolutely unbelievable, extremely challenging for the average golfer fairways are really tight and plenty of water and sand come into play if you are not straight off the ball. the greens are super fast, the clubhouse is really nice with a huge selection of clothing and golf accessories. I am only an average golfer but the experience to play on this course was unbelievable

Course was a bit wet so no buggies permitted, and wild and windy conditions made it very difficult. There were also a lot of ground staff doing work around the 10th/11th holes that didn’t seem to have any awareness of players around them. Despite this, the course was in pretty good condition considering the wild weather. A bit slow at points with groups in front but all in all a good day. Would definitely play again in hopefully better weather!

Couse closed to carts so had to use trolleys instead. One of our party had a bad leg and required an e-trolley. This cost an extra 20 Euros, which had to be paid at hotel reception. There were not enough e-trolleys to go round. Bit of a shambles getting clubs and trolleys. Flat course so doesn't need a buggy.
James
✓14 Mar 2025
In our mind that course should be been closed that day as it was very very buggy you’re walking around you might as well have wellies on because your golf shoes are just getting trashed with the amount of work they were doing and still doing on the course, especially on the second hole They had to stop work and hide behind buggies whilst we were playing on the course and left equipment in the fairway and once again we weren’t allowed buggies so that wasn’t an issue. We walked it with the trolleys but still it was hard work going through puddles specially when you’re driving and it hits the ground and there’s just bugs straight down.

Fantastic set up. Superb clubhouse spotlessly clean very nice staff. Course layout is excellent and very challenging with lots of water. Greens were decent but definitely showed signs of such heavy traffic as do the fairways which to be honest weren't great but probably quite indicative of Spain and Portugal. Overall excellent value for money as we paid for an additional game on our off day which we got a great discount as staying within the Nau hotel group Would definitely return

We loved Salgados. Every hole was an adventure. We started at the 10th so our front 9 was probably more open and the back 9 a bit tighter. Some very memorable holes. The water on every hole was great and challenging but it was still playable for all and very enjoyable. Clubhouse was really nice. Practice and warm up facilities were great too - short game area and putting green. Will definitely be back. Would highly recommend- Loved it

The greens were excellent as were the tees. The course is great for people that don't like hills, but not so great for people who don't like water! There are lakes everywhere, so you may need to pack a few extra balls. Many holes did not leave much margin for error. You had to really plan your way around. Even a dead straight drive off the tee could run out of fairway on the bend and you'll finish in a lake. So accurate hitting and good course management/club selection is vital. It had some good practice facilities at the front of the clubhouse from what I saw (no time to use them sadly). The clubhouse itself is very nice. There are plenty of buggies and pull trolleys to hire. Sadly I am reviewing based on the first 12 holes as we were forced off the course due to a massive thunderstorm when we played (as was everybody else that day, nobody we spoke to finished their round) but from what I saw, it is a lovely course and I would recommend it. I've given 4 stars for value for money as we had a package deal (so no round fee breakdown), but from my research it seems it is quite an expensive course to play.

Turned up for a 12-48 tee off 8 players booked 6 months ago and no tee time available! The day before was washed out so they let loads of people on with vouchers A very stressful time for me the organiser We were squeezed in at 1-15 Even then asked to split into 2x4 balls teeing off at the first and 10th at the same time Awful customer service

Great track, expect to lose balls on the water. We had great fun here. Very tight so you have to plot your way around so being a big hitter doesn’t always help here. Beautiful setting and a great modern clubhouse. No driving but they have a net with 4 bays. Right next to our hotel Vidmar Resort so we walked there. They didn’t have our tee time booking which I was told was reserved. So they had to squeeze us out 30 mins earlier which was a bit of a rush. Luckily we were only a 4 ball and not a larger group. Amazing course again and would definitely come back.

Good course, only hiccup was the hotel book a different course that the booking? It was resolved by the course staff and we managed to get slotted in, it was the slowest game I have ever played. I think it is an observation from all courses as they pack the tee times in every few minutes which holds up play.

Lovely clubhouse, great bar facilities, pro shop was a bit sparse when it came to buying balls/perhaps getting a souvenir polo shirt from the course etc. Course was in good Nick however greens a bit bobbly and plenty of un-repaired pitch marks. Course was a good challenge with plenty of water and trees to make it something worth playing. Overall a really good course with some minor setbacks. Oh, finally, plenty slow players, no real tracking of time spent on course by some groups, our 2 ball took well over 4 hours because of group in-front who did not offer us to play through until the 16th, slight dampener on one of our rounds.

Course was OK but massively overbooked, tee times were a bit of a free for all.. I felt sorry for the starter as he didn't really know what to do, at one point there were about 8 tees trying to get out at the same time, both on the 1st and 10th I found the bar and shop staff to be quite rude, this may be because they were extremely busy to be fair but even still, the way some of the golfers were being treated and spoken to in the bar was poor.

This course needs to be plotted around a little bit as there is a lot of water in play . This course was extremely busy and felt jammed to capacity as we were told we had 2 hours to complete the first 9 holes , if we didn't achieve this time scale we may have had to return later to complete our round . This was a little annoying as the course was as I said totally jammed . We thankfully had buggies on this round which helped to keeps us up with groups in front and we had some good banter with the groups who also stayed at Palm village when waiting near tee boxes . We did make the deadline by 5 minutes and carried on with our round with only a minor issue with a group behind almost hitting our 4 ball a few times trying to push through us when we had nowhere to go. It was all sorted out in the end but wasn't a nice experience. We saw the refreshment buggy alot on this course and it was a welcome sight everytime. We had a 9.32 tee time and the fairways were wet and soft so not much run until later in the round . The bunkers could of done with a little more sand in places and a couple were flooded , the greens were gorgeous quality and nicely paced . Really like this course and it's proximity to the resort suited us for the ease of our second round giving us time to relax by the pool in the afternoon. Would play again for sure but hopefully it isn't under those time pressures on the next visit .

✓26 Apr 2023
Overall the course was good and nice layout with plenty of holes that were challenging. There are only nets for a practice area and you are all hitting into the same big net so its not ideal. They have chipping greens and putting only which are really nice. Tees on the course were in poor condition. Greens were fast and rolled really well. Fairways were in good condition although water logged to the point of having to move your ball in some areas on the fairway. Staff food truck drivers very noisy and continue to drive past despite people trying to play. They don't have the courtesy to stop and the truck was super noisy.

A very flat course where the danger lies in the abundance of water! It was very busy and we were asked to split into a 3 ball and 2 ball with a random couple joining the 2 ball party. Not what we wanted as this was a joint birthday weekend where we were looking to share precious time together. It should be reinforced to book buggies well in advance too. There were none available to book once in country. Lack of a driving range (4 Lane high nets) was a bit of a miss but the pitching and putting practice areas were good. The 19th was a pleasant environment. All that said, an enjoyable course that was in very good condition and the very warm weather added to the joy of golfing in Portugal in October.

This course is attached to the hotel complex but is still a good walk with clubs so make sure you take your bag strap as there is no transport from the complex. It seemed to us they were cramming as many on the course as they possibly could. It was absolutely rammed which made getting any rythmn going impossible. Everyone was waiting for everyone and because there is so much water people were taking 2 off the tee if they put the first one in ( and a lot were doing this especially our group ! ) The Fairways were better than the Morgado and Alamos but they had the same problems with the greens. The upside was it only took us 10 mins to get back to the hotel complex instead of the 90 mins wait at the other 2😁

Superb course on a flat piece of land so easy to walk. Very tight holes but with some course management it’s ok for a high handicap golfer. Every hole had water in play or OOB..😂😂 The group behind lost 30 balls between them in 6 holes and walked off after 9 holes but they were laughing about it.. Again if you played sensibly and didn’t hit driver consistently it was playable.

Really nicely set up course, with absolutely loads of water on virtually every hole. Good challenge and overall welcoming and well set up course, would definitely paly again even though I lost 6 balls!!

Loved this course despite the abundance of water. Again busy but marshalls kept play moving along. Length of some holes challenging for ladies, but overall a most enjoyable round.

This was by far the best golf course we played! Water coming into play on 17 of the 18 holes (lost at least 4 balls) stunning setting and in fantastic condition! If your going to play golf in Portugal I highly recommend you play Salgados!!

Excellent course. Well maintained and very picturesque. Plenty of water so accuracy was the name of the game.

Course was good with challenging holes, especially in the wind...note, it was windy for all of our early tee times. Members told me its always windy early morning. I will be playing there again. Our rounds were slow, more due to the fact that we were a 2 and 3 ball....probably.

Best of the 3 we thought. Lots of water so quite tricky but good fun and and again nice and green and greens in good condition. Same group as alamos (Nau) and so different which is strange to me.

When we played it was very windy. Quite common apparently as it’s near the coast and it has plenty of water hazards. So be prepared to lose some golf balls!

Course was in poor condition and the greens were terrible and undergoing major remedial work meaning it was like putting on a beach!! Course was also extremely slow a 5 hour round with far to many people being on course at one time

The course was generally in good condition. Though the greens had been hollow tined and sanded last week, they played fast and true. Lots of water!

Love this course... the only thing I don't love is that we have a fight every time to be able to go round as a pair rather than having to join up with people we don't know to make a foursome. But still keep coming back and will continue to do so.

This was the first time I played the course. The water was the big challenge. However I came second and only put two balls in the water. I think for our party it is too demanding. But I enjoyed the experience. The transfer form Salgados back to the hotel was 25 mins late.

✓26 May 2019
Course was very challenging, although still enjoyable. You need to be straight and manage the course or you'll need a lot of golf balls. We flowed well the first day but had a group of two four balls in front who must of thought they were playing the Masters and were really slow (not the courses fault)although perhaps more can be done to encourage groups to keep up with this in front. Overall a great time.

✓26 May 2019
We found the course very difficult especially starting from the tenth tee which gave us the most difficult holes first. The course marshall was very annoying telling us to speed up. We finished in three hours fifty mins which is less than the target time. He upset everyone for no reason

Lovely course probably my favourite, lots of water and very pretty. Was challenging but as long as you were straight could reach most in regulation.

Lovely course great and helpful staff would recommend to anyone take some golf balls though as you will lose a few but no complaints at all. well run club house friendly staff in the golf shop who were very polite helpful and not rude and ignorant like at the morgado the previous day thank you salgados golf course a great day was had by us all

✓1 May 2019
Course was great, greens were immaculate, very fast. Lots of water around the course, which makes this course quite difficult. You need to be a straight hitter on a lot of the holes, especially the 6th! Took us around 5.5 hours to get round which was pretty slow, but you can't expect much more when the course is full. Couldn't complain about any of it.

This course is more of a "fun" course than a serious golfer's course. With some very tight holes, water everywhere and a strong wind blowing from the Atlantic it's difficult not to lose golf balls. The course was in good condition though and both of our rounds were enjoyable. Definitely a course to play on a golfing trip!

A nice layout with good greens and plenty of grass. Watch out for the big irritable goose on the first tee ! The downsides for this course is that there is a lot of water on this course (not good for high handicappers)and is rather flat.

How much water... Nearly every hole water comes into play, coupled with a very strong wind made it a heck of challenging day's golf. The course layout is very interesting and despite it being flat you don't get bored due to the excellent course design. The course was busy but it was rarely dangerous with stray balls due to the layout.

A much better course than the Morgado and Alamos. This was partly because the grass was not Bermuda and had not browned, but also because the holes were more interesting and more challenging.

✓14 Oct 2018
This course is the busy of the 3 and due to the volume of players can take 30-45 mins longer to play . This is partly due to the difficulty ,a few holes with water and more rough ,Bermuda grass around the greens ,difficult to chip out of and sometimes difficult to find your balls.Greens are in good condition and a challenge to read .my favourite course out of the 3.
Richard
✓14 Oct 2018
A great test of golf . I’ve rated it as HARD ‼️Mainly because of the amount of water all over the course . If you have a wide ‘slice’ or ‘hook’ you will be in trouble ( usually wet ) . But the Fairways are wide and a score is attainable for any handicap golfer . Again , good Fairways , Greens and bunkers .

Having been appraised of a potential buggy availability problem (refer Morgado review),this dilemma was resolved through the kind intervention of the Salgados Dunas Suites reception staff. However, on arrival at the course , I noted that other groups were not so lucky and were faced with walking the course on a very warm day. Otherwise the course was enjoyable and met with expectations .

Interesting course not as easy as it looked with some tight holes. There were tricky areas where water would play a part of your game. I would say it was the harder of the three courses.

First day back to work unfortunately after a fantastic break at Salgados. Firstly the golf course was in great condition considering the amount of rain that had fell the previous week, and was very challenging with water hazards at 17 of the 18 holes, which I found a lot of fun to tackle but some of my playing partners found next to impossible to get the better of.
