One of the jewels in The Costa del Sol's golfing crown, San Roque Old Course often tops the lists for must-plays in Spain. The Old Course is one of the most challenging in Sotogrande with the original design by Dave Thomas being heralded among professionals and amateurs alike.
Framed by rolling hills and established cork trees, The Old Course is truly unique golfing experience. Expect course management to be tested with plenty of bunkers in play and greens are smaller than you'd see at other courses.
Memorable holes include the 17th that is a great par-5 that meanders through cork trees with an elevated green surrounded by bunkers. Reachable in two but one that can easily ruin a round.
As a previous host of European Tour Qualifying School as well as The Spanish Open, golfers playing The Old Course at San Roque are ticking off one of the very best in Spain and Europe that golfers return to year-after-year.

San Roque's Old Course was officially unveiled in 1990, and was designed by the legendary Dave Thomas, the man responsible for so many terrific projects at home and abroad. Following revision work on the bunkering by Seve Ballesteros, the Old Course hosted the European Tour's finest professionals for the 2005 Spanish Open.
The course is an exacting proposition, whose tight, sloping fairways wind through the cork trees that make the estate so famous, affording incredible views of the surrounding mountains. The inward half is the more spectacular, traversing the rolling hills and demanding brave carries over the cavernous gullies. The closing holes take in the shimmering lakes at the centre of the resort, presenting a finish as beautiful as it is challenging.
With an internationally renowned golf academy and two of the region's finest championship course, visiting the San Roque Club is an essential component of any good golfing holiday in Southern Spain.

A perfect set up from the time we arrived until our pick up from the bar. A good course in good condition, good greens and very well organised.

A gem that will last the test of time and a touch of class about everything they do there.

The best of the three we played in the view of just about all of us. The extra touches from the staff - free fruit, slushie, etc just about put it on top. I had a nightmare as trapped a nerve in my elbow approaching the first tee and couldn't play more than a couple of holes, but I stayed in the buggy and can confirm it was a cracking course. They were all superb to be honest, but if I could give more than five stars, this one would get them.

Went in 2024 for first time in 10 years and it was exactly, this year exceptional!! Lots of changes to the course all for the better and to help make it a playable but difficult course. Lots of raised greens so don’t come up short or it’s 20 yards back down the fairway. Staff all very friendly and helpful and help add lots of extra little touches, cold drink and ice towels between 9 & 10 and the chilly bottle on the 1st tee are all very welcome. San Roque is now my No 1 course in Spain and I’ve played a few there, and I’m sure they will keep improving if that’s possible. Our in group challenge was to find something wrong even a blade of grass out of place, we didn’t!!

I've given this an average rating for difficulty, but that's probably because I played Valderrama the day before and after that anything would be easier. Facilities and staff superb, real 'member's club' feel about it without being snobby. Played the front nine with a member which helped. Receptive, decent speed greens and very good food in the clubhouse afterwards with my new Dutch friends.

Nice course . I wish the chipping area had real grass , not mats . The tee times were a little too close together ( 10 minutes apart vs 12-15 at the other courses we played ) staff was very nice

We got ‘paired up’ with a great bloke from California. Weather and course we’re great. Ice and water in the buggy cooler, they gave us a merch water bottle each. Also a superb lemon sorbet on 10th(it was 30 degrees)

Very busy Saturday with I’m guessing mainly members playing so quite slow. Heavily sanded tees but rest of course in very good condition. Lively terrace area for a post round drink which was very enjoyable. Staff helpful.

A great course which gives you a decent chance to score if you stay on the fairways and avoid 3/4 putting!!The staff are brilliant- -cannot do enough for you.

They are doing a lot of building work around the clubhouse and first couple of holes which left us concerned that this course might be a bit of a let down. However once we got away from the building works it was well up to the standard of the other 3 courses. Again great use of terrain.

The best course we played all week. Teeing areas well maintained and course well manicured. Easy walking course. Good views , well defined penalty areas and smooth greens. Should hurry to play this course as it will be members only soon. I would return to play this course. The difference in condition between this course and the New course is bizarre unless you consider that members do not play it and therefore it gets less attention. Lots of members only areas within the bar, restaurant and patio facilities. Good practice facilities.

We got the impression that it was very much a members course, with visitors tolerated rather encouraged and welcomed. We played later in the day and the greens were a little ‘scratchy’
