Spanning the resort’s rich valley land, the O’Connor Jnr Course is the perfect complement to Nick Faldo’s more undulating creation. The great Christy was well aware of the natural Algarve terrain, and deliberately carved his course to take full advantage of indigenous features, particularly the stunning orange groves.

The Amendoeira O’Connor Jnr Course is a part of the famous Amendoeira Resort, found in the heart of the Algarve, the O’Connor can be matched up with other epic local courses to create a golf break to remember.

Oceanico O'Connor Course

The undisputed highlight of the O’Connor Course is the designer’s take on Augusta National’s ‘Amen Corner’ – holes 7, 8 and 9 are skirted at various points by a great lake which snakes its way dangerously through three splendid holes.

Skirted by traditional Moorish buildings, dating back to the 13th century, the course’s location is steeped in history, which only adds to the drama. O’Connor’s mighty layout builds nicely to a climax with the phenomenal closing hole, which climbs to a fantastic riverside green.

Like the neighbouring Faldo Course, the O’Connor is an exciting new development that only makes the glorious Algarve more attractive for visiting golfers, providing a first class championship test in truly stunning surroundings.

Signature Hole:  Hole 3, Par 3, 178 yards, SI 15

O’Connor’s signature hole is the 3rd, a gorgeous Par 3 where players must avoid a waterway which encroaches upon the fairway from the right. With natural wildlife stirring in the background, you must navigate across an undulating green, albeit on a true putting surface so typical of the course's greens throughout the year.

Oceanico O'Connor Course is ranked as one of the best courses in Portugal

The O’Connor Course provides a good alternative to the Faldo Course, offering a slightly more forgiving round while still presenting plenty of challenges. Water comes into play on several holes, adding both difficulty and visual appeal, and overall it is a very attractive course to play. There were some areas where the fairways had been scorched, but not to the extent that it significantly impacted play. It was clear that maintenance work is ongoing throughout the course, with greenkeeping staff visible during our rounds, which was encouraging to see. The tee boxes were uneven in places and the greens showed signs of wear on a handful of holes, but neither issue was severe enough to detract from the overall experience. The course remains enjoyable and in generally good condition. One area that did raise concern was the wooden bridge leading to the 4th green. The structure feels dated, with several slats appearing loose and unstable, giving the impression that it is overdue for repair or replacement. There is no halfway house on the course, leaving players reliant on the drinks cart for refreshments. While the service is appreciated, the pricing is excessive. Four beers and a couple of bottles of water came to almost €50, which felt difficult to justify. Overall, the O’Connor Course is an enjoyable and scenic layout that offers a welcome contrast to the more demanding Faldo Course. While there are some maintenance and value-for-money issues that could be addressed, the quality of the course itself makes it well worth playing.

Course was great. Difficult but great. Pace of place wasn’t good at all. Nearly a 6 hour round

Different from the Faldo course. Need to plot your way around the course as you’ll be punished for wayward drives (as I was ! ). Great course and very different to the Faldo.

The O'Connor Jr course is a nice flat course in the bottom of the valley. Very large greens and quick.

Great course with some tricky tee shots and greens. Nice lay out and plenty of bunkers to knock a few shots of your score..
