The Royal Obidos golf course was designed by the late great Spaniard Seve Ballesteros whose previous projects include the stunning Alhaurin and Quinta do Vale. Measuring 7,318 yards from the back tees, this course is set to test even the most talented golfers but like any good resort course a number of tee positions make the course accessible to a great variety of golfers.
The sumptuous clubhouse features a restaurant, spike bar and a well stocked pro shop and is ideally located overlooking no fewer than 9 of the 18 holes. Sitting out on the generous terrace, golfers can enjoy a cool glass of beer after a round while looking out over the spectacular golf course, the cascading lakes and streams and the Atlantic Ocean. If you tee off in the later afternoon be sure to stick around for majestic sunsets that are common to the region.
Signature Hole: Hole 2, Par 5, 503 metres (550 yards) (White Tees), SI 3
This glorious hole has Seve’s signature all over it. The hole is played from a spectacular elevated tee within the woods and overlooks a fairly narrow fairway, guarded both by water on the left, and ‘S’ shaped bunkering (for Seve) on the right. However, although this hole may be pleasing on the eye, it also has the potential to make you never want to look at your scorecard again! While the cautious player may choose to lay up before the lake, the more aggressive player may attempt to drive the ball over the lake, leaving for a choice as to whether to attack the green. A fantastic hole, with the ability to wreck your round before it’s even got going.
