Keeping the ball in play will pay dividends and make sure you aren’t losing shots as well as balls. Many famous names have pounded the fairways in search of the chance to compete for the Claret Jug, including Darren Clarke, Justin Leonard, Bernhard Langer, Payne Stewart, Sam Torrance and Ian Woosnam. Inside the clubhouse is a plaque recognising the exhibition match played between Jack Nicklaus and Seve Ballesteros, both of whom are now honorary members.

The course itself places a premium on straight hitting; accurate drivers will glean birdie chances, but there is no mercy for the wayward. This is a beautiful golf course, cutting through the towering Scots pines and with a recent bunker renovation program this should not be omitted from a golfing tour in Fife.
