Kingsbarns Golf Links

Golf has been played on this land since 1793 but in 1939 had to be turned to farm land to help with the war effort. Toward the end of the millennium, world-renowned course architect Kyle Phillips was given the job of bringing back the golfing charm of the property. It is safe to say that he brought magic back into the land and created an absolute masterpiece.

At 7,224 yards and a par of 72, Kingsbarns Golf Links is a fair and very playable test of golf for players of all abilities. There is space for slightly mishit drives whilst wild misses will be punished as they should be. The fairways and green complexes are as generous as they are inviting. Every single hole has something special about it. Whether it be a special view or an architectural feature like the ‘butterfly’ green on 18, the course has plenty of gems for your camera roll and memory bank.

Picking a particular hole as a highlight is next to impossible, however, one that will stay with you is the par three 15th hole. At 212 yards from the back tees, this hole is not short, but when you arrive at the tee you will be in awe of the view. With the coast protecting the right and a solitary bunker protecting the left side of the colossal 54 yard long green, be sure to get the correct club. This truly is one of the world’s greatest par threes. One of the main standouts of the experience at Kingsbarns, a factor that cannot go unmentioned, is the welcome you will receive from the staff. When you visit here you feel like you are home. The staff have an incredible knack of chatting like a long lost friend whilst knowing what you need even before you do.

Playing at Kingsbarns Golf Links is a special experience and one to cherish. From the moment you arrive until the time you leave, every detail of your trip here will be magical. For any golf aficionado, Kingsbarns is an absolute must-play when on a tour of St Andrews.

Facilities

The clubhouse at Kingsbarns is a real treat. Packed with traditional furnishings and decor but with modern twists, you have to make some time to enjoy building. The menu in the bar is exactly what you need after a game, no-fuss high quality food and some of the local Kingsbarns whiskies to wash it down.

The changing rooms are kitted-out in dark wood, soft leather seats and great views of the surrounding coastline. Getting ready for your round knowing that many of golf’s biggest names have been in there doing the same thing is special. When you are ready to go, be sure to make time for the range and putting green. The practice facilities definitely match the quality of the course. It is also worth spending some time in the practice bunker, especially for those that don’t have much experience of the deep riveted-faced links bunkers.

The pro shop has a great array of crested merchandise for you to buy as a souvenir or so your friends know you have played the famous course. Here you can also hire carts or, for the full experience, a caddy. You will also find a wonderful little halfway house during your round to give you what you need to fuel some back-nine birdies.
